1246883 tn?1285547973 Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. 1052851 tn?1307741160 This means that the chance of developing unwanted side effects, such as weight gain, may increase by adding Abilify to Quetiapine. This is not to say that an additional weight gain will occur, however there is a risk. While these two drugs are both in the same class, they still are different drugs and some of the side effects do vary between them. For example, Quetiapine has been shown to be more sedating than Abilify.
Avatar f tn I tried Geodeon recently, and could only tolerate the side effects for a month, then I changed back to Quetiapine. I changed over to Geodeon for the same reason that you did, in one month I gained 30 pounds!
Avatar f tn I take 100mg at night for sleep and the side effects arnt that severe. I've noticed a bit of weight gain and they make me VERY tired but that's about it.
1052851 tn?1307741160 I read an article in BP Magazine about Zeldox, which had not yet been approved in Canada, but was in the US under Geldeon, and guaranteed the same results with less weight gain, so after some urging to my doctor, and her investigating it further, I started taking it, it had just been approved in Canada. I now only take 80mg of Zeldox (max. recommended) and am still taking the same amount of Cipralex.
301640 tn?1302652334 Sorry no one has answered your question; I'm not familiar with quetiapine, but did a quick search for it. Weight gain is one of the side effects, so you really should talk to your doctor to make sure you don't do anything contrary to proper medical protocal. Beyond that, I would advise eating a good balanced diet, of proper proportions, along with moderate exercise............those are the main ingredients to weight loss........ Best of luck......
1687493 tn?1305600366 You could try Quetiapine (anti-psyc), which I am on, it really didnt effect my sex drive, however I gained over 30lbs on this, but I am pretty inactive, plus I also am on anti-depressants (Prozac), and that in itself affects weight gain and lower sex drive, so I would say that if you take any anti-depressants you will gain some weight, and your lower sex drive - however, there is a large weight gain with the anti-psyc. Im on...

Avatar n tn • the Tricyclic antidepressants such as Amitriptyline (Elavil), Imipramine (Tofranil), and Doxepin (Sinequan) • the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as Tranylcypromine (Parnate), Isocarboxazid (Marplan) and Phenelzine (Nardil) • the Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Paroxetine (Paxil) • the atypical anti-depressants such as Mirtazapine (Remeron) and Trazodone.
1069968 tn?1264204107 It sounds like you are having bad side effects from the citalopram. I would suggest that you contact your Dr. asap, and get off that med., from what you have written, it sounds like you dont need something to make you more hyper, you need just the opposite. I am taking Quetiapine, which slows me down, and stops my mind from racing, and actually didnt effect my appetite, however you will experience weight gain. I strongly suggest that you contact your Dr.
Avatar n tn Hi, You mentioned about possible side effects when taking the prescription drugs. Side effects are a constant issue when dealing with any type of prescription. My wife had an issue sleeping and was interested not in a prescription type of sleep aid, but in something that would have no side effects. She was thrilled with the results of Fast2Sleep. Here is a link, you can look at which tells about different user's experience with this: http://potenthealthsupplements.com/blog/?
301640 tn?1302652334 Some anti-anxiety and/or anti-depressants cause weight gain. A frequent side effect of quetiapine is weight gain. You might talk to your doctor and see if there is a medication that could give the same results without the side effect.
1187071 tn?1279369698 It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.
Avatar f tn I didn't have any side effects except pregnancy, lol but some people may have them although not sure about the specific ones you asked about.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lexapro several times over the last 4 years for 6 months to 2 years at a time. I am having problems with the sexual side effects and the weight gain. It's actually less of a "weight gain" than a shift in body composition. My pants are too tight and my shirts are more fitted but I haven't actually gained a pound. I am a competitive runner and haven't changed my exercise or eating habits over the last 2 years.
1555914 tn?1296474056 Depending on how old you are it could just be a weight thing. Normally early 20s you gain weight and again in mid-40s where it becomes hard to lose the weight. (I'm too lazy to check your status to see if you have your age so those things may not apply).
Avatar f tn -)hi,yeah doc has put me on new meds quetiapine 50mg for now,but just new to them hair loss weight loss been happening for lot years now, doctor says all stress,i think so to maybe :-(
Avatar f tn The weight gain no doubt is due to fluid retention which is one of the side effects. You might discuss changing drugs with your Oncologist as there are others available but keep in mind that they all have similar side effecfts even though you mjight not experience them to the same degree. Regards .....
Avatar f tn Weight gain is one potential side effect of Cymbalta but it would also depend on your other medications and if they have this side effect as well. It would be worthwhile to speak to your psychiatrist about this and they could see how to adjust and/or change your medications as needed and also how this specific side effect could be addressed.
Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
Avatar f tn Anyone have a related experience to share or know if weight gain is a common side effect of Ramipril?
Avatar f tn Seroquel (brand name for the other medication you mentioned) is an antipsychotic and like all current antipsychotics the short term side effects are the potential of weight gain and short term movement disorders. I found it to be sedating but each person responds differently to each medication. It does have strong mood stabilization properties. I was on Lamictal a long time and I found that to be helpful as well. It took a while to build up to a full working dose.
Avatar f tn Hello,`I am new at this soo.. i was diagnosed a yr ago and was put on effexor that didn't help, and serequel for racing thoughts. then my doc put me on wellbutrin xr that was ok for a couple of months but my depression has worsed tremendously and i am taking wellbutrin xr 200 mg, serequel 50mg, and clonapin. the wellbutrin has no effect on me at all and i was actually wondering about topamax. i have tried almost every antidepressent and nothing.
