It looks like the Risperdal could be the reason for the motor tics. Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Risperdal is such an interesting drug and being used for a wide range of things now. It's an atypical anti psychotic originally used for schizophrenia. It was a game changer for that disorder. While risperdal is used off label for things like autism and a lot of people that have autism (anywhere on the spectrum) often have overlapping adhd as a secondary diagnosis, this doesn't mean that the syptoms of adhd will improve with risperdal.
Risperdal is a common drug form anxiety, it is an anti-psychotic at much higher levels. I take Seroquel for my anxiety, it takes it down to a dull roar.
We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it.

I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks
Gosh, it's uncommon to ask what they are giving you medication for? I'd just be unconventional then and ask any way. You need to know. Medication is often just one component to overcoming something. Knowing what the diagnosis is is essential to knowing what else to do!

What other medications is he on? Risperdal is not typically used alone, but as a booster to help other meds. I threw mine in the trash after three days, due to it making me so dizzy. The doctor only gave me a sample to see if it would help me sleep so it is not a medication I had to continue. I am already on an excellent combo of Lithium/Wellbutrin and quite stable. So by no means am I recommending him to stop taking his Risperdal.
my son was treated for an acute anxiety attack in his university ER with risperdal 4 days ago. he has not been the same ever since. he has had all of the classic signs of toxicity from this drug. he was treated in our local ER (2 days later) with benedryl and adavan and he seemed fine following the treatment. but the dystonic reactions, disorganized thinking, anxiety, all symptoms continue.
We are on Risperdal for my 8 yr old son's anger. He also takes tenex for his tics and attention and prozac for his anxiety. He is kind of an ABC diagnosis kid. He has Aspergers and tourettes and OCD. Most likely PANDAS because of his history of strep and behaviors, but we can't get him treatment for the underlying issue whish is his immune response that makes him get worse symptoms. He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac.
Zoloft is one of the SSRI medications used for the treatment of anxiety. A few of the children in our group have used this medication and did well on it. The Risperdal is an anti-psychotic drug and is not used in anxiety issues (so I assume this is for the Bi-polar aspect of this illness) and so I am not overly familar with that medication.
Yes I used to have some kind of social anxiety and self consiousnes but it's not the breakup,it's the stress the relationship caused to me (crazy ex..) and I tried to get over it but I guess it had to do more with a nervous problem than something to be treated with antipsychotics cause these pills have some weird side effects.
Yes I'll get a second opinion,but till then do you know how long will it take to get addicted on risperdal?

We are very new to this, but my question is my loved one has been on Depakote and Risperdal for 8 days now and the mood stabilizer seems to be working great, completely stable in moods but still in the hospital. My concern is that the delusions are still there and even getting worse. Could it be the confinement or is there another medication to address this. What is the Risperdal supposed to address. Are there medications available to address the delusions?
In 2 days time after taking the Depakote, all my anxiety and panic went away! It was a miracle for me. I felt normal again like I used to feel. I took the low dose klodopin as prescribed till it was gone and I had zero desire to even finish it after 3 days but I took it like she said. Since my anxiety was gone I had no desire to take benzos anymore and at that time I was averaging 2 Xanax bars per day, or 4mg of Xanax total per day average!
my 4 year old with autism was on risperdal, he had some levels run high so his dr decided to switch him to Tenex...he took his last risperdal 1mg tablet 3 times/day on friday night 11-12-10...he started the tenex 1/2 of a 1mg tablet twice/day saturday morning. since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...
Risperdol is an anti psychotic that is used also for other things my son was on it for his adhd it work great for him .
I had very very very good luck with Risperdal combined with Zoloft. I was able to even come off both for 6 years without issue. That is something you need to discuss with your pdoc though and work on tapering under the pdoc's care.
Anyway, I found that Risperdal was a game changer and 99.9% of my fears subsided.
