Avatar f tn She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP! I am tired of getting beat up, and I especially feel very bad for her because she cannot communicate with me how she is feeling. I feel like maybe we should go back to the risperidone even though she gains weight and even though she was still aggressive. It wasn't as bad as it is now.
952564 tn?1268368647 I don't like all this talk about weight gain. As I said I am already 50 lbs over weight. It is very hard on my self esteem, which only adds to my depression. My weight problem is one of my triggers, (both ways,) when I am feeling bad about myself. I have been proud of myself recently I've been losing about 1 llb a week. I am supposed to take a low dose, I think 1 mg. I am actaully pretty scared of meds.

Avatar n tn m TERRIFIED of weight gain. I am 2 years totally free of my eating disorder. Anyone not gain weight on this drug?
Avatar m tn Would not know exact specifics but the potential of weight gain will always be there with the current generation of antipsychotics. I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.

Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My husband has been taking Risperdal for about 3 months now and he is complaining about weight gain. Indeed he gained some weight, but he is so thin that it's hard to notice. For now I'm trying to keep our healthy diet as it has always been and keep telling him to do some exercise, I do Yoga and Biking...
Avatar n tn The weight gain is most probably due to risperidone and even if your son is diagnosed with diabetes it won't go away. Losing wieght while insulin dependent is hard, but it can be done. You could try letting him drink sugar-free drinks and eating low carbohydrate foods like raw veggies and fruits, instead of battling over foods. Take him to his doctor and stay on the Risperidal-risperidone. Have him tested for diabetes.
1985196 tn?1402190098 wow , that's some medication , over the last 10 years i've been on quiet a lot too but for the first 5 year's or so it was mainly anti-depressants and the odd anti psychotic , but they had no odea what they were treating back then, it's only been the last few years i got diagnosed properly ,but they are still not 100% sure about the Bi polar / with psychotic features or Schizoaffective , which is what they call it for now , i don't think there's a whole lot of difference
Avatar n tn We were just prescribed this for my son who is 8. He spent the last 3 years fighting outbursts which included throwing things, hitting others, screaming, crying, and not being able to cope with things he didnt like the answer to. He started Trileptal in August and we saw huge improvement. but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal.
574118 tn?1305135284 re worried about weight gain, the AAPs are actually usually the worst offenders, although some people never gain weight on them. Depakote is the only anticonvulsant that really tends to cause weight gain. The others are weight neutral or even might make you lose weight. Abilify is generally weight neutral, by the way. At the 75 mg dose, I think the Seroquel is no longer doing its antidepressant job, and it may be making you more sedated because of the antihistamine effect at low doses.
Avatar n tn I tell you what, there's no way in hell that the crap in risperdal / risperidone left my body in 5 days! It took about 8 months of hardcore cardio exercise for me to purge this poison from my system. I would sweat so much after I tapered off of this, and it would smell like putrid chemicals, and definitely not something that would ever come from a human being.. Please NEVER take this stuff unless you want to be chemically lobotomized..
603015 tn?1329862973 She is under weight so the docs are not concerned about the weight gain, in fact that would be a good thing.
574118 tn?1305135284 When I said "it never happens overnight" I was refering to diabetes. Keep your weight at a stable level and sugar intake down and it will be fine. It always starts with weight gain so don't let that happen. Get a blood test once a year but that's advisable for anyone, on any medication as part of a yearly check up. As for cataracts, that's a rarity. As I said I saw an opthamologist and he checked me out once a year I believe under FDA mandate.
Avatar f tn he is adhd so we ( a few doctors) have tryed most of the adhd medications and the risperidone was added b/c he developed a tic studdering as i said before 1st his dr sent him to a neurologist and when all that came back all clear they (the team of drs, my sons dr works with) came up with the risperidone. but since then i've seen the weight gain. he plays all sports.
Avatar f tn You might consider using an expert for your question. There is an expert forum that might answer --- this forum is the community forum for patients needing support --- or you could pose your question to an expert in person. The thing to do is to find one. I would try a major medical center such as Mayo or cleveland. Cleveland at some time or another had an online interface. Or maybe you could inquire by phone?
Avatar n tn my dog ate unknown amount of risperidone what will happen to him i dont got no money or any one to gert to a vet at all the whole week
1892195 tn?1321258278 i am an 18 year old female prescribed wellbutrin 300 mg, lexapro 30 mg, vyvanse 30 mg, risperidone .25 mg and formula 303 muscle relaxants. i've been on these medications for quite some time and i don't think they have anything to do with my symptoms, but i just wanted to give a short background. over the past couple of weeks, i've been experiencing very odd sensations.
Avatar f tn On a more personal note, after years on this forum, I do not like the use of Risperidone except in extreme cases. It has many side effects and there are other meds that can work as well. Do take a look at the many side effects of Risperidone. I do not know your daughters age, but it is not recommended below certain age levels. Hopefully this is a psychiatrist that prescribed this med. and not a general md? If you have any more questions please post.
Avatar n tn i know risperidone and seroquel do cause "rapid" weight gain, as my brother takes both for schizophrenia. he is actually up 80-90 lbs now. i was on seroquel for about a month and did see a noticeable difference in my weight going up. i stopped taking it for other reason other then the weight part but i am now on latuda which seem to be helping me loose weight without really trying. everything i've read about the weight gain though is that there is really no official reason for it.
Avatar f tn i have been trying to gain yes gain weight. i eat a lot but i also work in a fast pace job(moveing) so what can i do to gain weight?
