I want to ween off Pristiq. I don't feel it is working for me, I have gained so much weight since I started taking Pristiq and have carb cravings when I did not before. I will be laid off at the end of next month and will no longer be able to afford the doctor visits or medication. I have been waiting for my Dr to get back with me and am looking for alternatives.
im currently taking pristig it is effxor a new version my doctor says since now effoxoer is noe becoming available as a generic he says it is the same thing just refined im not currently having any problems a few side effects at first but what ever u do take it at the same time dont forget it will make you sick im only taking 50 mg and i take it around 11 or 12 cause when it wears off it makes me nasaous but now im getting ready for bed and it usually does not get to bad anymore
I've been on Pristiq. My GP gave it to me. I've been on it for about 6 months and it's fine for me. It's most effective dose is 50mg, which is equivalant to 150mg Effexor XR I was told. My psychiatrist switched me to Effexor because he says they are the same and I am tapering off. I did NOT gain weight on Pristiq and I think the sexual side effects weren't as bad. I can tell the difference on Effexor.
I came off Lexapro 20mg (was not working anymore) and my doctor put me on Pristiq 50mg and xanax. The pristiq is working good but after a couple of months now I am not so sure. I take the Xanax at night because it helps me sleep.
I am a 45 year old male and suffer from GAD and mild deppresion. Should I try something stronger or seek therapy or what? Has anyone else experienced this or on Pristiq? I feel like I am sputtering out here. Any help very much appreciated.
I was concerned about the dosage and shortly after switching doctors I went off the Effexor and began taking Pristiq. I transitioned over a two week period. I began with 50mg and went to 100mg which I have taken for the last few months.
First off, I had no difficulty in going off Effexor. I have read that has been difficult for many others but apparently I was fortunate.
I have had zero negative effects from Pristiq. I can't say that it has had a significant impact on my condition.
First, did you taper slowly off the Pristiq first before switching to Cymbalta? If not, it could be a withdrawal symptom. Second, these are both stimulating antidepressants targeting norepinephrine as well as serotonin, and if you're not metabolizing the Cymbalta as well as you did the Pristiq you might be missing the artificial stimulation of adrenalin you get from this class of drugs.
When Norephinepherine depletion in the brain is a key contributor to your severe depression, Effexor and Pristiq can work wonders to getting you productive and back in remission.
There is a reason Effexor XR makes 3.5 Billion a year in sales per year.... Because it flat out WORKS many times for people that fail on SSRI's.
Sorry, but I must defend Effexor XR. Yes it can be a heavy hitter, but when the depression gets real bad it can often be just the ticket to remission.
I was on Effexor a few years ago and had a horrid time getting off. Now I am on Pristiq and I hope that when I eventually quit it won't be as bad. Pristiq has been working for me just as well as the Effexor did, if that is any help to you. I think my depression stems from physical issues, so drugs can only do so much for me, but it does take away the lows I tend to feel. Good luck with it.
There are ways to taper off pristiq using the (every other day method) should you decide to stop. The longer your on the drug the worse the withdrawl will be if you stop cold turkey. In my case I get antidepressant withdrawl from any antidepressant. Got it when stopping Lexapro, Zoloft, Remeron, Nortriptilyne, ect.. So this idea that the discontinuation withdrawl is somehow worse with drugs like Pristiq and Effexor that are SNRI's just doesn't hold water to me.
I have been taking the pristiq now for over 3 months, and this is the newest add to my list (klonipin next newest at a little over 4 months -- the rest have been years.) I have just recently started getting these odd shocky type feelings through my arms, legs, sides, neck ... I really don't know how to describe tem, it's not quite electrical, but it's a good analogy. sometimes it almost just feels as if I can physically feel my blood moving through my veins.
Actually, Lexapro has no "maximum." 20mg is just the most studied by the manufacturer. Lexapro is basically another form of Celexa so the company could get another patent, but they do seem to affect people differently. I was on 30mg of Lexapro, but it didn't help and I actually got worse. So now I'm tapering off it to see if I can find something that works to undo what quitting Paxil did to me. It's the old medication carousel.
Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Pristiq being Desvenlafaxine and Effexor being Venlafaxine. In fact if you look at the molecular chart for the two drugs they even bind the same.
Funny thing is you know why Weith pharm released Pristiq? (a drug much like Effexor) Because the 7 year patent on Effexor was close to an end and Weith didn't want to lose market share. In comes Pristiq (Name brand only for another 7 years)

n pristiq before bed...I suddenly stopped taking pristiq cuz I ran out n my phyciatrist doc office was closed..its beeen 2days now that I haven't taken pristiq..my head hurts bad it feels soar n my neck n ears hurt n eyes a bit..I also have a soar throat..could this b cuz im just stressing n stressing or because I stopped my medication pristiq?? I would like help plzz..im scared..
Thanks for your replies. Still don't want to take the Pristiq though....but this damn malaise and not wanting to do ANYTHING is killing me. Have young twins..gotta keep going. This really *****.
