It is pretty effective I believe. What nebs does your doc have you on? I am on pulmozyme (breaks down the DNA of the mucous, thinning it), hypertonic saline...also breaks it down, TOBI for my pseudomonas (if you culture pseudo, this might be a good drug for you, it is a nebulized form of tobramycin, I rotate 28 days on and 28 days off..it does a fairly good job at keeping my pseudo at bay) as well as pulmicort and Xopenex. Lots of nebs....
also, are you on any lung clearance such as chest physiotherapy (I have atypical CF and use the Vest system by Hillrom for lung clearance). I also neb mucolytics, meds that break down the mucous so that I can pass it easier. I take pulmozyme for this, but also take hypertonic saline (also nebbed) and in the distant past, Mucomyst.
yea but it uses alot of oxygen to use it for that....i think it needs set at like 10 L/M.
My doctor has me using the neb more than an inhaler. I am to use my inhaler only when I absolutely cannot use my neb or for very minor issues.
Personally, I find it is MUCH more effective. The nebulizer produces a much finer mist than what comes out of an inhaler enabling it to get deeper into the lungs. I know of some people that have purchased small, purse sized nebs to use instead of using an inhaler at all.
He does take prevacid and ursodiol for GERD, and is on TOBI, Cipro (for pseudamonas) and the usual Pulmozyme, enzymes, etc, etc, etc.
How are these related? How can we prevent pleurisy? Will it reappear later as we fight CF? Will having had it affect his long term prognosis?
I am not taking any oral steroids at this time. I use Duo Neb Inhalation 2 times per day and oxygen on 2 L continously. The Pulmonary Doctor keeps having me try to use Advair but I get thrush in my mouth anytime I'm on Advair or oral steroids. So I try to avoid them if at all possible. I am currently using Spiriva HandiHaler which I believe is not suppose to have any steroids but I keep getting Thrush in my mouth !
I was diagnosed with acute bronchitus and also had an asthma attack on top of it which made my breathing verrrry difficult. I was given Z pack, pretnezone. And took 2 nebulizer treatments there. I have a neb at home. I have been taking the medicine as directed. And doing my neb every 4 hrs. I am becoming MORE and MORE wheezy. Throughout the day 4 times I have been coughing up green with red brownish sputum.
I have severe asthma AND VCD. I was recently started on CPAP for a mild case of sleep apnea. I hate it! I can't breathe with the machine on and it gives me headaches. I'm not sleeping any better with it than I was without it. I'm still waking up at least once per night needing to do a neb treatment. I also have fibromyalgia and PD, so I'm up several times per night due to pain, which the CPAP doesn't help.

Asthma is separate, it is bronchoconstriction, with inflammation that is reversible with medication that opens up airways such as albuterol.
Should not matter ..... I would take it an hour or so before your neb treatment so if it helps loosen up the mucus, hopefully the other meds will be able to improve the breathing even more. Hope that helps!
I sound like I am drowning in my own fluids. I talke neb treatments, inhalers, stomache acid reducer, spariva, singulair and some. I feel I am loosing this battle. I have had severe asthma since age 4. I was too embarrassed to go to er last night. I had an attack lasting 3 hrs. I took 3 neb treatments, then with no help I took 30mmg. pregnazone which I have been on pregnazone for months. Where do I get help. Different Dr's, different meds, different answeres.
I, too, am an asthmatic and have a nebulizer machine at home. I was diagnosed with my asthma at age 18 (I'm now 47), and "back then", it wasn't as common to have a neb machine at home unless your asthma was not very well controlled (mine wasn't).
It wouldn't hurt to see a specialist at this point, especially if the pedi isn't looking into other possibilities. I am a mom too, if I hadn't gone with my gut as far as my son was concerned, he might have died. He had severe asthma issues as a little boy, I called the doc one night to tell him that he was having more problems, things didn't "seem right". The doc told me to give a neb and try to let my son sleep.
with asthma, everytime she gets a cold she gets very sick, and needs breathing treatments with the neb. This time she has had a fever for over a week and at night wakes up and cant, breath at all she starts frailing around,and when she finally gets air in she starts screeming, The treatments now only seem to take the edge off. Could there be somthing other than asthma wrong with her? Im worried she is going to suffercate in her sleep.
I just got over it a few weeks ago. Was so bad i also was put on steroids and neb treatments at home. I felt better about a week later and baby is just fine. How far along are you?
I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other.

If the temperature is below 45-50 F (9 C), I make sure my neck and mouth are covered and I do a neb treatment 30 min before I go out running. I always carry my rescue inhaler with me regardless of the temperature.
Sorry in advance but this will be a long post. Im 23 yrs old, f. Diagnosed of asthma since i was a child. I could have no asthma attack for months but when i do it is worse. Im not currently taking any maintenance before this started.
Ive had an asthma flare up last month (March 2016) due to sore throat and cold. I've went to see my doctor and he prescribed me Symbicort, Albuterol neb and Z pack. Usually, this medicine combination would work for me but this time it doesn't.
s back at home recovering tomorrow is his last dose of prednisone hes still coughing a bit and we are using a neb, his weight is staying the same so thats good. We follow up with the heart Dr later this week. He did suffer some small damage to the top of his heart but the Dr wants to ride it out as long as we can. they know if they cath him we are to the point of no return of normal kidney function and dialysis is all we have left.
Hi Neb, Unfortunately I have battled with plantar faciitis for the past 2 and a half years. The extreme swelling and inflamation that I had in my right foot extended up my ankle up to my calf, it looked horrific (I thought it was developing elephantitis!) and was soo painful. Because it went on for so long I developed 2 spurs in my right foot which aggravated the problem further.
duo neb treatments 4 times a day; tylenol for fever and Guaifenesin.Plus my everyday meds of Advair 500/50 twice a day 1 puff; Singulair 10 mg 1 time day and Protonix 40 mg twice a day. I have been in and out of the ER. I have seen my PCP;Cardiologist and Pulmonologist. All chest x-rays, stress test and echocardiogram came back normal. Still having all the same symptoms. I keep getting sent back and forth between doctors with no resolve.

The ER docs are always a bit alarmed by it and keep me a little longer than normal just to make sure I am ok. I now do neb treatments at home regularly and my resting heartrate stays close to 120 almost all the time, except I suppose at night when I go more than a few hours without a neb treatment.
As you can imagine having a high heartrate all the time is quite uncomfortable and I do not sleep easily or well.
One is Hypertonic saline (HTS) 3%- docs also prescribe 7% as well sometimes. I also nebulized pulmozyme which breaks down the DNA of the mucous so that it is thinned even more. For my pseudomonas (did the docs ever culture your sputum? If not, have them do that so that you know what is growing in there. If it is pseudo, then there are meds that can be given to help decrease the colonies), I nebulize tobramycin on a 28 day on/28 day off schedule.
