is anyone taking pristiq? my depression is lingering on since my fathers death in sept.
the doc added abilify 1mg and i felt better. then i felt the depression slipping back. the abilify was increased to 5mg. but i developed serious side effects. so now i'm on pristiq 50mgs . i've been on lexapro 20mgs for about 5 years. the doc has me down to 10 mgs lexapro for 1 week then stop it completely.
my concers are. i know nothing about this med.
I have been on Pristiq for anxiety for 4 days and my Dr said to cut the pill in half bcus im so sensitive to meds. My question is that I looked on the Pristic website and it says it's for depression and im dealing with panic and agoraphobia. My question is will this help even tho its just for depression? Im just confused now!!
Have you ever been on an anti anxiety med before? I'm kind of surprised your Dr would have you on Pristiq alone for anxiety if you don't have depression. It's true that antidepressant meds can help with anxiety but Pristiq is usually prescribed along with an antidepressant if it's not helping much. Can you get in to see your Dr to talk about getting off the Pristiq and getting on an anti anxiety med?

For me, Pristiq worked wonders. It really depends on how your body handles the different meds and theres no way of knowing until you do the trial and error thing. Try and stay away from Xanax, Paxil, etc...those are hardcore meds and can lead to bad withdrawls. Lexapro and Pristiq arent that addicting. Talk to a psychiatrist...they are a therapist who is allowed to perscribe meds. They will be the most knowledgeable (more so than a regular doctor) and will be able to guide you better.
I was on sertraline for 3+ years but was switch to pristiq and began to take it today. I would like to know what to expect because I tend to panic when I experience any changes in my health. I have also been suffering from allergies for a week and a half and wonder if this will have any effects on the switch.
Hi Im a 28 yr old female just had a baby 4 months ago i started takin pristiq 50 mg in September because i fell into bad postpartum depression and suffered horrible anxiety my whole pregnancy.. After taking it I started feling okay I think it was more me wanting to feel better.
I came off Lexapro 20mg (was not working anymore) and my doctor put me on Pristiq 50mg and xanax. The pristiq is working good but after a couple of months now I am not so sure. I take the Xanax at night because it helps me sleep.
I am a 45 year old male and suffer from GAD and mild deppresion. Should I try something stronger or seek therapy or what? Has anyone else experienced this or on Pristiq? I feel like I am sputtering out here. Any help very much appreciated.
I have a script for Pristiq..has anyone taken this antidepressant? I read too much and it states on drugs.com that side effects can be nausea (which I am totally suffering from), dizziness and scared to start taking it...have been diagnosed with PTSD, GAD and am a nervous wreck. Would starting Pristiq now cause even more uncomfortable stuff? Doctor does not know about hydro addiction which I stopped 4 days ago...very proud of myself...but feel totally alone...no one in family knows.
Is this your first time being on meds for anxiety? Do you also have depression? They say it can take up to 6 weeks to start feeling better. The first few days are the hardest when starting any of these meds. What dose were you started on? If you are really feeling bad you can always ask your Dr to try you on something else. I can only give my personal opinion. If it were me, I would not start someone off on Effexor.
One thing is for sure, Effexor was a rough swith to a different med, but Pristiq OMG! The withdrawl from 100Mg of Pristiq was murder. 10 solid weeks of ultra bad withdrawl the likes of which I swear I didn't think I would recover from. I tapered as best I could but unlike Effexor you can't step down slow. 50Mg tabs only at that time.

I'm not familiar with the drug Pristiq. I'm assuming it was your doctor who
prescribed Pristiq for you. If it's not working for you, only your doctor can
help you wean off this drug safely. As with any drug prescribed by a doctor,
it is essential that you not stop this drug by yourself . That can be very
dangerous. My best advice is to go back to your famly doctor. Tell him
or her that you feel Pristiq is not working for you.
If you're doing well on Effexor, I don't see any reason to switch. I've never been on Pristiq, but side effects when taking PRISTIQ 50 mg may include nausea, dizziness, sweating, constipation, and decreased appetite.
In clinical studies of the recommended 50-mg dose, the percentage of people who stopped taking PRISTIQ due to side effects was similar to placebo (sugar pill).
Personally, yes, but that's just an opinion. I just don't think a stimulating med such as Pristiq is the way to go when anxiety is the primary problem. I certainly, if I were your psychiatrist, have gone with Lexapro way before giving up and experimenting with snris. But that's just me.
recently stopped taking ProzaC BECAUSE IT SEEMED TO LOOSE ITS EFFICACY..{oops} I'm a psych RN and noticed a lot of Pristiq being ordered. I thought I'd give it a go. It's been about 3 and1/2 wks. The regular G.I. probs have gone away. The bizaare side effect I now have is like a psychotic break. I cant talk because I cannot remember what I have said sentence to sentence. I become aware that I am rambling to the poor other person. I dont even remember what i have just said.
She told me to stop taking the effexor (which scared me, I know there are horrible withdrawl symptoms because I have experienced them when I would miss my meds.) She put me on Pristiq and Klonopin for when I have a panic attack. Yesterday I took the Pristiq and not the Effexor and when I need the Klonopin (I needed it twice) I took it. When I went to bed at night I was ok..I slept until 3am woke up for a little while and went back to sleep.
I give it a good 4 to 6 months and the Pristiq will also stop working for me, but when your as med resistant as me you take what you can get.
Interesting story: You know why Weith Pharm (makers of Effexor XR) came out with Pristiq? Well, Effexor XR was and is the worlds highest grossing (sales) antidepressant in history. It has earned Weith 3.5 Billion (not million) dollars in sales per year.
Just that one medication 3.5 BILLION!
Hey guys I've been on klonopin for like 9 months and pristiq...I take half of a tablet of klonopin in the morning and another half later in the day like @ 7 p.m....and then I take 2 pristiq pills at night be4 I sleep....so ever since christmas I haven't taken pristiq cuz my insurance doesn't cover it..
