Avatar f tn My as a allergic reaction to penicillin and he has a rash from head to toe. Is there anything safe I can wash my son in that will give him relief especially his face so he will stop scratching.
Avatar m tn However penicillin allergy itself is very dangerous. Even if it causes mild reaction at the first dose, subsequent doses’ cumulative anaphylaxis is itself life threatening. Today there are many alternatives to penicillin. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without further details. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar n tn I had an acute allergic reaction on Jan. 2, 2008 to Penicillin, my hands swelled and were burning . I was hospitalized and given intervenous steroids. I continued on the sterdoids by mouth along with Zyrtec and Benedril. My hands completely peeled and everything was getting better when suddenly from out of nowhere the swelling came back to my hands and the burning, I went back to the ER and was admitted again, now I have been home two days and my hands are going to peel again.
Avatar f tn An allergic reaction to penicillin is usually just a widespread itchy rash that develops within an hour or so of taking the dose.... Even if you were to have a reaction you could just call your Dr and they'd switch the med. The rash is in no way harmful to the baby.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease. The dr. wants him to take prevacid, in addition to the pentasa he is taking 3 times a day. Also--i saw some info on not taking prevacid if you've had allergic reaction to penicillin (which he has)..........anyone know anything about that?
Avatar m tn mrbreezy wrote in on June 17th about a rash involving his genitals after using terciseptic. He also mentioned that he is allergic to penicillin and some other antibiotics. The symptoms he describes and the difficulty he was having finding a cure are very similar to the fixed drug reactions I have suffered for years from penicillin and sulfa drugs. An intense rash on my genitals and penis.
Avatar m tn t believe how few doctors warn their patients who are allergic to penicillin to avoid foods that may contain penicillin - and that would be most poultry products, other commercial meat products and possibly dairy products. Buy food that are antibiotic free - believe me it works to avoid allergens.
Avatar m tn I had a look online for adverse reactions listed under any type of penicillin and found Penicillin G Potassium lists vein swelling as a serious side effect. Teva Penicillin VK states signs of a severe skin reaction including blistering.
Avatar f tn Thank you doctor I think i will insist on the shots. Would an allergy test tell me if I'm allergic to the penicillin? I took two doses of penicillin V 2 years ago for an eye infection and had a reaction to it (urticaria, fever). I then thought it was an allergic reaction but thinking about it it could have been the jarisch-herxheimer reaction. Would a simple allergy test tell me if i'm actually allergic to it?
Avatar f tn Okey can anybody tell me Why a dr would prescribe me a type of penicillin that is the same family of amoxicillin, & im allergic to amoxicillin! Why would he do that! I told him im allergic to amoxicillin & dnt kno what happens cuz my mom nvr told me! Ugh f k n dr!
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been taking penicillin for almost a week now for a tooth infection and i am having problems iwht infrequent urination (to the point where I am not urinating at all anymore hardly), also agitation, confusion, weakness, completely liquid diarrhea, flu-like symptoms such as lung congestion and headaches. None of this was happening before i started the penicillin, and I looked it up and it says if you have any of these symptoms to cal your doctor immediately but I do not have one.
Avatar n tn Do eggs from those chickens contain traces of penicillin that would trigger a reaction in someone allergic to penicillin?
Avatar m tn Hi, Symptoms of an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, a member of penicillin, may include anaphylaxis, hives, below-the-skin swelling, or asthma symptoms. Skin testing is the best method for diagnosing a penicillin allergy. If found to be allergic, the main treatment is avoidance of future use of amoxicillin and related antibiotics. Other groups of antibiotics with the same efficacy, may be used to treat the infection.
Avatar m tn Horrible Reaction to Amoxicillin I just took Amox on January 1st for a sinus infection. And I got really sick that night and the next two days I got more and more blisters all over my body. I stopped taking the Amox after the first night. I'm freaking out. Literally blisters all over, on my face, my scalp, chest, arms, back, legs, everywhere. Its nasty and demoralizing. I read that severe blistering is a side effect, but I think I'm having a severe allergic reaction to penicillin.
Avatar m tn sounds like an allergic reaction to the penicillin. I too have an allergy to that, and that's similar to the symptoms I used to have while taking it. do you ever feel sick after it?
Avatar n tn Drugs like penicillin and sulfa group of drugs are most common cause for hypersensitivity reaction. As you have a history of penicillin allergy. If your body is hypersensitive to sulfa, reaction will be similar to that you develop for penicillin. Each individual are known to respond to a drug differently in drug allergy. If the drug is too much sensitized then it can cause more severe reaction.
Avatar m tn It definitely could be a reaction to the penicillin but it may be something else. If your condition worsens, especially if you have trouble breathing, go back to the ER but now that you are off the penicillin the symptoms should be subsiding. I would definitely mention it to your doctor regardless of whether it gets better or not though.
Avatar f tn I have been having really bad heartburn and a burning feeling in my stomach. I was told to take Nexium but I have a severe allergy to penicillin. My question is, can I take nexium if I'm allergic to penicillin?
Avatar f tn It is quite evident that you are allergic to penicillin mold like penicillin notatum and chrysogenum spp. Such allergy in patients ranges from mild rash to severe reactions and depends on the body's magnitude of sensitization to such molds. This can be possible that you are not allergic to other type of molds. Penicillin molds have thiazolidine ring which may be the cause of allergy. The allergic reaction keeps on worsening unless exposure to offending mold is discontinued.
Avatar m tn Hi, a rash is a side effect of amoxicillin which is very different than an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction to amoxicillin (and then all penicillin based meds would be included) is sudden and intense and can quickly become life threatening. Rash is listed as a side effect to this antibiotic. Call the doctor but it is highly unlikely that it is an allergic reaction but a side effect.
Avatar m tn So I was told a long time ago I have a bad allergy to penicillin, I just found out penicillium produces penicillin and was wondering because brie cheese has a rind made of penicillium if it's safe for me to eat this cheese? I ate a little bit of it and got somewhat sick roughly an hour later all before I found out what its rind is made of.
Avatar f tn My doctor changed my medicine to another anti-psychotic, and my pupils stopped getting large.
Avatar m tn in rare cases this can happen with penicillin. though there are other causes as well. increased pressure can force fluid into the sacks surrounding the lung tissue , low protien values can cause vessels to leak and produce fluid that noormally would be carried away.. and unfortunatly congestive heart failure. did they do a throcentisis? where they remove some or all of the fluid to test its make up? different types of fuid will suggest different causes and will get you closer to the answer.
