Common Questions and Answers about Prograf drug

prograf

Avatar m tn I take Prograf for the liver transplant and I know Naragenin affects the Prograf levels. My question is if during treatment I also took Naragenin and my prograf levels were closely watched and adjusted for the Naragenin effects, wouldn't I have a better chance of clearing the virus.

Avatar f tn I'm geno type 3. I've heard Prograf is harder on the kidneys than sirolimus which is why they switched me from cyclosporine to sirolimus. That's probably why they haven't suggested switching me to Prograf in fact this is the first time I'm hearing about Prograf or Tacrolimus (it's other name as I found on the web). Thanks for your response and congrats on your great report since week 4 !
Avatar f tn I think 2 mg Prograf per day at 6 months out is a really nice dose and his Prograf blood level of 6.5 is definitely within range.
Avatar n tn Now the insurance company is ******* me over on the Prograf, so I soon will be free of this drug. My blood pressure has been uncontrollable, due to the Prograf. Thanks to Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Medicare Part D of Florida, my life will improve or end quickly.
Avatar n tn If i lower my prograf lower than 6.5 through rate i start getting discomfort right side .i am having cognitive issues on prograf that are getting very hard to live with, seems like it got alot worse after my last of three mri with contrast in two years. was hospitalized two days after last contrast exsposure white blood count went to1000, headach, fever urine got exstremly foamy, severe itching ,tighting and rashd eveloped on lower legs two weeks after.
Avatar n tn I believe that diarrhea can cause an elevation in Prograf level. Taking Prograf with food can decrease absorption and result in a lower Prograf level. This is even more pronounced if you take it with fatty food. If Prograf doesn't upset your stomach it is best taken about 1 hour before eating - on an empty stomach. The range on my labs sheet is 4 - 16 so you are well within range.
Avatar f tn Pentamidine (aerosol) 1x monthly, Prograf 2mg 2x daily, metroprolol tartarate 12.5mg 2x daily, magnesium oxide 400mg 2x daily, oscal, multi vitamin, vitamin d3 1000iu 1x daily. Thanks.
Avatar m tn My current dose is Prograf 3 mg AM/ Prograf 3 mg PM and Rapamune 4 mg AM. The intent is to convert me to 100% Rapamune because of the nephro-toxicity of the Prograf and my young age and because of the anti-cancer properties of Rapamune. Data, while horribly limited, has shown Rapamune's anti-cancer properties have had success against vascular tumors such as mine so EHE, in this case chronic, is part of the cancers Rapamune affects (some cancers it has no effect).
Avatar f tn I went into rejection twice in the hospital and because of this my transplant team saw it best to put me on 5mg of prograf twice a day as well as 4 mg of rapimune, which by the way was off label and i had to sign a release form for. Just within the past 2 months they lowerd my dosage of rapimune to 2mg but kept the prograf the same. My question to you is exactly how suppressed is my immune system?
686869 tn?1227199935 I was taking 2 mg Prograf a day at 5 years out and then they tried to wean me off Prograf completely (2 mg one day then nothing the next and 2 mg the next and nothing the next and so on) and I think I had a minor component of rejection and increased my dose to 3 mg per day, I think I'd ask about the possibility of reducing the Prograf and see how that goes.
1644856 tn?1301038801 Will it come because of the fk prograf? I also fight diabetes, which I never had before the transplant. Now I feel like some junkie on pain killers. What do you think of all this? I`am worried about the future.
29837 tn?1414534648 05mg daily of Prograf. Has anyone who had a liver transplant gotten off the Prograf completely? Inquiring minds want to know.
Avatar f tn My husband had a liver transplant on Aug.5th - and has been **** well. Today he broke out in hives all over his head. He is itching terribly - and the 2nd Benadryl hasn't helped. He is on Cellcept, prograf, and is in a clinical trial (so we don't really know what the extra meds are). Should we be concerned???
Avatar f tn I am 6 years post liver transplant from genotype 3 Hep C. My doctors want to start treatment to clear the virus. I take Prograf for the liver transplant and I know Naragenin affects the Prograf levels. My question is if during treatment I also took Naragenin and my prograf levels were closely watched and adjusted for the Naragenin effects, wouldn't I have a better chance of clearing the virus.
Avatar m tn 5mg and tenofovir 300mg) and prograf, cellcept wysolone etc. Two months back entacavir was withdrawn and I am now treated with tenofovir, prograf(6mg), cellcept(1000mg) and Magnesium suppliment. Almost at the same time( 2months back) I suffered from maleria also. Since then SGOT and SGPT are gradually rising from normal level, and they are now 69 and 46 level( normal range is 4) and rose to 3.2 almost one month back but it goes down to 2.3 now. What could be reason?
Avatar n tn My history: liver transplant 1 year ago, had 2 moderate rejections and 1 mild since transplant. At present time having moderate rejection, recently had one portal stent and 8 Bilary ERCP's to remove stones and sludge and had stenting done, and at the present time there are no blockages. Was on Rapamune (5mg a day) prior to hernia surgery and then week before hernia surgery was put on Prograf (4mg a day) and taken off the Rapamune. I have been on Progaf since hernia surgery (8 weeks ago).
Avatar m tn If suppressants are at the correct trouph levels, say, Prograf and Rapamycin, what are the next steps - switch suppressants, treat?
338734 tn?1377160168 Found this article also that I thought might be of general interest. I appologize if this information has already been posted and/or discussed. It portrays a different picture than when the drugs were finishing trials. We new there would be many problems and hurdles to overcome once they were approved. From my standpoint, the difficulties in treating liver transplant patients was a concern. It turns out to be more of a problem of just the problem that it wasn't studied in TP patients.
Avatar f tn I am extremely concerned and feel helpless. He was a drug addict for many years, but was clean 15 years prior to transplant. I want to know what this drug use now is doing to his liver, even though the liver function test are O.K. They do raise occasionally, but never enough for dr's to be concerned. He also takes 1800 mg daily of neurontin for the neuropathy. Neurologist says the only cure for the neuropathy is treatment for the HCV. His hepatologist wants to wait for new drugs.
Avatar m tn It would have been easier if you told us which drugs are of concern to you. There are a number of drugs that are listed as 'potential', meaning not everyone is affected, perhaps as little/much as 20% which I did not list below. A lot depends on current health status and associated drugs/medicines currently taken as some drugs cause interactions with other drugs which can raise glucose levels.
Avatar m tn t understand the relationship between treatment and Prograf dose. It sounds logical to think that the higher the Prograf dose the less likely TX will be successful and, at the extreme, I think that's probably true. But, whether 3 mg per day or 6 mg Prograf per day makes any difference is a question I cannot answer. When I treated there was a reluctance to dose the way a non-transplant patient would have been dosed and that can be and, in my case, was problematic.
Avatar n tn there are prograf assistance programs that the company offers. If this is not feasible than using other cheaper medications such as verapamil for example for HTN for example will alllow much lower doses of prograf to be used (it delays metabolism of the medication) and thus it comes out cheaper.
