619930 tn?1260374254 Thanks for the replies so far. Trinity: Vertex isn't allowing rescue drugs and my doc doesn't want to reduce yet and I really don't either. He believes in the start, the middle and the finish and doesn't like to reduce unless absolutely necessary. He is willing to try this to help with fatigue and work and hold off on reduction as long as possible. I think I agree and so far I trust his experience and judgement.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I hope cutting them in half works for you! I found Provigil to be the only thing for lift me out of the fatigue and even helps cut the mental fog. You don't want to wear yourself out, but being able to accomplish more is a great thing. Be kind to your body! My insurance covered Provigil for me for a year, then denied me again. A friend with sleep apnea got a prescription approved, but they filled it with the generic. The receipt said: your insurance saved you $939.00.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Provigil for 11/2 yrears and thanks to wonderful doctors had it approved --- It take it for CVID and RA --- severe fatigue - I have fallen asleep at the wheel with my son briefly with my son -- people were telling me I was depressed --- kept saying I was fatigued --- two days on provigil changed my life!
797195 tn?1240579823 I've been on both Provigil and Nuvigil. There is NO comparison. Nuvigil is hands down MUCH more effective to me than Provigil. Provigil always gave me a "rush" upper feeling. It felt like I was a little high. Provigil, on the other hand, is a slow and gradual release. I take it in the morning, and within an hour or so, I notice I can just concentrate better and am less tired. Its very gradual and lasts a lot longer than Provigil.
Avatar m tn A decent GP would be the place to start ..... provigil is actually indicated for treatment of CFS .......... Its an expensive drug at 10.00 a pill prescription.....lots of insurance companies dont wish to cover it for that reason...... but it is being widely used now - - it will most likely be rescheduled before long because it has more of the shortcomings that straight amphetamines have than was thought during trials........
Avatar f tn My neuro has just prescribed Provigil for me. (I emailed him and he answered within 5 minutes! Gotta hand it to him for that.) Anyway, I had previously had Amantadine, which did zilch, even at 200 mg. I am authorized to take 100 mg of Provigil, and can go to 200 if necessary. From what I recall, many of you take half a pill, so I guess that's 50. Have looked up the drug info online and it said side effects include nausea and anxiety, among other things, including a serious rash..
398059 tn?1447945633 ) I should also say that Quix has hailed Provigil as the drug which allows her to live her life with much better quality. She has said without it, she would have to be classified as a statue. Yes, she cracks me up, too. Personally, I have taken it after being diagnosed with sleep apnea, which is the reason it came on the market. I loved it.
400099 tn?1282954864 m glad your doc is treating the fatigue, but I wonder why the Ritalin instead of the usually more favored Provigil. Have you tried and failed Provigil or something? Yes, people have been helped by Ritalin and it's (better, I think) cousin Adderall for the symptoms of Cog Fog and the ADD it can cause. I'll be interested in hearing how well it works for fatigue. I thank the stars for you finding such a good doctor. They are a treasure!
Avatar f tn The half-life of a drug is how long it takes for half of it to be eliminated from the bloodstream. Hope that helps.
6298176 tn?1380134459 It has a very long half life, though I can't give you specifics. The dose and how long you were on it does factor in. Your doctor should be able to help you with your questions on this.
405614 tn?1329144114 s medical assistant regarding my letter asking for help getting approval for Provigil. She said that Dr. S. said that Dr. Y. needs to do the research since she prescribed the Provigil. I explained that Dr. Y. prescribed the trial rx, and that Dr. S. had written a rx for "fatigue from cerebral white matter disease", that Dr. Y. hasn't considered that as a diagnosis, that she has MS as a differential diagnosis. Dr. S.
Avatar f tn Because of my schedule, I would sometimes take half the Provigil dose when I first got up and the other half at noon. That doesn't seem necessary with the Nuvigil. I have not noticed general nervousness or excitement except on rare occasions. I have to think it was caused by some combination of the drug and another influence (like caffeine or cold medicine).
Avatar f tn My neuro suggested maybe trying Ritalin.....he says Provigil is the best, but it is kind of pricey even w/ my insurance.......So is Provigil worth it? ....Has anyone tried Ritalin? Has anyone had any weird s/e w/ either med??? I would be very grateful for any input....
2288403 tn?1339564728 ve been taking Nuvigil for a couple of months. I was on Amantadine first, but it stopped helping me. I only take a half usually about lunch time because that's when fatigue hits me the worst. The only side effect I've had from it is trouble falling asleep if I take it too late in the day. Other than that I have been very happy with it! Hope it helps!
Avatar f tn I remember that you have fibro as well as ms, and probably other things. What is your take on asking my dr about Provigil for the extreme fatigue of my fibro? I ended up taking a 3 1/2hr "nap" today. And will have no trouble sleeping tonight.A lot of the posts here mention taking it to help with their fatigue, just wondering if it would help fibro fatigue. Hope you are having a great Memorial Day weekend!
Avatar f tn ve never felt more awake in my entire life. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of Provigil wore down a bit and I am now on 400mg/day, but I've never had any major side effects while taking this drug. If you want to hear more about my thoughts or experiences with Provigil, I have a great deal of information on it--just send me a message. Keep me posted on how the MRI goes!
405614 tn?1329144114 Seven days worth of Provigil costs $113, though I could probably cut them in half and make it last two weeks, if Ritalin or Adderall could be a possible problem. Please let me know what you think is the best course for us to take with this matter. I can afford a few weeks of the Provigil, using some of my savings. I appreciate your help with this. Kathy" So, y'all, what do you think? Anything I should add or subtract?
1511858 tn?1290477459 Hi everybody, I went to my doctor today regarding my tireness and how I still have tremors in the legs and hands, He put me on provigil, he also shared with me that he feels when my thyroid is out of whack its causeing this attack on something that would otherwise was dorment? He wants to still rule out ms but if i dont have ms he wants to start searching for the other things he has in mind. He refused to say what!!!!!! wants me to focus on ruling out ms.
Avatar f tn Hi. It's 4:30 in the morning and I just posted "here we go again" yesterday? day before? I was hypomanic for like a month, then I was depressed for a day or two, now it's 4:30 in the morning and I think I'm manic again. This is a rapid cycle, even for me, and I'm not sure how much more I can take! My poor husband is being dragged through this, when he has problems of his own. I don't see the doctor till next week, but this is starting to worry me a little.
429700 tn?1308007823 After all this time, three years at least, my insurance company is no longer approving me for Provigil. This drug is the one thing that I've taken that has made a huge impact on the quality of my life. Without it, I'm unable to think clearly and I'm too fatigued to get up out of bed or off the couch. I may have to retire on disability because there's no way I will be able to teach. The drug also helps with the ADD (diagnosed after the MS as an adult, LOL).
