Avatar m tn She recovered completely but since some years ago she developed a chronic migraine. Of course we went to a lot of neurologists, made tomographies, magnetic resonances, etc. etc. and everything looks ok. Currently she takes 75 mg of Topamax (topiramate) in the morning and 75 mg more at night. Additionally, she takes 1 or 2 Acetaminophen (650 mg) daily and when the pain is very strong she takes 1 Maxalt (Rizatriptan) 10 mg.

Avatar m tn I would also suggest you to try magnesium supplements for migraine prophylaxis. Magnesium is known to prevent migraine attacks in chronic migraineurs. Meanwhile OTC pain killers will provide you relief from pain. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Hi!!! I posted a question asking if zomig knocked other people out.... or if anyone found any sort of knock-out side-effects with triptans... I totally feel out of it after I take my triptans... it takes the pain away... but I am out of it... tired... fatigued... and even confused sometimes for hours after the migraine... sometimes for the rest of the day!!!
Avatar n tn My headache went 100% away. I also started cytoxan chemotherapy. I take Calan 240 mgs for migraine prevention and Amerge for a migraine. This Saturday the headache came back. It hurts, throbs, I can't do anything and am very nauseated. What are my other options to take if the Amerge doesn't help? Thanks.
Avatar f tn If conclusively you have all other problems ruled out and your migraines are triggered by reading and near vision, I would see a quality OPTOMETRIST and be check for a need for glasses for near/computer work and/or prism glasses for convergence insuffiency. Most ophthalmologist lack the patience to this type of testing.
Avatar n tn If you experience severe headaches and other symptoms like mood changes, muscle /joint pain or painful swallowing or peeling skin, it is best that you inform your doctor for proper management. Also when prescription medicine for migraine is not providing relief. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn These include ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or aspirin to help relieve mild migraines and combinations of acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine specifically meant for moderate migraine attacks (Excedrin Migraine). The drugs of choice however are triptans such as Sumatriptan, rizatriptan, naratriptan, zolmitriptan, almotriptan, frovatriptan and eletriptan. You may need to try which of these medications works best for you, in consultation with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have a history of horrible migraines since my early teens and they just recently began. It's been exactly a week since I've had this particular migraine and since tylenol is the only safe thing I can take, I am in agony!! I'm used to taking excedrin and rizatriptan but neither of those are safe for the baby. I've tried sleeping, cold rags on my neck and forehead, head rubs, everything! And I just can't get rid of if! I'm to the point where I want to go to the e.
Avatar n tn He did mention vestibular migraine which would link in with my history of migraine, but I just wondered if it was possible that vestibular migraine would just affect one ear and whether it would cause constant tinnitus. I don't really understand how vestibular migraine works because I seem to have constant symptoms. I had an MRI scan three years ago looking for an acoustic neuroma but it was clear.
Avatar f tn Maxalt contains the active ingredient rizatriptan which is indicated to relieve migraine attacks. Possible side effects of this medication include dizziness, sleepiness. feeling weak or fatigued, pins and needles or tingling sensations, flushing, palpitations and even headache. I agree with you that finding the right medicine may take a while and benefits usually outweigh the risks. Take care and do keep us posted with the MRI results. Best regards.
Avatar f tn Migraine is much more than just pain, so taking pain killer for migraine is only treating one part of the migraine and not actually stopping the migraine... which is why so often the pain killers don't even touch the pain or the pain will return. If you are having migraines, you should really be treating them with proper migraine medications. Examples of triptans are: Almotriptan (axert), Rizatriptan (maxalt), Zolmitriptan (zomig nasal spray...
Avatar m tn I have been dealing with a lot of head pain and scary symptoms for the past month and have been going to doctors who just cant find anything wrong. Today i was cleaning out my closet when i found a jar of spoiled old ranch potato chip dip! I must have forgot it in a bag and the jar lid was open with black stuff leaking out. Inside the jar it was all black and looked like mold or something. I was wondering if that could be the cause of my problems!?
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
Avatar f tn I also suffer from migraines and take a combo of Topamax and Rizatriptan. These meds do not take away the entire migraine but make it manageable for me. I think the extra strong coffee helps too.
Avatar m tn I stayed in the hospital for a week and the doctor diagnosed me with migraines because during the stay I had headaches the whole time. Since then my headaches got worse and worse and now I'm to the point that I cannot even attend spring semester at my college. I went to a neurologist and they prescribed me Nortriptyline, Methylprednisolone, and Rizatriptan. Since I have taken these medications I have gained a little relief however, it all just came back after a week.
1103688 tn?1257894552 Another possibility is a class of medication called the Ergot alkaloids, which were the first line of acute treatment for migraine headache prior to the invention of triptans. A famous migraine medication in the class of medication is called "Cafergot". Cafergot may be an option for you, it contains ergotamine tartrate and caffeine.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with graves disease in 2005 and was treated with radioactive iodine. This has given me an underactive thyroid for which I take 150mcg thyroxine daily. I had an eye test in Oct 2007 and was told I had a slight deterioration but my prescription did not need changing. I purchased new glasses on the 10th May 2008 and on the 6th June 2008 went to my GP complaining of a headache for 3 weeks. It has never gone away.
Avatar f tn My husband ended up in the hospital taking Topamax with pancreatitis and nearly died. They don't warn people enough about this drug. I took it for 'complicated migraine' and had a metallic taste and felt like I was in a fog. My complicated migraines (2 of them in my lifetime) were accompanied by 8 hours of amnesia, vomiting and severe pain. My first neurologist didn't call it that, he thought it might be due to stress.
Avatar f tn By way of background I have chronic daily headaches as well as migraines with aura, and have had those since I was 14 (I’m 32 now). I take rizatriptan for the migraines and Tylenol and ibuprofen for the daily headache.
