Respironics cpap vs resmed cpap

Common Questions and Answers about Respironics cpap vs resmed cpap

cpap

149675 tn?1416673133 Hi, i am a Sleep Physiologist and work with patients on CPAP every day. It sounds very like you have a reaction to the material in the mask. I have seen it before with some patients. Some people have sensitive skin and can have an allergy to the material in the mask. You would need to stop using your machine for a few days to let the nose heal properly, if you continue to allow the mask to irritate the skin you can end up with a pressure sore on your nose.
Avatar n tn I don’t think you need a BiPAP because these are used for people who have high pressure settings. A lot of cpap machines like Resmed and Respironics ones have expiratory relief as well.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply and an update on the Resmed SV, which is far better compare to a CPAP machine as it has many more advantages like delivering different sets of air pressure - increased when the patient inhales and decreased when exhales breath, making it easier for sleep apnea patients who have difficulty breathing spontaneously at their own rate and depth. Also can be useful in those with neuromuscular disorder as there is no requirement for an active process.
Avatar m tn yeah needing to do something different. but the cpap mask is full mask. and think i remember its on auto. one of the new resmed models .
Avatar m tn I wear TAP 3 appliance. Did a sleep study with Resmed Appnealink Plus. 4 Apnea, 12 Hypoapnea/M , AHI 19, Average O2 saturation 93%, lowest 83% once, pulse h 101, low 50, avg 74 then I wore Auto CPAP s9 along with TAP3 and AHI was 0, All Apnea are gone, O2 average was 95% but lowest desaturation episode was 76%, once, pulse H 104,lowest 47 and average 72 Why does this lowest desaturation event up to 83% occur even with CPAP ? Is this a clinically significant to seek an opinion ?
Avatar m tn hi! I'm boiling my resmed mask in water for 30sec and I think it really helps to clean it out, vinegar may also work I've been taking d mannose hoping it will stop any brain damage I've gotten from sleep apnea if anyone wants to talk about sleep apnea and treatments that would be great!
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
559187 tn?1330782856 Yo, Julie. Another "hose-nose" here - I've been using my CPAP (mine is much like a BiPAP with exhalation relief) since being diagnosed with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) three years ago and I wouldn't consider sleeping without it!! CPAP has actually saved my life! I say this because I have had very scary experiences before I got CPAP where I'd wake up not breathing and not be able to start breathing again.
Avatar f tn My husband uses a CPAP machine and for 5 years was very compliant. He began having trouble with the mask cutting into the bridge of nose. He has tried different masks, nasal pillows; I think everything that is available. He cannot get a good seal with any of them except the one taht cuts into his nose. Bandaids have not worked. Does anyone have a suggestion to protect his skin without compromising the seal. We would greatly appreciate any input.
Avatar m tn The MSLT was abnormal showing hypersomnolence but no REM sleep so no narcolepsy diagnosis. Setting ranged from 9 to 11 cm H20 on his CPAP - a ResMed EPR Elite II. 3 years of trying every mask and chin strap and with another PES sleep study to verify pressure, we finally gave up on CPAP and he moved to a TAP appliance. My son has very sensitive skin and tried his best to adjust. The TAP appliance has been a better fit for him.
Avatar n tn Good morning I'm on CPAP machine set at 7.0 an Oxygen set at 2liters my Dr. had me to do a R U Sleep Study at home I don't know the results yet but I wake up during the night feeling like I stopped breathing also I would like to know if sleeping with your mouth open a sign of not getting enough oxygen?
702513 tn?1228512697 My husband was diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnea. He has been to 5 Repiratory Specialists, 7 neurologists, tried CPAP, now on BiPap. Long story short -- the Bi-Pap isn't working. He is falling asleep behind the wheel and at work, incoherent, etc. Oh...he is also an insomniac, has chronic migraines, chronic pain, and is on 10 medications. Needless to say, we have no life anymore.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've had terrible sleep apnea for 4 years, it was so bad I couldn't read/remember sentences and had severe exhaustion and prediabetes, constant colds. I found that 0.5-1mg klonopin seems to help my central apnea, PLMD/seizures. I feel much clearer and have more energy but I heard that it's a narcotic and can cause memory damage long term/withdrawal problems? anyway I'm really unhappy that I just got this mysterious disease and asthma.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I have a CPAP machine on a months trial, this is one that varies the pressure as required it records the information on to an SD card so when I return to the clinic I will then be given a machine that has the correct fixed pressure. I have a full face mask as I could not get on with the nose only one. Now my problem is I wake in the middle of the night with a very dry mouth (i mean completely dry) my mouth has ballooned with air and the mask is vibrating against my face.
Avatar n tn I've been using a CPAP with the full nose and mouth mask for about a year. Within the past two months I've noticed that I'm going bald on the crown of my head. I'm 33 and have been dreading losing my hair but the area of hair loss appears to correspond to exactly where the headgear strap goes across the crown of my head. The pattern of hair loss is actually has the shape of the strap where is falls across my head.
Avatar f tn I have the same problem with nose running and sneezing all day for about almost a month now. I got a new ResMed Elite CPAP machine for the very first time end of last July at air pressure 6 then increased to 9 last month that is when it started to cause my nose running and sneezing all day. I have boxes of Kleenex everywhere! Wow! I thought it was allergy, and I took pills but it didn't work. I then thought it was bad cold and I took Contac pills and again it didn't work.
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar n tn After 4 sleep studies and 3 machines (now using the Resmed ASV), I still have severe daytime fatigue and a very high AHI. Is there a center that specializes in this problem?
Avatar f tn I have been having chronic fatigue for a couple of years. Past year got so bad I almost had several MVA's. Finally went in and was tested. Severe sleep apnea and PLM's (alot of them). Cpap at 10cm helped daytime fatigue and I am sleeping better but still aytime fatigue. Provagil helps but not with driving. Ritalin, adderal not helping with that yet. Still testing for Hypersomnia vs Narcolepsy. Repeat sleep study showed very little Apnea but still some PLM's.
4915340 tn?1360965940 previous to Oct 22, 2012, my BP has historically been 110-120/80 and I never had headaches. I was diagnosed with UARS in 2005 but was given a CPAP with a nasal-aire vs a full face mask and any time I was stuffy I would discard the use of my CPAP. I haven't used it for several years now. The doctors are baffled, my sleep study did not reveal OSA (but when I mentioned UARS they looked like they were unaware of what that was).
Avatar n tn i just went for my second sleep study to be hooked up to the cpap. the first one said i quit breathing and was breathing very shallow. once i get my new machine how long will it take to be back to 100%. i could tell the morning after that i did feel a little better and did not have a headaache.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
