Avatar n tn Ok guys, I'm on my fourth day of stopping hydro's (every two hours). I have a script for Pristiq..has anyone taken this antidepressant? I read too much and it states on drugs.com that side effects can be nausea (which I am totally suffering from), dizziness and scared to start taking it...have been diagnosed with PTSD, GAD and am a nervous wreck. Would starting Pristiq now cause even more uncomfortable stuff? Doctor does not know about hydro addiction which I stopped 4 days ago...
506273 tn?1260138781 (I never tried a lot of them). Pristiq is a newer upgraded version of it. So I am also taking 50 mg of Pristiq because it restored my sex drive after taking Effexor for many years. It has helped me tremendously with severe depression from my severe disabilities and pain following a major stroke. In my book, it is a miracle drug. But 400 mg is an extremely high dose. The normal dose is 50 mg, but you could possibly increase it to 100 mg IF it hasn't helped you at all after a month.
603543 tn?1255294450 Im trying to figure out the best time of day to take pristiq....when does everyone take it??? plus what dosage are you on, ive been on 50mg for almost a month and am still feeling sick and tired all the time and not any better...
Avatar n tn I went to the pdoc and told him I was interested in trying the new Pristiq, he said it was longer lasting, which is a good thing in my book, but he said thats all he knows about the drug, I was stunned he didnt know any other information!!! So he told me to just stop taking my Effexor xr of .75mg x 3 pills a day and start taking pristiq .
Avatar n tn Yes, definitely discuss this issue with your doc, as remar stated, and explain the situation. There are options for people who cannot afford their meds. Pristiq is fairly new on the market, so it's probably one of the more costly meds out there. I may be wrong, but I don't believe a generic version of Pristiq has been released to the market. Whatever you do, don't try to make changes yourself.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on pristiq and I am afraid to take it. I took Zoloft while pregnant and stopped about a month after my daughter was born. I felt good then. Then my gp put me on Lexapro and that zonked me out. Back to Zoloft again. I feel just like the depression commercials describe. I hate it. I just would like to know if anyone has been taking it and how you feel on it.
Avatar m tn Actually, Lexapro has no "maximum." 20mg is just the most studied by the manufacturer. Lexapro is basically another form of Celexa so the company could get another patent, but they do seem to affect people differently. I was on 30mg of Lexapro, but it didn't help and I actually got worse. So now I'm tapering off it to see if I can find something that works to undo what quitting Paxil did to me. It's the old medication carousel.
1087161 tn?1257467917 Thanks for the advice!! The pristiq is fairly new and I'm thinking about calling my dr and telling him to put me back on Lexapro that seemed to work before. I just went to Walgreens and got the Restful legs and my legs have finally relaxed...aaahhh! I really hope your right about feeling better soon this feeling *****! I tried to take a xanex to see if that would help and then I was just REALLY tired and anxious haha! This site is my only aftercare.
1450085 tn?1298941702 Pristiq and Effexor are essentially the same medication, so the switch should be relatively easy, and save you some money, too. I'm not sure I understand the switch, because Pristiq is the new Effexor, so if it isn't for financial reasons, kind of hard to see the point of going through it. Certainly some people have different reactions to them, and so just because Pristiq works also doesn't guarantee Effexor will work, and it might work better, who knows.
Avatar n tn Pristiq is ''the new Effexor'' it is normal that you are suffering from withdrawal symptoms as the chemical you get from Pristiq is not exactly the same as Effexor as it's a metabolite of Effexor. There is no miracle cure for withdrawal symptoms but since you are on Pristiq the withdrawal should not last long.
Avatar f tn I agree with you 100%,I've been on various meds over the years and none of them worked,.. Until I got a new doctor, he put me on pristiq,.. And the rest is history,.. I've been on it for a few months now, and it works great,.. It took a while to start working, but once it did,.... Wow,...
Avatar f tn If you're doing well on Effexor, I don't see any reason to switch. I've never been on Pristiq, but side effects when taking PRISTIQ 50 mg may include nausea, dizziness, sweating, constipation, and decreased appetite. In clinical studies of the recommended 50-mg dose, the percentage of people who stopped taking PRISTIQ due to side effects was similar to placebo (sugar pill).
1489588 tn?1303998295 I DO take Pristiq and Savella together and have been doing so for 2 1/2 years now. My new doctor said they were the same thing and that I should drop Pristiq, which I did for a while with awful results. I went back to the doctor and explained what had been happening since I went off of it. He immediately put me back on it and said that since it was working for me, he could find no research that said that it should not be done, just that it normally wasn't.
Avatar f tn ve recently been experiencing panic attacks. My Dr added Pristiq to my treatment. As I understand, Pristiq is a more purified form of Effexor. Since starting on the Pristiq two weeks ago, I have felt like pure poo poo. I went to a GP today, thinking I may have a virus or something. She said she would NEVER prescribe both Effexor and Pristiq together. I'm pretty confused on which doctor I'm supposed to believe. I'm going to try to stop the Pristiq, but am not sure what will happen.
Avatar m tn Just wondering if anyone has gone from Pristiq to Effexor. I am changing jobs and my new job doesn't cover Pristiq. I have been on it for 4 months and doing really really good on it. I am on 50 mg, and am sad that I will have to change meds. Effexor is available to me through my new job but I just don't know how similar they will be. let me know.
744415 tn?1243953376 I'm new to this forum and I wanted to say, "hello", but I also have a question and a few comments. I've been on several diff types of anxiety meds and just a few weeks ago my dr. put me on a new one b/c the Wellbutrin wasn't working for me. He put me on "Pristiq", he told me it is a newer anxiety med, but it's basically a spin-off of "Effexor". I didn't like the Effexor, but the Pristiq is working great!
Avatar f tn But I think this drug is more like an ssri than an snri, which is what effexor and pristiq are. Keep in mind effexor and pristiq are almost identical drugs, with pristiq just eliminating some of the molecules in order hopefully to reduce side effects but mostly to get new patent protection. It's like Celexa and Lexapro. This class of drugs is stimulating as it targets norepinephrine as well as serotonin, and is usually not used for primary anxiety as a result.
Avatar n tn Another alternative that I have found even more effective is Pristiq. It is made by the same company that makes Effexor and is almost identical in every way. I found relief with Effexor for several years, but now that I am taking Pristiq I have found it to be even more effective than Effexor. I like the Pristiq better because it seems to work faster and doesn't cause the constipation that Effexor can often cause.
759115 tn?1256997490 I ended up on 100Mgs a day with Pristiq and took it for a good 5 months, it worked ok, but not well enough to cover my symptoms. I then got off Pristiq. (I must tell you that the withdrawl from Pristiq is very strong. MUCH worse than even with Cymbalta or Effexor. My best results were with Effexor XR (a couple years before the Cymbalta and pristiq problem) Effexor XR just worked much better.
7650348 tn?1393006631 i have a question about pristiq. I tapered down off pristiq over a 4 month time frame. I took my last dose about 20 days ago. I was on it for about 2 years too long. Here is a little info: I started taking antidepressants about 3 years ago for anxiety and panic attacks. I had tried two in the past before that (Paxil and lexapro) i was a teen and it made me have what i know now is anxiety. I have a problem with change.
Avatar f tn Pristiq is kind of a funny SNRI. Remember it was released just before Effexor XR ended it's 7 year patent protection. Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Pristiq being Desvenlafaxine and Effexor being Venlafaxine. In fact if you look at the molecular chart for the two drugs they even bind the same. Funny thing is you know why Weith pharm released Pristiq?
1390847 tn?1344657468 I started taking medication around a year and 2 months ago. I have a very very severe phobia of throwing up and has caused my life to be waaaay too challenging. i Started taking Lexapro, that did not work...so I took Pristiq. For a couple months I called it my miracle drug becuase it seriously reduced my anxiety. Because I felt as if my anxiety was taken care of, I decided to tackle my depression problem but doubling my pristiq dosage and start taking Welbutrin.
Avatar f tn I called in to the doctor's office for a refill on my Pristiq. The doctor that prescribed my medication recently left the practice. I assume that is why the current physician will not see me until I come in. Today, we moved our patients to our brand new hospital- where I work. My schedule for the next few weeks is basically to work night and day. I am unable to go to a doctor's appointment right now. I cannot miss work.
Avatar f tn So I cold turkey stopped taking it again and I am now on my 3rd day of no Pristiq. This is the WORST feeling I have ever experienced in my life!!! I am having headaches that are continuous all day long, dizziness so bad that it keeps me from getting out of my bed, everytime I turn my head left or right it feels like I am hitting my head against the wall. I can even hear myself "blinking my eyes". Nausea is starting to set in now making me afraid to eat anything.
