Imagine someone thinking that you have G-d forbid cancer, with the significant weight loss. Oh well just wanted to add my comments to the board and if anyone has any questions or comments feel free to respond.

I've been on Cymbalta for almost two years now. I requested it as an anti-depressant a few months after my mystery illness hit when it became obvious that I wasn't getting better anytime soon. We've increased my dosage over time and I'm now on 120 mg per day. As far as I know, I don't get any help with my pain from it. I didn't notice any improvement when I started it, and I've developed neuropathy/parasthesia since then.

End 1/08 small weight gain, minor edema. Short of breath. Suddenly symptoms increased.Gained more than 25 lbs in 10 weeks.Feet/ ankles/ fingers/abdomen terribly swollen. All sorts of tests including kidney,liver,congestive heart failure. No answers. Back to neuro.

In fact, Meridia, a weight-loss drug, is an SNRI. Another SNRI, Effexor, has no weight-loss properties, but it is an antidepressant. This shows that tiny changes in chemical structure can have big effects on the brain. I take Wellbutrin which is a SNRI, I have no loss of sex drive what so ever, and while I have put on weight I don't think it is related to the drug. I think it is related to my eating habits in that I eat crap all the time and need to knock that out of my diet.

I am at the 3 month mark after weening myself from Celexa. I struggle every day with weight loss. I measure everything I put into my mouth. I exercise every day. I have only lost 4 pounds. I now realize how horrible Celexa made me feel. I was completely exhausted all of the time...didn't have the ability to care about anything. our father who is 78 is starting to hallucinate he was hospitalized about a month ago for pneumonia.he was also taking requip for his restless legs,the doc. took him off of requip because of side affects 4 days ago. we dont know if that could be the cause of his condition or not,he also had a cat scan of the brain, it was normal.he sees people that are not there, he realizes later that it is not real. he is getting depressed and scared,we dont know what to do anymore.

went to mayo and was diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome, which has the same symptoms of uncontrolled hypothyroidism. Last year, I suffered from hypoglycemia, and almost my proteins, minerals, and vitamins became lows as a complication of weight loss surgery knows as Bile Pancreatic Diversion (Scopinaro). But on Wellbutrin or Remeron, RLS returned and was intolerable at 300mg Wellbutrin mornings + 30mg Remeron nightly, so I got on Requip. This is a very effective RLS solution taken at bedtime, but the next day RLS returns with a vengenance. At 1mg/night, Requip produced anxiety so we reduced to 0.5mg. Afterr four weeks severe anxiety returned becoming worse each day for five days.

Besides Mirapex, the other medications that are approved to treat Restless Legs Syndrome are Neurontin, Requip and Neupro. I recommend speaking to your doctor about these medications to see if one may be appropriate for you.

My pulmomologist gave me ropinirole (Requip) because i have so much movement in my limbs, especially my feet, when I am sleeping and when I am awake too. I was looking up the drug and i found this side effect........ 'Some people using ropinirole have developed a gambling habit. It is not known whether ropinirole actually causes this effect. Talk with your doctor if you believe you have an unusual urge to gamble while you are taking ropinirole.

I've got severe RLS 24/7 and have been taking Requip for the past several years, Mirapex before that. It's gotten worse lately so the doctor had me go cold turkey 5 days ago. He gave me Klonopin to take at night, but it doesn't do anything other than make me even more tired. I managed to get 6 hours sleep on day 4, but that's it for the whole week. The doctor says that I can't go back on the dopamines (Requip) since they have started augmentation (making the RLS worse).

Yes please talk to your dr, there are many things that could cause rapid or excessive weight loss and some of them can be serious. In addition to Thyroid and GI testing maybe ask about diabetes. It seems odd, but it can cause weight loss.
