Avatar f tn My RAH has been off the pain pills since Xmas. He is doing great. He does have legit pain issues tied to the fact that he has a very physical job. He is still having lingering anxiety issues. A friend of his who went thru an addiction several years ago advised him that Aleve is a good choice for his pain as it has something in it that seems to help with the jittery feelings. He has been using Aleve for about 1-2 wks for the pain.
Avatar f tn Could you please clarify your question? Did you undergo a renal angiogram that was performed via a catheter that was inserted into either the arm or groin?
Avatar f tn I read that it can affect any arteries in the body with the carotid and renal the most common. Mine was affecting my legs and I am supposed to have another angiogram so they can take care of the right illiac.
Avatar f tn Hello there, Medullary sponge kidney is a condition in which cysts develop in the urine collecting ducts and tubules of one or both kidneys. The exact cause is not known. The common symptoms are pain in the back, haematuria, excessive amount of calcium in the urine. The complications are kidney stones, infection and kidney failure. Treatment is usually symptomatic. It is best to consult an urologist and get your doubts clarified. Do keep me posted with more queries. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn A renal ultrasound is a noninvasive test. It looks at the kidneys, and provides the patient with far less radiation exposure than a traditional xray, or CT scan. Perhaps you're familiar with a pregnant woman having an ultrasound, where a water based gel is placed onto her belly and then a wand is pressed onto the abdomen. A renal ultrasound is the same procedure, except over the kidneys.
Avatar m tn I did not want to go on meds, so I begged for a renin-aldosterone test and the aldosterone was up, so they did a renal doppler which showed a blocked in the left renal artery that was very severe. I had tons of problems trying 5 different types of bp meds - the worst were the calcium channel blockers (norvasc, plendil) as they sent me to the ER with a cluster headache so bad, I wanted to just die and they raised my bp to 250/135. This was on the lowest dosage of each. I was also vomiting.
Avatar n tn It is possible to have acute renal failure and still have normal-sized kidneys. Renal atrophy may result from chronic renal disease or infection, as well as other conditions such as narrowing of renal arteries or obstruction of urinary tract.
Avatar f tn A high result means that your kidneys are not working well - called renal insufficiency. A very high result indicates renal failure.
Avatar m tn She is healthy and has healthy food habits and no smoking/alcohol addiction. The tests showed there is narrowing/blockage of one renal artery causing insufficient blood flow in one of the kidneys. Her creatinin level is normal. Kidney apparently is also in a functioning state. There is no adrenaline imbalance or problem in glands. I am scared about her future. Is this curable permanently by medication or surgery ? Does she have to take hyper tension medication life long ?
963889 tn?1359677334 When the renal function is below the optimal level then dialysis is initiated. At the end stage of renal failure renal transplant from a competent donor would be the therapy of choice. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1047522 tn?1258145704 Transplant is already listed as a treatment option on the Kidney Tracker. You have removed it from your tracker through customized settings. We'll add all the other ones you've requested to the Kidney Tracker and let you know when they're available.
Avatar n tn I found out what I was having at 20 weeks and I was informed that her kidneys were swollen. Has anyone else experienced this? I was told not to be alarmed. But I can't seem to not be!
Avatar m tn It is necessary to have the results of the scans with you for future reference. Renal cysts are very rarely diagnosed as renal cancer. I hope this offers some relief. By the way, how old are you? Anyone in the family with a similar condition?
Avatar f tn Have they given you a reason for the renal failure? Chronic renal failure in such a young animal is usually due to a condition like juvenile kidneys or other congenital problem. In juvenile kidneys, the kidneys never grow beyond the size they are when a puppy is about 4 months old, so when a dog is full grown, the kidneys are simply too small to filter the toxins from an adult-sized body.
Avatar f tn Does she have diabetes? Chronic kidney or chronic renal disease, is a progressive loss of renal function over a period of months or years through five stages. The most common causes of CKD are diabetic nephropathy, hypertension, and glomerulonephritis. Initially it is without specific symptoms and can only be detected as an increase in serum creatinine or protein in the urine. Abdominal ultrasound is commonly performed, wherein kidneys with CKD are usually smaller than normal kidneys.
Avatar m tn The presence of a kidney inflammation when associated with hemoptysis ( medical term for coughing blood ) may be due to a Pulmonary Renal Syndrome( PRS). Pulmonary Renal Syndrome is usually caused by several conditions.Among these are : Wegener's granulomatosis, Goodpasture's syndrome,SLE , cardiac problems and certain medications. The causes of PRS are commonly connective tissue and autoimmune diseases. Was your friend evaluated along this line?

Avatar f tn He was moderately hypertensive throughout his hospital stay so they did a 24 hour urine collection and a renal sonogram. He had a renal sonogram 4 weeks earlier as an MRI of his spine showed a renal cyst. The results of the first sonogram stated right kidney 10.6 cm and lef 11cm. Mild left sided hydronephrosis and a cyst of the right renal pole 1.3 x 1.4 cm. Otherwise negative. I was told prior to this surgery that it was an incidental finding and not to worry about it at this time.
Avatar m tn Last month during a blood test the Dr said my kidneys are working alot harder than they had been 6 months ago. I am currently having weird back pain and not feeling very well. Could the drugs be making my kidneys work to hard? (Along with the gallon of diet coke I drink a day). I searched the net and found some facts on how these drugs affect your kidneys...anyone else had these problems? Thanks.
Avatar n tn For Stage 3 CKD, the aim is to reduce the risks of progressive renal disease such as cardiovascular events including proteinuria, hematuria of renal origin, declining GFR. Healthy diet and lifestyle, as well as long term monitoring of renal function is indicated . Immunization with influenza and pneumococcal as well as regular follow-up with your attending physician are recommended. Alternative techniques such as medication, yoga and other relaxation techniques may help.
