Propecia and hair regrowth

Common Questions and Answers about Propecia and hair regrowth

propecia

Avatar n tn Hi, Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day and this amount of hair loss should not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp hair. Hair thinning and loss could be due to increased rate of shedding compared to the rate of regrowth. This could be due to: hormonal changes, poor nutrition, diseases, certain medications, infections and stress.
Avatar n tn However, poor quality shampoos, conditioners, and styling aids may cause hair breakage that can sometimes be mistaken for hair loss. If you’re bothered by thinning hair, switching to salon quality hair care products might be a worthwhile investment. Hair transplants and scalp reduction surgery can be used to treat thinning hair. However, these treatments are expensive, painful, and carry serious risks.
Avatar n tn So, I went back on BC and the hair stopped falling out. And I have been for the last 3 years, but I am thinking future and I would like to have kids eventually and well I know this isn't very likely while im on BC, but at the same time I don't want a repeat of the hair thing, so my question is; are there any known medications out there that could act as an alternative to birth control when used to treat hair loss? And I am not referring to rogaine or propecia or anything like that.
Avatar m tn I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.
Avatar n tn bumping this up for others to post .........
Avatar n tn Since telogen effluvium is reversible and self-limiting, I think you should hold off on the Propecia for 3 months and see what happens. If the hair is falling out a lot less, then I would continue to wait for the hair to re-grow from its telogen loss. You don't really have anything to lose--male-pattern hair loss wouldn't leave you substantially balder in 3 months anyway, and you can always reconsider the use of Propecia then. Take care. Dr.
Avatar n tn Has anyone experience hair miniaturization due to thyroid condition/thyroid meds? Do the hairs eventually return to normal size once hormone levels are stabilized? I lost alot of hair (possible Telogen Effluvium) from thyroid meds. Very little regrowth, and the new hairs are "miniaturized"- what does this mean?
Avatar f tn I started taking 1000 mg of spirulina a few days ago and my hair has stopped falling out. I can also see new regrowth already. I'm still hypo according to my labs and Im taking a low dose of Armour, which hasn't brought my numbers into range yet.. My eyebrows are growing too. I just wanted to share this with anyone who is struggling with hair loss and thinning. There's hope!
Avatar f tn I take it once a day. The trick is to drink it quickly before it thickens. My Daughter has also used it all of her big kid life. the stylist call her hair fur.
Avatar n tn I took Levothyroxine for approx 10 mths and lost a significant amount of hair in a 3 mth period (possible Telogen Effluvium). When should I expect my hair to start growing back, and what % regrowth can I expect? I am a female in my early 30s with no family history of hair loss.
Avatar f tn My dermatologist prescribed steroids and the rash went down, but the itchy scalp and flaking and hair loss are still going on - three weeks later. I want to know if this is hormonal and stress-related (my job is requiring me to work 12-hour days and is a stressful PR position AND I work a job on the weekends because my PR job doesnt pay what I owe in student loans) - this on top of having to deal with becoming pregnant (unplanned) and then losing that pregnancy.
Avatar f tn In regards to hair removal, any technique (including waxing) that does not “destroy” hair follicle (“root”) will result in hair regrowth. New generation of hair-reduction lasers are suitable to treat even patients with light colored hairs. Wishing You Optimal Health, Dr.
Avatar f tn Finasteride is an underestimated and dangerous pill for hair loss. Its hard to stop it and not experience libido issues. You are lucky enough that you took it for so little time. There are other people taking it for years facing serious hormonal side effects. It will probably take as long as you took the tablets to feel like before. So a couple of months is a good projection as this pill changes hormonal balance in your blood and gene expression about androgen receptors.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Well, it's been 4 weeks since I ended treatment. I'm starting to feel sooo much better! My hair is still shedding all over though. To anyone else out there who has finished, how many months did it take for your hair to stop shedding. It's all over my house, my car, the laundry comes out of the dryer with clumps of hair that accumulated on my clothes, ect. Don't get me wrong, I still have long pretty hair, and I'm so grateful!
Avatar n tn He has lots of hair now and he does not lose any more hair. However, news is floting around saying that the sexual side effect comes from propecia is sometime not reversible. Asyesterday,he stopped his medicine. I am really worried if it has done any damage to him or not. He has never been in any relationship, so he really can not tell if it has done anything to him. please read more on any medicine you take.
Avatar f tn My eyelashes fell out and came back a couple of times...I think it's because those hairs are short lived and replace themselves pretty quickly. I always considered the first hair to regrow the "bad" hair.... it seems very brittle and not quite right. Once that grows out, the newer hair should be more normal. Congrats on the twins. I had my last little girl while on chemo.
Avatar f tn I have thyroid problems, first hyper, then hypo, but my hair was never the same, I bought these, and I swear by them, they do work, my hair never looked and felt and GREW as healthy as it did. Remember though to take vitamins at least 4 hours apart from your thyroid medication so it doesn't interfere.
1840891 tn?1431547793 I am only on week 29 of 48 and my hair is barely an inch tall all the way around. My hair line receded really far back too. I knew this was going to happen but I am so freaked out. I cried and my poor husband felt so helpless. I even have hair pieces I can where but I never thought I would actually ever *need* them. I know how encouraging it must be to see baby hairs and feel pokey new hairs. I am happy for you. I have read Pro and Con about Biotin but I am ready to try anything!
Avatar n tn I went through 8 cycles of chemo back in January of 07 and lost my hair. Then it started to grow back but then my cancer had spread to my brain. They removed it and I went through 6 cycles of chemo but my chemo was discontinued because an MRI showed that the tumor in my brain had started to grow again. I went through 20 treatments of full brain radiation and 4 treatments of gamma knife or focal. Now my doctors want to do intense chemo and a stem cell transplant.
Avatar n tn I know going bald is hereditary, but the fact is that it starts when -the body is producing to much testosterone that is being converted into DHT -Or some other type of imbalance is causing excess DHT DHT causes hair loss I am in the exact same boat as you guys except no propecia for my hair loss I also have gynecomastia and I am awaiting my hormone test to see if there is an underlying cause.
Avatar m tn 5 mg for one year and 1 mg for 1 year till today), In october 2016 my derm put me on accutane 10 mg and minoxiline(100mg) for treating my mild acne, I had been drinking heavily for 5 days before starting my accutane course, 10 days into the course, I started to have Gyno(Unilateral, right breast with a movable tender lump), I dropped accutane and minoxiline and also propecia after 23 days. It has been a month now but my Gyno hasnt reduced, I restarted propecia as I was starting to lose hair.
Avatar n tn The pattern and quality of hair regrwoth after losing hair to chemotherapy can be varied and is different from one person to another. Most people would have thicker hair upon regrowth but like in your situation, some can grow thin sparse hair. It is indeed possible that this can be a lasting consequence of the chemotherapy. There are new technologies regarding hair regrowth and I'm sure your dermatologists know these.
Avatar m tn I went to a dermatologist and she put me on propecia for the hair loss. I also took a blood test and said my iron was low. But other then that I my blood was normal. Is it possible they ran certain tests on my blood and not others which maybe why I am misdiagnosed. I have a follow up in late july. I didnt have this burning sensation before i went to see my doc. And my burning scalp is not a symptom of propecia. Any ideas to what this could be? A disease?
