Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq effects

pristiq

Avatar f tn If you're doing well on Effexor, I don't see any reason to switch. I've never been on Pristiq, but side effects when taking PRISTIQ 50 mg may include nausea, dizziness, sweating, constipation, and decreased appetite. In clinical studies of the recommended 50-mg dose, the percentage of people who stopped taking PRISTIQ due to side effects was similar to placebo (sugar pill).
6726276 tn?1421126668 m now on Pristiq which is Effexor metabolite. Pristiq is less side effects. Both may work differently. For me, Pristiq work better. Pristiq may also reduce sexual desire but not like Effexor. Also, it work differently from one to another. Google on Pristiq if it available where you live.
Avatar f tn Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
Avatar f tn I was on sertraline for 3+ years but was switch to pristiq and began to take it today. I would like to know what to expect because I tend to panic when I experience any changes in my health. I have also been suffering from allergies for a week and a half and wonder if this will have any effects on the switch.
Avatar n tn thanks but my dr says i have no choice but to stay on pristiq due to the side effects ,because of the anyurisms ,1 of the side effects are head aches which could cause the anyurisms to burst .
Avatar m tn This was in the hope that maybe I could reduce or get off Wellbutrin (memory problems) if the Pristiq did not cause sexual side effects. I have been on Pristiq for a month and a half now. The transition was seamless. Within two weeks, I was no longer clenching my jaw and stopped using the mouth guard. I am also seeing a lessening of the sexual side effects. I did not have any of the sweating or dry mouth, but that may be because I have been on an SNRI for awhile and my body was used to it.
Avatar m tn I was on Pristiq for about 5 months. I absolutely loved it when I was on it. I was a bit dizzy when I first started taking it, but that went away in no time. I am also on Wellbutrin. My therapist and group therapist find it funny when I talk about how much I love my medicine. I know it sounds weird but to see how I was before taking it and to see how I was just weeks after made a huge difference!
Avatar f tn Hi jethrosmom2784, I'm not familiar with the drug Pristiq. I'm assuming it was your doctor who prescribed Pristiq for you. If it's not working for you, only your doctor can help you wean off this drug safely. As with any drug prescribed by a doctor, it is essential that you not stop this drug by yourself . That can be very dangerous. My best advice is to go back to your famly doctor. Tell him or her that you feel Pristiq is not working for you.
Avatar f tn Five years ago, I took Zoloft for anxiety for 6 months. I remember feeling good on it, but the initial side effects and sexual side effects were awful. So, my new doc recommended an SNRI instead. I also have POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). This basically means that my autonomic nervous system does not function properly and my heart rate accelerates when I stand or stand for long periods of time.
Avatar f tn is anyone taking pristiq? my depression is lingering on since my fathers death in sept. the doc added abilify 1mg and i felt better. then i felt the depression slipping back. the abilify was increased to 5mg. but i developed serious side effects. so now i'm on pristiq 50mgs . i've been on lexapro 20mgs for about 5 years. the doc has me down to 10 mgs lexapro for 1 week then stop it completely. my concers are. i know nothing about this med.
603543 tn?1255294450 I found taking Pristiq with a big glass of water in the morning before eating worked the best. Although almost 3 months in im going to the doctors to find out options of what i can change to. My biggest self esteem issue is my weight & in the 3 months ive been on Pristiq i have watched what i ate & even started working out 5-6 days a week & ive climbed another 6kgs. I dont need it! Otherwise Pristiq worked beautifully (as long as you dont forget to take it).
1450085 tn?1298941702 hey everyone, today my psychiatrist switched me from 50mg of Pristiq to 37.5mg of Effexor XR, he said the 50mg of Pristiq was too much, anyone ever done this switch or have experiences on the 37.5mg of Effexor?
Avatar m tn My doctor has switched my medication from effexor to pristiq and I'm wondering about the withdrawals I'm going to experience ?I was on effexor for about 2 yrs . I also deal with sleep apnea and started using a mouth piece for it . I'm experiencing extreme fatigue more than usual .I don't know if this is a result from switching medications ? If u can me with this I'd really be grateful thanks !
759115 tn?1256997490 I ended up on 100Mgs a day with Pristiq and took it for a good 5 months, it worked ok, but not well enough to cover my symptoms. I then got off Pristiq. (I must tell you that the withdrawl from Pristiq is very strong. MUCH worse than even with Cymbalta or Effexor. My best results were with Effexor XR (a couple years before the Cymbalta and pristiq problem) Effexor XR just worked much better.
Avatar n tn i have been taking Pristiq for a week and my period is late is this common?
Avatar f tn ve recently been experiencing panic attacks. My Dr added Pristiq to my treatment. As I understand, Pristiq is a more purified form of Effexor. Since starting on the Pristiq two weeks ago, I have felt like pure poo poo. I went to a GP today, thinking I may have a virus or something. She said she would NEVER prescribe both Effexor and Pristiq together. I'm pretty confused on which doctor I'm supposed to believe. I'm going to try to stop the Pristiq, but am not sure what will happen.
455167 tn?1259257871 Hello. My therapist has suggested changing from effexor xr to the chemically similar pristiq. I've been on 150mg per day of effexor for several years, and have experienced withdrawal effects before due to missing doses for a few days, so I know what that's like. To start, I'm taking 50mg pristiq and 75 mg effexor daily for 7 days, and then 50mg pristiq and 37.5mg effexor for the next 7 days. My therapist has suggested this dosing to make the transition gradual.
Avatar n tn I have a script for Pristiq..has anyone taken this antidepressant? I read too much and it states on drugs.com that side effects can be nausea (which I am totally suffering from), dizziness and scared to start taking it...have been diagnosed with PTSD, GAD and am a nervous wreck. Would starting Pristiq now cause even more uncomfortable stuff? Doctor does not know about hydro addiction which I stopped 4 days ago...very proud of myself...but feel totally alone...no one in family knows.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin is an energizing antidepressant that can increase anxiety and actually cause panic attacks in some people. Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.
Avatar m tn They are almost the same drug. Pristiq is Effexor with some of it cut out. That supposedly makes it have fewer side effects and be a little easier to stop taking, but that usually doesn't turn out to be all that true. The same was done with Celexa to create Lexapro. That makes the change pretty easy. But they can feel quite different in how they effect you, even though they are quite similar, so be on the alert for that.
7650348 tn?1393006631 i have a question about pristiq. I tapered down off pristiq over a 4 month time frame. I took my last dose about 20 days ago. I was on it for about 2 years too long. Here is a little info: I started taking antidepressants about 3 years ago for anxiety and panic attacks. I had tried two in the past before that (Paxil and lexapro) i was a teen and it made me have what i know now is anxiety. I have a problem with change.
744415 tn?1243953376 I'm new to this forum and I wanted to say, "hello", but I also have a question and a few comments. I've been on several diff types of anxiety meds and just a few weeks ago my dr. put me on a new one b/c the Wellbutrin wasn't working for me. He put me on "Pristiq", he told me it is a newer anxiety med, but it's basically a spin-off of "Effexor". I didn't like the Effexor, but the Pristiq is working great!
Avatar n tn They have the same active metobolite (which is thought to have the beneficial effects) but Pristiq has succinate salt added to it which allows for a predictable concentration of the medication. What all this means is that most patients will be able to stay at the starting dose of 50 mg with very good results. There have been very low incidences of side effects, little to no weight gain and sexual side effecfts don't seem to be an issue either.
