Restasis is the #2 most widely used prescription in the USA and most people are post menopausal females. Over 4-6 months it works to make a younger more effective tear and reduces inflammation on the surface of the eye.. My wife is on it and has had tremendously improvement as has several of her friends.
in my retina and put me on RESTASIS® (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) 0.05% and Flarex for two weeks. After a couple of days using the drops the halos disapeared, but they came back about 2 days after I stopped using the drops.
I had blunt eye trauma to my right eye from a tennis ball about a year ago (I also have eye floaters).
Antibiotics, Lotemax drops, Lotemax gel, Blink lubricating drops, Now; Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes.
Ask your surgeon but restasis is not stoppeed by our surgeons. Steroid drops are not a problem, in fact I often put the patient on steroid drops when they start restasis to reduce stinging/burning. Use the steroids about 2-3 weeks. Good luck. Be patient. Restasis is a wonderful medication.

My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
I did get plugs, but how do you tell if they are still there? I started restasis but it burned my eyes so terribly. I put in two drops two times a day and that probably was too much. I had such a terrible reaction to it. It has been about two years and my eyes seem to have recovered, but I would like to try it again. Do you think that is wise? My eyes sting constantly if I do not put drops in every 15 to 20 min. It is difficult. I just need other alternatives. Help need advice.
My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
Rare anyone to be too sensitive to restasis. My wife and I have been on restasis for many years with fabulous results. restasis works with both forms of dry eyes. Many people have stinging with restasis for several weeks which can be helped by using steroid drops for a couple of weeks. there is a new medication that works like restasis called Xidra it is supposed to kick in faster (3-4 months) than restasis (4-6 months) but has not been shown to be better than restasis and is more costly.
We have been on Restasis with spectacular results for over 8 years. There are two other drops like Restasis, xiidra which patients do not like and is very expensive and Cequa which is same medicine as restasis but stronger concentration. Ask you ophthalmologist about Restasis (cyclosporin) think it just became available as generic.
Because the problem is so prevalent the pharmaceutical compies are coming out with new products all the time. Some of the newest are Systane preserved and unpreserved drops and Optive drops. Eye drops for dryness are classified as preserved drops (individual vials that must be used within 24 hrs), preserved drops, gels and ointments. The preserved drops are more expensive and usually only help the small percentage of people that are really allergic to preservatives.
05%, I was wondering if it is okay to put the eye drops in my eye, and then after like 10 minutes or more use a warm eye compress, I am very stressed due to my bloodshot eyes from dry eye, and I find that the warm compress helps me to fall asleep but do not want to "wash" away or eliminate the effects of the eye drops with the moisture from the warm compress. any thoughts will be appreciated !
I have used Restasis and have tried allergy drops. My eyes are always red and feel as if I have something in them (which is the bumps under my eyelids). Does anyone know what I can do about this. I've been to so many eye Dr's. and I cannot get them cleared up. I used to wear contact lenses and now I can no longer wear them. It has been almost 5 years since I was able to wear my contacts. Some Dr's. want to give me steriod drops, but I do not want to put them in my eyes.
After taking restasis for over a year and my dry eyes was not getting better the Dr. gave me lotemax but said only use that. Now after using it for 2 months only, he said I shouldn't have stopped the restasis. Now I am really annoyed.....have I lost what improvement I may have gained with the restasis having stopped it for two months? Should I be seeing a opthomologist rather than a Dr. of Optometry???
In early Oct. 08 it felt like something was in my eye. I flushed it, used drops that may have been expired for some time as we just moved & did not through out all meds. I then flushed it under the tub faucet and it burned for 15-20 secs. I did not feel anything after that, but it has never looked the same. The left eye is redder most of the time and burns & itches from time to time. I'm on Restasis and 50mg of Doxy. I'm 42 yr old male.
5 he took me off the steroid drops left me on the timolol -glaucoma drops. He had ordered restasis but it burned really bad. so he told me to put in fridge. Started them today. My eyes are bright red they hurt, the Timolol drops & now they thera tears burns. wasn't before. He said i have NO moisture at all in my eyes. How far apart should i use the restasis & thera ters apart?
If you use up all the restasis in each dropperette before opening a new one you will reduce your costs by 50-75%
Restasis has been found to help both. See an eye MD ophthalmologist, consider a specialist in cornea and external disease. Find one at www.aao.org Superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis is NOT a part of dry eye and blepharitis.
I was diagnosed with severe dry eyes 4 years ago. I tried all kinds of liquid drops and they did not work. I tried Restasis for a few months and all it did was burn my eyes. They don't advertise this, but Restasis is only effective in 15% of the people. Finally I had my bottom tear ducts plugged.
What worked best for me was an ointment. I use Genteal PM as needed throughout the day, otherwies I'll get a headache from my dry eyes.
Restasis I'm pleased to know works much more often than 15%. The study on restasis was done a long time ago, on people with big big problems and wasn't continued long enough to see the improvement.
Restasis is the second most prescribed drop in the USA and its use is increasing here and worldwide (my wife is on it and thinks its the best medication ever made). Nothing works on everyone and I'm sorry it didn't work for you.
Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
But till now it only gets slightly better, i still have to use the artificial eye drops at least 6 times a day, plus Restasis. Will that mean i have to stick with the eye drops forever? Are my dark circles related to dry eye? I have performed blood tests and result shows that i don't have any allergies.
P/s: i did a LASIK surgery 2 years ago. I'm 25, female.
