Common Questions and Answers about Raltegravir hiv patients

Avatar f tn combining emtricitabine and tenofovir from the NRTI class, and raltegravir, from the integrase inhibitor class. There ARE alternative drugs available and possibly in Thailand they use lamivudine in place of raltegravir. I am definitely NOT a chemist, so I can't tell you for sure if the combination you're taking is appropriate. You should discuss your concerns with the doctor who prescribed PEP or a pharmacist/chemist. I wish you the best.
Avatar n tn I just had unprotected sex from a male who just told me he was HIV Positive! He told me he thought I was too...he claimed to be hiv undetectable what do I do? We just had sex an hour ago I'm headed to the emergency room...is there a chance to stop the virus?
Avatar m tn PATIENTS WITH HIV/HCV COINFECTION Recommended regimens for HIV/HCV-coinfected individuals. ************************************************************************** "HIV/HCV-coinfected persons should be treated and retreated the same as persons without HIV infection, after recognizing and managing interactions with antiretroviral medications (see Initial Treatment of HCV Infection and Retreatment of Persons in Whom Prior Therapy Has Failed sections).
Avatar m tn Last night, I had unprotected anal sex with a transvestite sex work. I know, bad move on my part. I was on top and inside of him for only a few minutes at most. One question: How risky is this? He said he's clean, but I don't know whether to believe that. If he is HIV positive, how possible is it I contracted HIV? I rushed to the ER this morning to get PEP, but is it even necessary? And what happens if I did contract HIV and the PEP doesn't work.
Avatar n tn I had a lapse in judgement and went to a bath house in Spain about 10 days ago. I am a homosexual male with recent known HIV negativity. After a few drinks, I wandered down to the darker area and had a few interactions (no anal sex, just fondling/kissing) with some of the clientele. At the end of the night, I met a man with whom I had insertive anal sex (I was the "top"). He placed a condom on me and took it off at the end.
Avatar n tn This girl also has cssr5 dna which is a dna that hard to infect hiv. After 8 months, she had a negative result on HIV RNA and HIV ag/ab test. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4226216/). Another case is an american woman who had blood transfusion with hiv blood used AZT after 19 days and insisted with 9 months, she got a negative result on hiv ag/ab test too. I have some questions but my knowledge is not enough to solve that. Please help me!!! My questions are 1.
Avatar n tn t too much prepared to take cases like mine with HIV risk envolved. It took too many hours, even though I tried to explain them the gravity about this situation. In the following day, I finally could find a very good hospital with a specialized area for HIV treatment, and the doctor was quite surprised that they had given me just a Truvada. She added a Isentress (raltegravir) to my Pep treatment.
Avatar m tn I actually went to the clinic, got PEP (truvada 200mg and Raltegravir 400mg), also done hiv prick test which was negative. Dr was helpful and explained everything for me. He also said best thing is as u guys suggest, ask him test but also if he is clear 6 weeks back also, but that also depends on trust. On my side i don't wanna embarrass him as twice he told me not to worry.
Avatar f tn Anyways I rushed to the hospital and was put on PEP at a maximum of 3 hours post exposure (truvada and raltegravir). I have taken the pills without missing any doses. At 3 weeks post exposure the lymph nodes in my neck swelled up slightly and I felt a tiny bit feverish. Checking my temperature rectally though revealed it was always in the 37s. These strange symptoms lasted only 2 days...could this be ARS?
Avatar n tn I am a RN and I was giving a patient a SQ insulin shot in the back of her arm, she went to get up as i was finished and the needle went into my left thumb. My heart sank and so did my life. I knew she was HIV+ so i was freaking out right away. As soon as it happened i bled the site and washed it with soap and alcohol. I started PEP 2 hrs later (truvada, norvir, raltegravir, and preszita), my initial results are negative.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking truvada and isentress (raltegravir) is this enough I couldn't get my prescription for dolutegravir filled...is this pep enough?
Avatar m tn The study team suggested that newer drugs, such as the HIV integrase inhibitor raltegravir (Isentress), may be useful in HIV-positive patients undergoing organ transplantation in the future, as this drug is not likely to interact with immune-suppressing medicines (and vice versa). The results of the present study provide a useful experience that organ transplant centres can use when managing the medical needs of HIV-HCV co-infected patients in the future." http://www.catie.
Avatar f tn m quite knowlegable about transmission from blood borne diseases However I, no too long ago, handled a patients (hiv and hep status unknown)blood samples after a phlebotomy done with a canula (wearing latex gloves). Got some blood on the gloves (as expected) and disposed of it, washing my hand with soap and water right afterwards I remembered then that I had a two or three tiny puncture wound from the previous day (from unrelated injury- doing some home chores).
Avatar m tn I hear that people with some form of STD (other than HIV) are at higher risk of being infected with HIV. What precautions should one take, if he is infected with STD, while having intercourse with a woman of unknown status in order to insulate himself completely from the risk of contracting HIV?
Avatar n tn Symptoms are MEANINGLESS when it comes to determining whether you have HIV. There are NO specific HIV symptoms. If you in deed had a real risk, then only a test 3 months after the exposure will let you know your conclusive status. Your five week results are encouraging, but again, if you have had a real risk, then you need to test out to three months for conclusive result.
Avatar m tn I just want to start by saying it makes me so angry reading all the posts here and online, as it seems everyone has such an irrational fear of catching HIV from tiny risk factors and don't believe anyone who re-assures them (e.g. shaking hands, kissing, or "my condom broke for 2 seconds and I went on PEP straight away" etc.). It doesn't take much research to know there's no point in posting questions like that.
Avatar f tn I just think it is pretty unlikely that someone you dated was secretly hiv positive. HIV is NEVER diagnosed by symptoms. Only testing. And your risk was very low. Remember less than 1 percent. Guess what can cause a rash? Pep. You really didn't need it and I'd ask your doctor if they think you still do.
Avatar m tn RegularJoey- I was not aware that a friend informed the hospital that he was in a high risk group. If so, then yes, I think his organs should have been rejected. I also hadn't thought about potential transmission from the patients to their sexual partners. This is very true that the recipients could have spread HIV to their sexual partners.
Avatar f tn Does anybody else notice ur patients is running very low w ppl now being pregnant
