5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..

Husband diagnosed 11 months ago with BP, had a Major Manic Episode (tried to commit suicide), Psychotic/Paranoid for at least 3 months. Was on meds (Risperdal and Depakote) for only 6 months and abruptly stopped. Taking no meds now. He left home 1 months ago. He wanted to separate and there was nothing his family and I could do! The one thing that still Puzzles me is that since he was Psychotic (and of course 'making things up' I wouldn't call them lies...

What you are experiencing is in the class of neurological events called (loosely) a psychotic episode. I have them, too, but mine are very mild... I just see some shadows that aren't there sometimes. Please see your doctor about this as soon as possible, to rule out things like your brain not receiving enough oxygen, blood work to rule out any danger of diabetes or low blood counts, things of that sort.

For schizoaffective, you have to have the psychosis part (the part A criterion for schizophrenia) for at least 2 weeks without being in the middle of a mood episode. If you only ever have psychosis while in a mood episode, then it's probably bipolar with psychotic features. But it doesn't really matter from a treatment standpoint; you'll need an antipsychotic and maybe lithium/an anticonvulsant mood stabilizer as well to control the bipolar and the psychosis either way.

My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety,hyperactivity,insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.

I am not in an episode and have had hallucinations very rarely, I do not understand why I must take a mood stabilizer and an antiphyscotic? How do they differ?

Hi, I had a psychotic episode after being on fentanol pain patches for just a few weeks. I was hallucinating, having vivid dreams and felt really sedated. I use Lidoderm patches instead and don't have any side effects from it. I LOVE Lyrica and wouldn't give it up for nothing or anyone -- I would certainly challenge my dr before giving it up. I'm sorry your hubby left you and your children. Concentrate on getting better and if you and he work it out later then it was meant to be.

Do you think the psychotic breakdown I described was a mixed state gone over the edge? You know luckily I haven't had a psychotic episode like that since I've been taking effexor. The effexor really helped a lot. I thank God for it because I was ready to commit suicide. I basically was in psychosis for the whole summer.

For instance, were you taking the benzos or Ultrams BEFORE your taper? Do you drink? I ask because these are the more likely culprits in a 'psychotic' episode. 1st, having an initial psychotic episode at 38 is unusual, so it is probably not something squarely in the "psychotic family" of conditions.
