Provigil vs amphetamine

Common Questions and Answers about Provigil vs amphetamine

provigil

Avatar f tn provigil(modafinal) and nuvigil are non-amphetamine stimulants... nuvigil is the sustained release version. most health insurances will require a you to try other drugs like ritalin first or prior authorizations and after all that still have it cost a lot by having some type of deductible/coinsurance for either one of these. anti-depressants will not help with drowsiness/sleep attacks.
Avatar n tn Provigil is a stimulant (not an amphetamine...) that is used frequently to amp up activity levels......a friend had a kidney removed and had some minor trouble with the other also - fatigue was a large complaint - he started provigil and has nothing but praise for it. Few contraindications that I know of ...... some say that druggies that have speed as a DOC should stay away from it. I used it and had no desire to find any real amphetamines.....
Avatar n tn Does anyone have information on Provigil Abuse? Is it possible? My husband was addicted to prescription Oxy for 5 years and since getting off (3 years ago) has been on several different meds to overcome depression, etc. He has been taking Provigil for 2 years, but recently he runs out of his prescription before the refill date and he stays awake for days on end, between 7-10 days.
Avatar f tn I also take aderall and it made a huge difference. Also helped with the depression. Psch dr said it used to be used as an anti depressant at one time.
Avatar f tn My neuro suggested maybe trying Ritalin.....he says Provigil is the best, but it is kind of pricey even w/ my insurance.......So is Provigil worth it? ....Has anyone tried Ritalin? Has anyone had any weird s/e w/ either med??? I would be very grateful for any input....
Avatar n tn i can not point you to a specific study. in general everything you put in your body goes through the liver and that is what i meant by my comment. there are pleanty of people on these forums that have had rough treatments with terrible fatigue, etc and i have never heard of one being prescribed ritalin or amphetamines. this includes many that have seen top hepatologists in the USA if not the world!
Avatar f tn ohhh..remembering now...Provigil was a life saver./mood enhancer/not an amphetamine and not habit forming..i got a scrip but can be found at good health pharmacy..
968560 tn?1307451498 I just looked it up and it is an amphetamine. Good luck getting a doc to give you a script for it.

405614 tn?1329144114 Wobbly, that spa/casino Xmas get-away for you and your hubby sounds wonderful; you just wander around the casino until you find the right table or machine for you to win big, then celebrate with a couples spa treatment, heavenly! I can't believe I did all I did; I kept track of how many steps I put on my pedometer, and it was amazing, almost like the old me (a little slower and way more painful, but I kept going). Shell, I'm hoping my PCP is working on it.
Avatar n tn Thanks, I am only on thyroid meds and lorazepam for anxiety. I have a prescription for provigil but I don't find it helps much and the side effects are terrible to me. I am too exhausted to do much exercise much less than to get out of bed most days. I just thought some one would have some suggestions for energy supplements.
1710955 tn?1309446473 The propanolol increases the Provigil in the blood. I only take 100 mg. of Provigil. I have tried other medicines for fatigue and they don't work for me. I don't have any adverse effect and it actually makes me feel human. Typically, the medicines used for attention deficit disorder or ADHD are used to combat fatigue.
1203197 tn?1265555829 things arebecoming desperate and I am afraid I am about to lose my job because of my lack of ability to function. What do I need to do to fix this? can I take provigil in the daytime to help me with energy, focus, and my appetite? please help, i am so very afraid.
405614 tn?1329144114 Wow! I took my first 100 mg. of Provigil yesterday. I had to get up really early to make it in to a 8:20 appt. with my PCP, and took my Provigil at 6 am. After my shower, I was feeling pretty good, still dizzy and shaky, but moving fast, ready to go in plenty of time, and took everything I needed to have with me. I got into town in time to go to my apartment, pick up some items I wanted, check in with the forum, and go to my appt. after chatting briefly with a neighbor.
405614 tn?1329144114 The side effects look a lot worse than those listed for Provigil. I wonder how long the patent on Provigil lasts, and when there will be a generic form? Does anyone else have trouble getting medications that they need or that are really helpful in improving your quality of life? Ess and I discussed on another thread how both our insurances only allow you to get half a month's worth of Ambien. Are we only supposed to sleep every other day?
Avatar m tn These are typical side effects froom withdrawls of that type of medication (amphetamine, methylphetamine) or stimulants. If a patient is used to being on a stimulant drug for some time, withdrawing that drug would cause a general slowing down of the body, hence the extreme fatigue, lack of motivation and focus. Your body is going through an increased response of side effects from withdrawl, as you've been of this medication for a year which is why your symptoms may be more exaggerated.
Avatar f tn by Gerard T. Lombardo, MD (dewey decimal library system 616.8498) the author goes into detail about fatigue vs tiredness. "Distinctions should be made among fatigue, simple tiredness, depression, and excessive datytime sleepiness. The word "fatigue" is often used interchangeably with these other complaints and conditions but they are not the same.
620048 tn?1358018235 ---But, I agree with Doni, ya just kinda plug along at it.---I learned real quick what times I can do certain things vs when not to.---What time of day the friend fatigue will most likely come.---For me, I better do all I can in the mornings, cuz by noon--it's toast time.----What time of day is your fatigue starting to rear its ugly head? And is there a specific thing that seems to bring it on?---Well, I truly hope you can find some releif some how--some way.
649926 tn?1297657780 We have had several excellent discussions going about cognitive decline vs. physical decline. Now my questions for all of you is, who is on medication for the cognition? Please take a minute to tell us what you are on and what your opinion of the medication is. Is it helping? How bad if at all are the side effects? I have an appt. on 12/22 and want to request to be put on SOMETHING for this mental decline but I have no experience with "these" meds.
