149675 tn?1416673133 I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and put on a CPAP machine. I have been using it for about 5 days now. I am sleeping OK with it and even think I feel a little clearer in mornings and during the day. My problem is with the mask. After the first day I had painful whiteheads under my nose. I treated them with cream (after they popped) and that is doing a little better. Now the bridge of my nose is very red, a little puffy, and I have 7 small whiteheads there too.
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar n tn Good morning I'm on CPAP machine set at 7.0 an Oxygen set at 2liters my Dr. had me to do a R U Sleep Study at home I don't know the results yet but I wake up during the night feeling like I stopped breathing also I would like to know if sleeping with your mouth open a sign of not getting enough oxygen?
Avatar n tn I've been using a CPAP with the full nose and mouth mask for about a year. Within the past two months I've noticed that I'm going bald on the crown of my head. I'm 33 and have been dreading losing my hair but the area of hair loss appears to correspond to exactly where the headgear strap goes across the crown of my head. The pattern of hair loss is actually has the shape of the strap where is falls across my head.
Avatar n tn I don’t think you need a BiPAP because these are used for people who have high pressure settings. A lot of cpap machines like Resmed and Respironics ones have expiratory relief as well.
702513 tn?1228512697 My husband was diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnea. He has been to 5 Repiratory Specialists, 7 neurologists, tried CPAP, now on BiPap. Long story short -- the Bi-Pap isn't working. He is falling asleep behind the wheel and at work, incoherent, etc. Oh...he is also an insomniac, has chronic migraines, chronic pain, and is on 10 medications. Needless to say, we have no life anymore.
Avatar n tn I have severe sleep apnea and use a sleep apenea machine and I can tell you it is not a perfect science using this machine it is not a cure and has imperfections, even using this machine I too have day time sleepyness and I have black outs driving my car it is very scary blacking out while driving I need help, I told my doctor and he prescribed me nuvigil and it cured my blackout outs and I felt awake for the first time in years, I felt alive and was able to think clearly and thought I was on cl
Avatar n tn There are some things you can do to methodically work through the problems with cpap until you can make it work for you. Sounds like your OSA is severe, so it's likely your body and brain is suffering and getting this to work is important. About the nasal congestion - Have you tried a Neti Pot or any of the nasal rinses? Using a rinse a while before bedtime helps some, including me. Are you using a humidifier on the machine and on what setting?
Avatar f tn This is my first and I don't know what to pack in a diaper bag for my baby or what to bring for me any suggestions
Avatar f tn No it comes with a ac/dc adapter to plug in. You can order a battery pack if you wish it to run off batterys instead.
Avatar f tn Hey mommys!!! I'm a ftm and I just wanted to know...what should I pack in my hospital bag for when I deliever? I'm 35weeks 4days so I do need to pack my babies bag as well as mine ASAP!!! Help please!
559187 tn?1330782856 Yo, Julie. Another "hose-nose" here - I've been using my CPAP (mine is much like a BiPAP with exhalation relief) since being diagnosed with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) three years ago and I wouldn't consider sleeping without it!! CPAP has actually saved my life! I say this because I have had very scary experiences before I got CPAP where I'd wake up not breathing and not be able to start breathing again.
Avatar n tn They put me on a z pack and told me to take Claritin D. I am now three day into the z pack and I can now no longer hear water running when I wash my hands or brush my teeth. I am still running a slight fever and my head feels like it's going to explode. Inside my head it sounds like an endless rain storm. I am going crazy.....what else could this be??
648944 tn?1241469694 From what I've read on a site devoted to cpap (cpaptalk) some of the older machines are workhorses and some report length of service similar to yours. It would not hurt to plan for the day it does "give up the ghost". Have you had it checked to make sure it is still outputting the proper pressure? Also, many of the newer machines capture treatment data so that you can know if your treatment is effective, and some even have available software so you can monitor it yourself.
Avatar n tn There is clear and recognized link between MS and sleep disorders --- at least some types of sleep disorders and especially when MS lesions are present in the brain stem. MS can definitely cause a type of sleep apnea called central sleep apnea. I'm wondering if you have that and if it might be why you need bi-pap instead of CPAP. Do you have trouble exhaling against the constant air pressure of CPAP (if you ever used it, of course)?
Avatar f tn • With use of a CPAP or bilevel, they show a pattern of central apneas and hypopneas that meets the Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) definition of CSA Patients with CompSA may be seen as those who cannot tolerate conventional CPAP or bilevel therapy both during lab titration and at home. Neither CPAP nor bilevel therapy seems to alleviate their sleep disorders.
1767141 tn?1313678474 I have positional sleep apnea but do not tolerate CPAP or Auto-pap well due to extremely dry mouth which is worse now after surgery to correct long-term acid reflux which burned my mouth and throat. I awaken very early even wearing CPAP or Auto-pap. I am only a little over 2 weeks out of the surgery I had and the GERD/reflux was very bad and made my apnea worse.
Avatar m tn Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure involving the implantation of pacemaker-like battery pack in your chest connected to electrodes terminating in a specific part of your brain. DBS can help lessen motor symptoms of stiffness, slowness and tremor.

Avatar f tn I will be 33 weeks on friday and with my first son I wasn't prepared what should i pack for me and my little girl
Avatar f tn I have alot of problems with my right hip/buttock area so, even though the lead wire was inserted on the right side, he was able to place the battery pack on the left hand side. He had to create a tunnel from the lead wire over 6 inches to the pack but that's alright with me. I kept taking the pain pills from the Friday evening until Sunday evening and slept 80% of the time. I stayed in bed lying on my right side for 9 days.
Avatar f tn I do have med my battery pack for my spinal cord stemular is twisted and half of it is sticking out to far I am scheduled for surgery on the 23 of this month they have to move battery pack and pull my leads down
Avatar m tn My first CPAP machine did not resolve my symptoms and I was switched to a Respironics Auto SV BiPAP machine w/ two liters of oxygen about four months ago. I had an overnight pulse oxygen test last week. The results show that I had two periods between 30 and 45 minutes where my blood oxygen level fell into the low 80s and even the upper 70s. Is an hour to hour and a half of low blood oxygen a problem? What are the possible effects? And, could it explain why I am still tired.
