871962 tn?1244730028 Thanks for these suggestions. We'd be happy to add Provigil and Adderrall to the sleep tracker as treatments. We may also be able to add a Sleepiness Level to the tracker as well. We'll let you know when these features are available.
Avatar f tn You should continue taking prescribed medications until your doctor gives some other instructions. If you are taking stimulant drugs for narcolepsy such as Provigil, it should be discontinued only under the direction of your physician. Generally the doctors ask the patients to discontinue taking the medication approximately five to seven days before the MSLT.
Avatar f tn I have a month until I see my neuro- but does this sound like narcolepsy?? My need for sleep has taken over my life, and it *****. I am determined to overcome this!
Avatar f tn Drugs which have been used for narcolepsy are Modafinil (Provigil) or Armodafinil. You should try the lifestyle measures first before going in for medicines. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
729135 tn?1247495402 Over time, diagnoses sometimes change when additional evidence or symptoms appear. Regarding genetic testing for narcolepsy, positive test results indicate a susceptibility to narcolepsy but do not definatively diagnose narcolepsy. Positive genetic tests results are used to support a clinical diagnosis of narcolepsy. We recommend that you speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms and test results as well as to discuss the most appropriate course of treatment for your specific situation.
233622 tn?1279334905 I take Provigil for Narcolepsy. I also have POTS which is usually LOW blood pressure...and I'm seeing that you take Provigil to LOWER your blood pressure? No wonder my POTS has gotten worse. Gawd, I wish I could find a dr who knew about stuff!
807506 tn?1248649733 I had a mild form of cataplexy. I didn't even know I had it until I started the Xyrem! I used to take adderall but my blood pressue started going up. I read were they didn't even prescribe it in Canada d/t the side effects on your heart. So they switched it to Concerta. It doesn't work as well as the adderall but its better on my bp. I didn't realize you could take provigil and adderall at the same time. What does the Codeine do for you?
Avatar f tn Modafinil is a drug for narcolepsy prescribed for MS fatigue. I am interested in knowing if you have narcolepsy or MS fatigue. Recently I have been experiencing extreme fatigue for which my neuro prescribed amantadine. It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing.
Avatar f tn The patient is taking Lamictal for depression and Provigil for narcolepsy (EDS) diagnosed via MSLT.
149081 tn?1242397832 I was recently put on Provigil for narcolepsy. I have noticed since taking this med that my body basically wants to shut down around 1pm no matter what I am doing.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with narcolepsy approx. 5 yrs. ago. I haven't gone for another sleep study since, nor has my doctor seem to ever remember that I have narcolepsy. I am his only patient with narcolepsy, and if I ever end up in his office, it seems like he always forgets that I have narcolepsy. I don't believe he has a good understanding of this. Any suggestions. I am in the process of trying to switch my doctor, but in the meanwhile, I have been more tired lately than usual.
Avatar f tn I am photosensitive, although high-pitched sounds can also cause seizures. I also have narcolepsy. I take tegretol and provigil. I took dexedrine for over 20 years. Two years ago I was told I have a 'progresive degenerative brain disorder'. My brain was atrophying. I was almost always confused. Did things like turn on the water in the kitchen and go shopping for 5 hours. Stuff like that.
Avatar f tn I was recently told I have Narcolepsy with Cataplexy. I am a 74 year old Female and I am taking 20mg of Ritalin SR in the AM and 25mg of Imipram for the cataplexy in the PM. I get about 2 to 4 hrs sleep and the rest of the night I toss and turn. My Dr. told me she doesn't give meds for her patients to sleep. I am concerned about not sleeping and then taking Ritalin to keep me awake during the day.I feel my health will be affected. Is this the normal way to treat my condition?
401095 tn?1351391770 Is anyone familiar with the drug provigil or monafinil for enery and depression...? It is a drug for narcolepsy....wakes me up but not sure about use during tapering tabs...
2164295 tn?1337019528 He takes Ritalin for the narcolepsy and clomipramine (generic for Anafranil) for the cataplexy. The Ritalin helps, but he can only take 3 pills a day (insurance won't approve more), and he really needs at least 2 more a day to stay awake and function. He has bad nightmares and yells out in his sleep when he does not have the clomipramine.
Avatar n tn After my liver transplant for hepatitis c my transplant team prescribed Wellbutrin for me and for most of the patients I knew. I doubt very much that Wellbutrin would have been prescribed if it was injurious to the liver. I think it's OK.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the response! I don't have the results of my polysomnogram yet so I don't know if my doctor will feel an MSLT is necessary. Right now I think she's leaning toward a diagnosis of idiopathic hypersomnia, but is that a real diagnosis or just a label to explain unexplainable symptoms? I don't want to have to take a stimulant for the rest of my life; the thought of doing so makes me nervous.
Avatar f tn Hey, I so happen to stumble on this thread while trying to search for some answers. What are your symptoms for narcolepsy? I have always had vivid dreams.. ever since I was 3 or 4. I fall asleep in class almost everyday (actually throughout my undergraduate career. I always have to learn the stuff on my own because I can't stay awake in class). It doesn't matter if I sleep 10 hours or 12 hours a day. I can't pay attention in class and start thinking about other things..
Avatar f tn ONe can have narcolepsy and really not know it?!? Far out...! I am waiting for my narcolepsy panel to come back and was sure it would be negative. Fatigue is my biggest complaint. So happy you are feeling better and the med is working for you. Can I have some too?
Avatar n tn I am a 24 year old healthy female. About three months ago I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. After explaining to my doctor that I am always sleepy, never feel rested, little energy or motivation, lack of concentration and irritability I did a day sleep study. I took four 25 minute naps an hour and a half apart. On the average I fell asleep within 4 minutes and reach REM sleep on three of the four naps. Since then I've been taking 200mg of Provigil/day, but not feeling better.
Avatar f tn I have been unable to find any resources for this other than the sleep tracker, and the options for entering medications are limited to ones for sleep. There should be a tracker that allows you to input symptoms of narcolepsy (which seems to be somewhat of an unknown disorder) that lets you input symptoms such as cataplexy, automatic behavior, medications (such as Ritalin), and scheduled nap times.
Avatar f tn I agree with Laurencia - and I would also ask for the prescribing doctor to call you for a telephone consultation... any reputable doctor will. That may be a good time to mention that you've lost your insurance in addition to your job and activities at school as a result of your current condition.
Avatar f tn Medications initiated for narcolepsy are central nervous system stimulants like modafinil (Provigil) or armodafinil (Nuvigil). As the side effects and addiction potential is less. Some people need treatment with methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin, others) or various amphetamines. These medications are very effective but may sometimes cause side effects such as nervousness and heart palpitations and can be addictive.
