Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq snri

pristiq

Avatar f tn Hi. I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
Avatar f tn In my case from Nortriptilyne (sister drug of Amitriptilyne) to the SNRI Pristiq. I did this because the Nortriptilyne stopped working for me after 18 months. In the case of Amitriptilyne you can not take both at the same time, but you can make a pretty fast swap. I took my P-docs advice and just made the switch after only a 3 day wash out of the Amitriptilyne and had no problems.
324184 tn?1308076203 My partner has just stopped taking Cymbalta (60 mg after 3 + years) and started taking Pristiq (50 mg). She has been on it for 6 days and she has had diarrhea and vomiting for 3 out of those 6 days. Has anyone experienced these types of side effects on Pristiq? I know everyone is different and we're hoping that her body will adjust to it and start working. I'm also wondering if she is sick due to abruptly stopping the Cymbalta (her dr.
Avatar m tn No doctor here, that's on the mental health forum, but there's no equivalency between medications really, you never know how they're going to affect you or if they're going to work at all. Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri.

Avatar f tn i have had generalized anxiety (severe) for 12 yrs. currently only on 5 mg of lexapro only because i couldn't get off the last 5mg. i take clonazepam which is the only thing that works, but every couple of years i hit a wall and need to up the antidepressant. been on zoloft, paxil, celexa, effexor, lyrica, cipralex(lexapro), maoi's, etc..wondering if pristiq works, or maybe cymbalta? only snri i was on was effexor, which didn't do much but also had a brutal psych.
Avatar f tn has anyone ever heard of the medicine call Pristiq? my doctor put me on it a couple of weeks ago and it is suppose to help with both depression and anxiety? Not sure it is doing it's job yet though. I take that and xanax for all it is worth. thx for the help.
Avatar m tn Hey guys I've been on klonopin for like 9 months and pristiq...I take half of a tablet of klonopin in the morning and another half later in the day like @ 7 p.m....and then I take 2 pristiq pills at night be4 I sleep....so ever since christmas I haven't taken pristiq cuz my insurance doesn't cover it..
Avatar f tn First, Pristiq isn't novel, it's just Effexor with part of it cut off, as was done with Celexa/Lexapro. Some will say it's just a way to get another drug on patent, but since people do have very different reactions to Celexa vs. Lexapro, there probably are differences here, too. Second, Cymbalta isn't an ssri, it's an snri like Pristiq. Third, snris can be very stimulating because they target norepinephrine.
Avatar m tn took 1 100mg pill of 5 htp yesterday at 3pm and it made me feel awful. I've decided to start taking the meds my doc gave me today. The only thing is, I wanted to know if it is safe to start the meds right now. It's been almost 24 hrs since I took the 100mg pill of 5 htp but I just want to know if it's ok to start taking the pristiq the doc gave me. the 100mg 5htp pill was the first and only 5htp I"ve ever had. Please, if anyone could let me know.
Avatar m tn Tramadol is not only a painkiller by affecting the u-opioid receptor but it also have the proprieties of inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine which would make it a painkiller with SNRI proprieties. Pristiq is a SNRI antidepressant so both are interacting together. So you have increased risk of serotonin toxicity and increased risk of seizures and other neurological symptoms. Please call her doctor to let him know this is happening.
1489588 tn?1303998295 When I take Savella and Pristiq together, it works wonders. When both my pain dr and my psychiatrist got together and said I couldn't take them together, I became very depressed after getting off of Savella. I didn't want to kill myself, but I sure didn't want to live. Lyrica put me to sleep in horrible ways, Cymbalta doesn't work for me and anything like Prozac or Lexapro or Zoloft is candy to me. I also take Norco.
606378 tn?1297304964 Does anyone know anything about pristiq? I was looking to see if anyone has had any experience with this medication or if anyone knows anything about it.
Avatar f tn But I think this drug is more like an ssri than an snri, which is what effexor and pristiq are. Keep in mind effexor and pristiq are almost identical drugs, with pristiq just eliminating some of the molecules in order hopefully to reduce side effects but mostly to get new patent protection. It's like Celexa and Lexapro. This class of drugs is stimulating as it targets norepinephrine as well as serotonin, and is usually not used for primary anxiety as a result.
Avatar f tn I am in serious need of help trying to withdraw from SNRI Pristiq. I tried doing it cold turkey wow what a nightmare. So I went to doing it every other day because I am on the lowest dosage I am doing it like that right now, but once it get's to being almost 48 hours of not taking it I feel terrible. I am nauseas all day and get a head rush tingling in lips and hands. I have heart palpitations that are deblitating. This is so hard I don't know how I will ever be able to STOP.
Avatar f tn Your general doc is wrong, of course. This is why you see a psychiatrist. And my guess is, if these drugs are working, your problem very well may be depression, especially if wellbutrin worked -- it's one of the most stimulating of the antidepressants which is why it doesn't cause the weight gain that most antidepressants cause.
Avatar f tn I just recently got on Pristiq 50mg and have had a migraine everyday since. (10days). I initially started with 25mg and did not get any migraines. For about 10 years, I was on Zoloft and had about 8-12 migraine days a month. I got off it last year and my migraines went down to 1-3 a month. I had no idea the Zoloft was the cause until I discontinued it. Unfortunately my panic started coming back and I really need the antidepressant.
Avatar f tn I did Gene site testing and it told me Pristiq was the only pill that would work well for me so I’m taking that now. They also have me on BuSpar and believe that the BuSpar is giving me the rash they just told me to take an allergy pill. Had I known that I never would’ve complained about the rash, and been happier on Zoloft. But I never had the rash on my neck or face. Good luck. It took me about six weeks for any of the anti-depressants to get out of my system.
Avatar f tn I am just curious to hear about any personal experiences you may have had with Pristiq and/or Effexor. My doctor has been favoring Pristiq but with no real valid reasons why and when I researched the two, based on clinical findings, I'm not sure that Pristiq is really better than Effexor. Thoughts?
1460652 tn?1340248730 The reason I mentioned it is that the snri category, which Pristiq is part of, tend to be stimulating drugs because they target norepinephrine receptors as well as serotonin receptors, and the former is basically part of adrenaline. Depressed people tend to do well on something that gives them some up while anxiety sufferers tend to not do so well on it. We're all guinea pigs, because these drugs don't treat a cause -- we don't know the cause -- they only temper the symptoms.
Avatar f tn Some people do well on it, but for those that do not and still need an good SNRI, then I must suggest Pristiq which many have found to be supprisingly fast acting and very effective.
