risperidone uses and side effects

Since then we found out that Risperidone is know for side effects such as tardive dyskinesia. We are seriously concerned now. Will this be permanent ? What is the best way to examine this problem ? Thanks for any suggestions !

It has many side effects and there are other meds that can work as well. Do take a look at the many side effects of Risperidone. I do not know your daughters age, but it is not recommended below certain age levels. Hopefully this is a psychiatrist that prescribed this med. and not a general md? If you have any more questions please post.

I was on Seroquel and Risperidone and it caused me nightmares to the point where I would wake up from my own screams (or crying) and I couldn't remember the dreams at all, just the feeling I had when I woke up... I was only on them for a short while (maybe a few days to a week, sorry I don't remember as I was in the hospital and this was 2008) and the nightmares just recently stopped.

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

Hi, My son has TS & has had very good results with Haldol with slight negative effects. When U say that ".... on the internet. All of them have awful side effects." I read it is okay but to watch for neonatal side effects, which are quite scary and seem traumitising for the child. If I get my citalopram perscription reduced will it still have neo natal effects on our baby?

s well known that it causes extra pyramidal effect that is one of the side effects of risperidone, but about tardive dyskinia if you meant by TD, I think antipsychotics at this dose have to be taken for a long time.

wow - i'm surprised your pdoc told you that! That's what they are there for... to advise on the side effects of the medications that they are prescribing. It could very possibly be the Abilify side effects, or it could be your anxiety about starting a new med.... If you don't see a let up in symptoms within the next few days I would call your pdoc back and let them know you're having side effects...

The Sizodon is Risperidone used for mood disorders and the clonil is for OCD. Did you google the side effects of each drug? Did the doc say why he/she was putting you on Sizodon and clonil together?

if you don't have side effects from tegretol, good. tegretol is one out of the three classical antimanic and MS the other 2 are lithium and depakote. it's still used especially in the commonwealth countries though less in the states due to its high interactivity with other drugs.

Stopping any medication should be done at the psychiatrist's exact titration schedule. I learned the hard way from discontinuing medications too fast before my current recovery. And also you would have the return of symptoms it is treating. If you can't tolerate the side effects or feel it is not workable best to speak to your psychiatriat about other available options and if you would like to try discontinuing it ask for a titration schedule from them on how to do it.

Hiya. I've been taking lithium for about five years and I didn't really get any side effects from it after the first few weeks. In the beginning I felt very sick and had a mild headache but it settled down. I take lamictal as well and had zero side effects from that, no major ones on risperidone when I took that. I couldn't tolerate quetiapine at all, olanzapine causes me a few problems. I've tried a lot of different meds over the years like you. I guess what I'm saying is.
