Propecia and itchy scalp

Common Questions and Answers about Propecia and itchy scalp

propecia

Avatar m tn I will confess that I don't know exactly what your problem is, but one this is sure: you can't damage your follicles permanently with minoxidil. In fact, I've never heard of that drug damaging anything. So to start with, please stop panicking about that. I think what the doctor prescribed to reduce inflammation makes sense. White-yellow stuff doesn't just come out of the scalp, unless you rub the scalp and make it come out. Could you be doing that?
Avatar m tn I didnt have this burning sensation before i went to see my doc. And my burning scalp is not a symptom of propecia. Any ideas to what this could be? A disease? Theres indication of burning when looking at my sclap. This maybe unrelated but i have what seems like build up on my scalp. If i scratch my head I can get these white plaque like grains of sand. I notice all when my hair falls out this plaque is attached to the hair and the the white bulb at the end. Any ideas.? Please advise.
Avatar n tn s assistant pretty much ruled out telogen effluvium, told me it was androgentic alopecia, and wrote me a prescription for Propecia. I almost wish I had not went to this appointment as I now have to decide between what this PA concluded and what seems like common sense. Does this seem like a correct diagnosis or should I get a second opinion?
Avatar n tn Hi, Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day and this amount of hair loss should not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp hair. Hair thinning and loss could be due to increased rate of shedding compared to the rate of regrowth. This could be due to: hormonal changes, poor nutrition, diseases, certain medications, infections and stress.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the info! I have tried some of the shampoos with salicylic acid or coal tar - all it did was make my scalp worse- sort of firery sore and super itchy. that's why I think its dry scalp and not dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis - the symptoms just don't fit. my hair and scalp are dry, not greasy - even if i go 3 days between shampoos my hair is not greasy. the flakes are small and white and not oily.
Avatar n tn “Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use PROPECIA and should not handle crushed or broken PROPECIA tablets because the active ingredient may cause abnormalities of a male baby's sex organs. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the active ingredient in PROPECIA, a doctor should be consulted. PROPECIA tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed.
Avatar n tn when scalp becomes oily it starts itching, sometime i can see itchy pimples. Have gone to doctors few time and had taken Antibiotics and shampoos like KZ lotion, Kertyol, Endruff lotion etc..once after medication it becomes bit less but i need to use these shampoos daily to avoid itching and pimples and at the end of the day it always bit itchy 2. I have seen my scalp shape has got bit changed. Its not round anymore like before. It is bit enlarged at the crown area where it normally itches.
Avatar f tn I have recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was put on levothyroxine (about the middle of September). I went from taking 25mcg to 50mcg about three weeks ago. For the past two weeks I have had a terrible itchy and flaky scalp and have been using a dandruff shampoo but it doesn't seem to be working. Could this be a side effect from the medicine?
Avatar m tn I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.
Avatar f tn Your doctor can also prescribe a topical steroid for this. These meds are available in a solution that is non-greasy for use on the scalp. The one I've used (and found very helpful) is fluocinonide solution. I also didn't do well with strong menthol shampoos or conditioners - they really irritated my skin even more.
Avatar f tn But now, I still have itching where the rash was, and an intensely itchy scalp! I always wear a hat in the sun, so I dont think my scalp was ever sun-burned. The itch is not that unpleasant, kind of like the itch one would get, from an opiate, so I havent been taking any more anti-itch pills, because I avoid extra meds, as a genreral principle, in my daily life.

Avatar m tn For the last few weeks while i've been on vacation my scalp has been itchy and my hair has been falling out, at first i thought i was going bald at a young age (which was upsetting) then i did some more research and read that it could be a skin infection of some sort that could be reversable.
Avatar n tn I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp.
Avatar m tn Other symptoms include eyelash fall, styes on my eyes, small pimples on my face, changes in my skin, itchy forehad, bleeding scalp, and beaus lines on my nails, along with minor pitting. My scalp is extremely itchy as well. Ive already come to terms with my hair loss on the top of my scalp, but I dont want to loose the hair on my sides or my eyebrows!! please help!!!!

Avatar n tn Hi, I am visiting my sister. She has just finished her 3rd chemo (taxol/carbo-IV) She is having a time with nausea and it is day 9. she cannot take compazine. she uses zofran but I was told that is not really effective for delayed nausea. Any suggestions??? Also she is complaining she has a very itchy scalp. she uses Eucerin lotion. Any suggestions???
Avatar f tn I put my hair half up half down (mine is long) so I get it on my lower scalp (above my neck, on scalp behind my ears etc) and crown/top of my head. You really dont need it on your hair, just scalp so splitting my hair works best. Only wash it every two days. Dr can prescribe clobetasol for itchy spots if it gets worse. Water, sunshine and keeping stress low also helps a lot:) I hardly have issues anymore.
1148619 tn?1332010984 I know the itchy skin and scalp has been hashed over and I feel like I have a handle on the skin, lotions, humidifier, cool showers, etc but the itchy scalp is not calming down. I wonder what people think while talking to me and I constantly itch scalp. My doc looked and there is no dandruff. I tried hot oil packs, all sorts of different shampoos, etc. thinking of going to salon and see if they have a suggestion. I know I saw somewhere here recently this being mentioned.
Avatar f tn t have scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin; just itchy scalp and some pimples. I also have had no hair loss; if only I could on my legs and underarms, ha ha. That's why I asked if it could be related to rosacea. Has anyone every heard of rosacea spreading to the scalp; I know it can affect your eyes.
Avatar n tn Throbbing headache on one side of the head and back of head along with scalp sensitivity and tenderness on touching the scalp are seen with temporal arteritis. There is inflammation and damage to the blood vessels that supply the head area, especially the head area, the large or medium arteries that branch from the neck. The cause is usually a faulty immune response. Consult your neurologist immediately who would examine you in detail.

Avatar f tn The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection. Diagnosis is by clinical examination of the scalp as well as a skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination. Anti-fungal medications, taken by mouth, are used to treat the infection.
Avatar n tn I've never had any issues with my hair, but all of I've noticed when washing it and brushing it alot more is coming out than normally would. And it is alot thinner in just a couple weeks. My scalp is itchy like no other and I've used ever dandruff shampoo, home remedies, even cortisone cream on my scalp...nothing seems to keep the itch away.
7827642 tn?1396958758 15 weeks and 5 days and my scalp has been super itchy here lately as well as parts of my face and my forehead. Sometimes others parts of my body will itch but not all the time. What could be going on? I don't see the doctor again until Tuesday of next week.
