niaspan

475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
Avatar n tn Extended release niacin is arguably just as good as any drug on the market in terms of HDL and LDL effect. It can be tough on the liver but if you have normal liver function then its a legit alternative to statins (my father in law's cholesterol used to clock in at about 270 and he had the same reservations as your husband about drugs - niacin has worked very well for him - his cholesterol is now sub 150 and has been for 10+ years).
Avatar m tn That could definitely drop you from being in the high-risk category into being in the normal or slightly elevated category. That’s a big dose of niacin. As many people know, that high of a dose of niacin can cause flushing. So it’s probably a good idea to do that under some kind of medical supervision. Steve Wright: Yeah. And if you haven’t flushed before, you’ll want somebody there. Chris Kresser: You’ll not like it. Yeah, you will want somebody there.
Avatar m tn 3 oz, 7.8 mg Daily Value: 49% Just under 50 percent of the day’s niacin in a three-ounce serving. Tuna Packed in Water, Niacin Content: 3 oz, 8.6 mg Daily Value: 54% Canned tuna is the best source of niacin, and it’s packed with docosahexaenoic acid, a type of omega-3 that stunts the growth of belly fat cell. Canned chunk tuna is considered a “low mercury fish” enjoy two to three times a week, according to the FDA’s most recent guidelines. I don't trust the FDA!
Avatar f tn ve been taking 250 mg of Niacin. Based on the previous TSH told me to decrease to 150. The last dosage said to decrease to 125 mcg. Is this weird?
Avatar n tn Last night I tried 500 mg of niacin at 6 pm (out of curiosity about what my daughter was taking). I went to an exercise class and had a remarkable "flush". My daughter who is a very clever bipolar Engineering student had started using the niacin 2 weeks prior as an aid to help her sleep. At the time she had been off pharmaceutical meds for a year and a half. She had been having a lot of anxiety about this term in University (3rd /4th year) and had heard this might help.
Avatar m tn I did not know he was researching anxiety-related stuff, but I feel the need to share his research regarding Niacin deficiency's role in paranoid schizophrenia (paranoid type is not organic like the other types of schizophrenia; you basically "develop" it, but not because of anatomical brain changes). I am a psych major, and this has been discussed during my studies.
483088 tn?1212346249 This is in centrally heated bed and two layers of clothes and also bed clothes. Is this normal even when one is in treatment for thyroid? Can I help myself by taking the thyoxine even earlier? If I wake at 6 take it then and then get up at 7.30 which is when I must get up most mornings for work? Will that help or am I just gonna have to accept that Im cold and sluggish (very) in morning?? Also is this likelyto be why Im strill struggling to lose weight even when I do adhere to diet?
Avatar m tn Also I have noticed that on occasion i have blood in my stools. Could all of this be related or am i just stressing about nothing?
Avatar m tn I am not overweight or unhealthy, but I do have mild anxiety and depression at times. I do believe in the power of nutrition. My question is: I am currently taking a multivitamin, 1200mg fish oil, 1000 IU vitamin D3 and 500mg Vitamin B3 (Niacin) every morning. I follow that with a homemade smoothie that I make that consists of apples, oranges, baby spinach, wheat grass, kiwi, banana and a teaspoon of Earth Rise brand Spirulina mixed in.
Avatar m tn You could also ask about Niacin, however recent studies have found that the type of HDL particles created by Niacin are not as effective in removing LDL from your system. You can watch your diet as well, cut out as much processed foods as possible along with empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas and alcohol. Also, stay away from fast foods. I would try this for at least 6 months before starting a statin, especially at your young age.
718651 tn?1237042917 trying to lessen w\d. i've heard people take it and they sweat out toxins in their bodies, and the next day drug tests come back clean,, so i figured it would take pills out of mine.. it does seem to be working,. i am 36 hours into it and feel pretty good...
479244 tn?1271563659 In an attempt and on the recommendation of my np, I am going to start taking B vitamins (liquid, under the tongue). I had heard that niacin was hard on the liver, when I mentioned this to her she said "I haven't heard that".... (uh oh) Anyway, I checked and found that someone with liver disease (I have mild inflamation and no fibrosis) should not take over 35 mgs. of niacin per day. This stuff I bought at the drug store has 25 mgs. of niacin.
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar m tn In addition to the 500 mg's of SLO (sustained release Niacin) note that I was also getting 225 mg's of regular niacin in a B complex. I''ll recheck blood in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn red skin and feeling hot, this is due to the increase in hdl that opens up vessels and this is actually good even if you may feel having red skin and feeling hotter is strange, no worries about this by the way you may also try ezetimibe since the recent news of entry interference on hbv and no sdies from this drug, while i d not try statins
Avatar f tn And if you are on a cholesterol lowering medication already, it may have no effect at all. It IS in a lot of multi vitamins and in food we eat, you are already getting some niacin. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/niacin/art-20046208 Things to look out for when using are skin rashes, gi issues and possibly impact on developing type 2 diabetes. https://health.clevelandclinic.
Avatar f tn Not sure where the rest of post is. Day 2 - 500mg Clarithromycin & Amox 875mg that night. This morning took 500mg of both Clarithromycin & Amox, and Ceftiaxone 1gm IV. I am aware of CDC guidelines and think that this single dose of rocephin & a total of 5gm of Biaxin over 4-5 days (in place of Azithromycin) should be effective? How long should I wait to engage in intercourse with my significant other?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a blood draw in April of 2009 and all of my numbers were perfect accept for my cholesterol was a little high. I was told from friends that Niacin helps as well as fish oil. So, over the past 8 mths I took Niacin and fish oil and my new blood draw cam up with a perfect score in the cholesterol area but my Bilirubin total was elevated at 1.4, Iron UIBC low at 102, Iron serum high at 175 as well as Iron Saturation at 63, and my biggest concern was my TSH high at 5.08.
Avatar n tn HTM My fluttering seems to be a type of muscular tinnitus, perhaps caused by deterioration of some nerves in the area after some type of injury and/or muscle spasm. What to do? I'm going to try taking Niacin which is a known blood vessel dialator, and Ginko which has similar effects. There is also accupuncture, which can relieve some types of spasms, but it can also create spasms.
Avatar m tn B-12 crisis Overdoing the dosage of vitamin B-12 is generally not a problem for vegetarians, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) that carries an important warning about cardiovascular health. A study tested the effects of B vitamin supplements on more than 500 patients who had undergone coronary angioplasty. Half of the group received a supplement of folic acid, vitamin B6 and B12, while the other half received a placebo.
Avatar n tn Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. Niacin is usually prescribed for increasing the levels of HDL or the good cholesterol. It helps in protecting against the effects of atherosclerosis. It is available in many forms, fast acting and long lasting, over the counter and prescribed. There is a known incidence of facial flush with high doses. It could also cause headaches, dizziness and raised blood sugar. It is therefore prudent to take it under a physician’s prescription and supervision.
1063764 tn?1272821064 Most flush-free niacin isn't very strong, especially niacinamide, which probably does nothing. So if you're going to try large doses, you might have to endure the flush. You also should do this in conjunction with your physician or a naturopath, as too much niacin can be dangerous. It can also affect your levels of other B vitamins. I've heard of it being used for anxiety, and it does calm the heart. It energizes those who need it, so I don't know about it making you tired.
1495437 tn?1288798915 Your body is known to hypersensitive to Niacin. Flushing, hypotension is known adverse effect of niacin in some individuals. The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as severe idiosyncratic dermatologic reaction. As for marks are concerned, Hydroquinone cream against prescription plus sun protection can lighten existing lesions.
Avatar f tn As far as I know my diat does not include an unusually high amount of niacin. I do eat bran cereal and drink about 4 8-oz. glasses of milk a day.
