Avatar f tn My doctor dislike predinsone, and prescribes Dexamethasone. 2mg 4 times a day. He told ne to make no important decisions while I am on it. %$#&^@% How the heck do you maintain that? I was on for 14 days then taper. I was also put on low sodium, diuretic and ant-virals. After seven weeks, I was much better, but then lost hearing this weekend. Back on the steroids and it has helped, but am very frustrated.
Avatar n tn What is the average lifespan, prognosis for systemic amyloidosis??
Avatar f tn Pred and dex last long - 36 to 54 hours! So when you take the dose for the next day, the previous days dose is still there. I call that stacking. You can actually give yourself steroid-induced Cushing's syndrome just from taking the meds. I take .5 dex and I also have appetite issues. I cut carbs down (try to cut them out but that is really hard!
Avatar m tn Dexamethasone, serum, cortisol AM, ACTH Plasma tested. My doctor had me do the dexamethasone suppression test. I had my levels tested when she said at 8am and my cortisol came back below range at 0.8. The range was 4.0-22.0. Could this very low level explain the weight gain? What does this low level mean?
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed just one dose of 1 mg Dexamethasone to prep for an adrenal blood test. I am supposed to take it the night before my blood draw. Reading the drug information - mainly the side effects - was a bit unsettling for me. I'm already somewhat prone to panic attacks and feeling jittery after ingesting a stimulant (coffee, athletic supplements), so that side effect concerns me most particularly since I will be taking it at night.
Avatar m tn My 8AM cortisol was low it was 2.0. My DHEA sulfate was also low at 9. All other labs were normal including my ACTH. My doctor did a cortrosyn stimulation test. My starting cortisol prior to the injection was 5, my 1/2 hour cortisol was 6, and my 1 hour cortisol was 8. My doctor started me on hydrocortisone 10mg in the morning and 10 mg at noon. Ihave only missed 1 or 2 doses and when I do I feel horriable and have a really bad headache or migrain.
Avatar n tn Dexamethasone may increase her IOP so she needs her IOP to be monitored closely.
Avatar f tn This time, we took the test the right way, with no caffeine, no steroids (had to work off them and stay off them for two weeks to get the test done, and that was tough.) This time, my 24-urine cortisol was low-it was 3, with him saying 5 was low-normal, and that it could account for pain and fatigue, because the body wasn’t healing well, but he mostly blew it off and said it wasn't 'low enough' to cause problems.
Avatar f tn Nonclassical CAH patients, if they require medical therapy, are usually effectively treated with low dose hydrocortisone (children), prednisone, or dexamethasone (the latter 2 drugs should mainly be used in older adolescents or adults). Excessive dosing with these medications may inhibit growth in young children, and may cause weight gain and/or hypertension. Girls with nonclassical CAH do not require genital surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi! I have adrendal insufficiency, along with hypothyroidism and diabetes insipidus, due to a brain tumor I had when I was 12. I have tried three different steroids to get my energy level up. I've been on prednisone, dexamethasone, and hydrocortisone and none of them work!
Avatar n tn I am 34 and was referred by endocrine doctor to take Dexamethasone Oral (1000mg) for a test. i'm suppose to take the pill at night and have a blood test in the morning. I have chronic gastritis and suffered before several horrible attacks (I fainted and almost couldn't breath). I had serious anemia (low ferritin & iron levels )for almost 3 years because of this infection and it took me long time to fix it.
Avatar f tn I have a MD who is willing to start me on a very low dose of Armour and work up. What do you think? I am so fatigued after doing the slightest task, muscle and joint aches, depression(mild) sensitivity to light and heat and cold.
Avatar f tn 6th test, another 48hr dexamethasone, .5 mg every 6 hr, did NOT miss a dose, followed by an 8am serum cortisol, result 2.5 (range 6.2 to 19). Endo firm on 1.8, now wants to schedule surgery. My concerns: I have no symptoms. Sodium, potassium, cholesterol, all great, have been great for many previous tests. Blood pressure, great, glucose great. I feel actually very good. I know there can be a cyclical secreting pattern, sometimes up, sometimes down.
Avatar f tn Can someone help? Had 10mg dexamethasone to suppress my cortisol level! Blood taken at 9 am the following morning and the result is 28?? Can anyone interpret?? Is this normal? Low? Or still high for being supressed?? I'm going insane.....
Avatar n tn has anyone being asked to take dexamethasone due to high 17 OHP result? My 17 OHP was 64.0 and was told that it was too high ( the test was done 5 days after my first day of menstrual period). Now I am in 1st trimester of pregnancy (6 and half weeks). Would like to get some advise urgently!
Avatar f tn Hello! I'm 29, TTC for 13 months. I am starting C2 of Clomid 100 mg -- on 50 mg CD3-7, I had no positive OPKs and my progesterone level was low on days 19 and 28. I started to have light bleeding on day 34 with a negative pregnancy test. I'm wondering what experiences people have on the higher dose -- I didn't have many side effects at the 50 mg dose. Also wondering if my chances of ovulation are better this time around. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi- I've been doing allergy shots for 3 years (immunotherapy). I'm mostly allergic to weeds, pollen, trees, dust mites and mold. Since January, I've been getting colds after my maintenance shots and had to be lowered down. I'm still experiencing post nasal drip and ongoing sore throat since January. It recently flared up into a full blown painful very red sore throat and my doctor prescribed Dexamethasone 6mg 2x per day for 3 days.
11409348 tn?1417979489 s might also be a good idea, if the vet thinks this is appropriate. That may involve a Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression Test, and if so, he will have to stay in the vet's all day, or possibly overnight. But you could start with a full blood test. Before you go, get a fresh urine sample to take with you. This will save time, as the vet will probably want to run a urinalysis. Make sure it's taken just before you go, and keep it as cool as possible.
Avatar f tn I have some isocort in case of an emergency. I actually do have some low dose dexamethasone leftover from an old IVF cycle too. The thing is, these symptoms were occuring when my blood sugar was prediabetic, and my cortisol levels were coming back normal. I've only had 1 low cortisol value, but since then, I have had the hypoglyc symptoms. I'm not sure what is causing what. I know the low cortisol is causing the hypoglycemia. I just don't know if the adrenal insuffic.
Avatar f tn The endo. then followed with an overnight dexamethasone suppression test and I suppressed. My pit. MRI only showed prominence with a superior convex border but no signs of tumor or lesion. This was done on a 1.5T with and without contrast. I also had an MRI of the abdomen, for an unrelated issue, and the adrenals were fine. The Endo. did a 24 hour urine 5-HIAA also which was fine. Should this be followed up on? I am concerned regarding the cortisol elevation.
Avatar f tn but that said there are a few case studies where it has happened. I do accupunture, biofeedback, try to destress with walks, massages, eat healthy, take magneisum citrate at night.ect... Anyway thanks so much for the response.. I am very apprehensive about taking supplements..
