Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar m tn If your symptoms have not worsened on the treatment you are currently taking, but you have evidence of new disease activity on your MRI, you and your healthcare provider may discuss switching to another treatment with a different mechanism of action in order to control the disease activity more effectively and help prevent worsening.
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of CampralĀ® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

1713150 tn?1314467342 t quite sure why copaxone works, but it does. It is made up of amino acids, all of which occur naturally in our body. I hope I've got this all right- if not, I'm sure someone will correct me. The interferons and copaxone all have similar effective rates. I hope the rebif is doing good things for you.

Avatar f tn s neuro considered Copaxone the weakest DMD, or what weakest means. It is a competely different drug from the other 3 DMDs, and its mechanism of action is different. Also, Rebif and Avonex are exactly the same drug, Interferon Beta-1a. Betaseron is similar but it is a little different, Interferon Beta-1b. I'm no doctor, so I can't explain all the differences, but its different formulation may be one reason for its higher rate of NABs.
1116556 tn?1345115906 s attractive being a pill, but still having to monitor and test for liver damage with rebif just the same - if the stats are not reducing relapse rate better than rebif why switch. The hair thinning is a bit of a vanity that I might consider compromising if there were a benefit, but ... Well, I'm just not understanding the point. Maybe there are some who are allergic to the injections that could benefit from the pill instead?
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.

Avatar f tn Hi Jen, We've not met. I'm Shelly and I'm on Rebif. You'll be contacted to receive your Rebif script, and a nurse covering your area will contact you to find a time to come visit (will also make sure you received the meds - which you'll keep in the fridge). He or she will teach you and whoever else you want to learn the injection techniques. The nurse will also talk to you about your MS, the meds and possible side affects, etc.
382218 tn?1341181487 I sought your advice on Novantrone, as my neuro had stated that this would be the next course of action, if Rebif is unsuccessful for me after a further period of labs and re-introduction to the med. I had asked him if I could try Copaxone after Rebif, and he was very specific about expressing concern about my active MS course and not wanting to take more time to wait and see if Copaxone would work for me, meanwhile more neurological damage may be occuring.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar f tn He basicly told me that I should just see my neuro again and that the rebif was probably causing all of my new symptoms! I have been on rebif for 7 months! Why would it suddenly cause malar rash, joint pain and swelling, extreme hair loss, anemia and chronic diarrhea, just to name a few. Has anyone heard of rebif causing lupus symptoms? I am still waiting for blood results from that appt. They took 8 large tubes of blood, so hopefully I will get those results soon.
Avatar n tn s and reading other forums, I have narrowed it down to Rebif or Betaseron due to the strength of the meds. My Neuro is leaning towards Rebif for me. I just need a thorough explanation as to why. My last two meetings with him where with me laying on the floor because I couldn't sit down due to lumbar puncture headaches! I will keep you all posted. Thanks again and God Bless you all!
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me the choice of Avenox and Rebif. I picked Rebif for the size of the needle. When it comes to needles I am a baby. The first month on Rebif my husband had to give me the shots but now I am able to do them myself. When I started I was having spacity in my legs and that has stayed the same or gotten better on some days. I do not think my spacity is getting any worse. I don't have flu like symptoms from Rebif.

Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar f tn /11, I did an injection and a couple of days later I started to get a bruse under the skin at the injection site. Two weeks later the bruse started to scab over.(why, I don't understand). Now I have a large crater type hole. My muscle under the hole is so sore, I have a hard time walking. zmy family doctor gave me some antibiotic cream and is sending me to a plastic surgeon, Why did this happen, I was told it was a reaction to the shot.

Avatar n tn Some medications are actually derived from plants. The mechanism of action and effect on the body determines the classification, therefore, laxatives can be synthetic or natural.
Avatar n tn "Mechanism of Action Oxomemazine, a phenothiazine derivative, is a sedating antihistamine" The above information is about all I could find on this drug. If it is used in the US, I have no idea what label it's under. Even if I had been able to find more information, I am not qualified to tell you to either stop or start or change any medications. You need to speak with your doctor or chemist for an answer to your question.
