psychotic break down

My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?

my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.

t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?

has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.

As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.

Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.

5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..

If I am lucky enough, I notice the psychosis when I begin to have thoughts that I am being spied on or my telephone is bugged. I also begin to make detailed plans for my demise. I can hear voices of people arguing or talking just at the edge of my hearing. If I start to notice these things I get myself to the psych dr or when I lived at my last place I checked myself into the psych hospital as I quickly would become a danger to myself.

I have been in many horrible depressive states, but none following mania. It makes no sense to me. My diagnosis is BP1 with psychotic features. What's the deal? I feel like this forum is so supportive, but I also feel like I can't relate sometimes, or people can't relate to me.

To GingerA I Started Hearing Voices Since 2008 Going on Four years, I been hearing the same things in a City I used to live at and now i moved about over hundred miles from the city all they do over is yell at holograms calling them BttleFckr or Quntera Spirits in another part of a new city. i cant tell you about imagery because its very strange to see them they dont frighten me . i just continue watching t.v and ignore them...frm IpodLmx..

can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.

Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.

ve been taking paxill and lithium for a while now and the both seem to be wearing off. Also take an anti-psychotic medication called perphenazine that was helping me for a while but that also wore off too. The clonezepam still seems to help with my anxiety and I still use the trazadone for my sleep problems. I know it all seems like alot of medication but for a little while it seemed to work.

m full blown psychotic. Only had a psychotic break once, but I believe that was the peak of mania, then my clinical depression set in, and ultimately was catatonic. So, I'm trying to let my OCD explore more. It helps channel the ADHD and avoid BPD and/or psychosis. For me, it is all bipolar, treatment is the same for me, no matter what I call each mood.

In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.

One year later I was hospitalized second time for three weeks after experiencing a panic attack/mental break down in response to several stressful events the week prior to admission. In the months prior to this second admission, with doctors supervision, I had stopped my ssri therapy due to improvement of some symptoms. Upon second admission, went back on ssri, along with trazadone and clonazapam this time.

I smoked weed heavily for 8 years. I did end up with a psychotic break, but only after many years and use of other drugs like alcohol and cocaine. I think you may be feeling some guilt about your drug use and imagining you are being "punished" with side effects. How long ago did you smoke? Any residual effects from marijuana should disappear within a month. If you still have symptoms after a month and they are impacting your daily life, please talk to your doctor.

m sorry about your son and I hope he gets better soon. Sometimes something can tip off a psychotic break and even though that chemical is not longer there it takes a while to come back from it. Also, the marijuana may have been laced with another chemical he didn't know about. Typically its amphetimines or cocaine that are more likely to cause psychosis.
