Pristiq side effects withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq side effects withdrawal

pristiq

Avatar n tn If you keep feeling bad though you need to get back in to see your Dr. Side effects can last a good week or so, usually. And then it starts getting better.
Avatar m tn s such a similar drug by the same manufacturer. Perhaps it was to reduce side effects? As for withdrawal, theoretically, since the drugs are so similar, it should be easier to switch between them than between other drugs, but one should still taper slowly off effexor as it's known to be one of the most difficult to stop taking, so slow is best (Pristiq is also difficult, as is this whole class of medication).
Avatar n tn Hi- I am currently withdrawing from Effexor, which I was given to taper off Pristiq. Because Pristiq comes in the 50mg dose, there is no good way to come off it. It is essentially the same as Effexor, which is notoriously hard to withdraw from. My psych said that 50mg of Pristiq=150mg of Effexor. If you jumped from this dose or higher, I would expect to have withdrawal for at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. At least you will probably have depression and anxiety.
Avatar m tn d start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is. I'd also taper slowly off the drug I'm on before starting a new one, especially one of a different class, so I could tell what effects were withdrawal off the old med and which were side effects of the new med.
Avatar n tn Effexor makes it even worse. So the doctor changed me to Pristiq and said side effects will not be as bad as with Effexor. After taking it for 1 month I kept eating and gaining weight. And my menstrual cycle went crazy (one and a half months thinking I started an early menopause!). So I panicked and stopped Pristiq, but next day felt the horrible withdrawal effects (dizziness and nausea that kept me in bed). Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished.
Avatar f tn Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
7650348 tn?1393006631 d wait to come off the alprazoloam, also very difficult to stop taking, until all withdrawal from the Pristiq stops, and if you find the withdrawal too much for you, protocols call for going back on the last dose at which you felt fine and try it slower. You might try taking a hefty daily dose of fish oil -- many claim it helps with brain zaps, though it won't do much for the anxiety.
Avatar f tn ve had to wean off of other antidepressants to keep from going through withdrawal. The symptoms your having could very well be side effects from this med. Usually side effects happen in the beginning but they can happen at any time. Hopefully someone that has experience with this med can give you better advice. Hang in there though. If you feel like you need an antidepressant you have others to choose from that might work great for you.
1450085 tn?1298941702 effexor has been great for me. dont get scared off by side effects.
Avatar f tn You have to look at anxiety as being like any other medical condition requiring daily medication to control the symptoms and not dwell on any side effects. These are the only medications we get so hung up on the side effects with. If you were diagnosed with another condition like Diabetes...you wouldn't worry about the medication needed to control it and this is no different! None of us want to take medication but for many...
3215224 tn?1345829226 Break up the pills to go more slowly off of it. I looked up side effects on-line, but only saw that caffeine withdrawal is very real — producing enough physical symptoms and a disruption in daily life to classify it as a psychiatric disorder. Not sure if it's true, but with any medication, going as slow as possible is the best. With you in menopause, there are a lot of possible symptoms just from that. How long have you been taking Pristiq? Did your symptoms started with taking that?
Avatar f tn First morning, I had little nausea for an hour but didint have really side effects. But I have extrasystoles everyday since. I had that with effexor and pristiq in the past. My doc told me brintelix wouldnt be suppose to give me that when she prescribed it to me. So im asking, could this be cause by the new med or from the quitting of zoloft! Im scared to make an heart attack or something! I just dont kow what to do cause it scares me a lot!
Avatar m tn My only complaint with Pristiq is that at 100Mgs a day dosage I have sexual side effects from it. I am male and it has reduced my sex drive by about 50% which I hate. The side effects of stopping Pristiq are much the same as with Effexor. They can be rough as I once ran out for two days and had withdrawls.
Avatar f tn All of these drugs come with many side effects -- some suffer more, some less, but all drugs have side effects. They are very powerful and alter the way the body functions naturally, so naturally they throw some things out of balance. How much depends on the person. General docs just don't know this stuff that well as they don't receive specialized training in it.
Avatar n tn ve had this happen with two antidepressants, Prozac and Zoloft -- no side effects, no effects. Not absorption. Got some side effects and some effects from the four other ones I've taken, proving absorption. And if you do have a thyroid problem, that is very possibly the source of your anxiety problem in the first place -- until that's fixed how can you know it isn't your whole problem? But to know that, you need a proper diagnosis, which you haven't gotten yet.
Avatar n tn But did you wean off of it as you introduced the Pristiq? If not you may be having with withdrawal from the Prozac combined with the side effects of starting a new medication. Or it may just be that Pristiq is not for you. Talk to your doctor about these side effects, they're pretty scary and you need to know what to do at this point where medication is concerned. What works for one may not for another. I wish you all the best with this.
606378 tn?1297304964 I had a horrible experience with Pristiq. I would suggest that if you do decide to take it that you become aware of all the possible side effects and if you begin to have any side effects, contact your doctor right away. I took Pristiq for about 3 1/2 weeks. My doctor did not warn me of possible side effects and I didn't read about possible side effects early on. At first, I didn't notice anything unusual. I actually thought the drug might be helping a little.
407790 tn?1397761026 My doctor just put me on Abilify, which I'm not very happy about considering the side effects. However, I have treatment-resistant depression so I'm running out of options. I will be taking a very low dose, though: 2.5 mg. Does anyone know if you're less likely to get side effects if you're on a low dose? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
1390847 tn?1344657468 For those clients I have worked with who have experienced some of these side effects, the majority reported that the side effects went away on their own after a few weeks. Withdrawal symptoms should not be a major problem. Another positive of Wellbutrin is that compared to other antidepressants, it tends to not cause any sexual side effects.
Avatar f tn But because you started a new drug, some of this could be side effects of the new drug and some could be withdrawal effects from the old one, or all the effects could be withdrawal or all could be from the new drug. You have no way of knowing, as your brain is essentially trying to recover from one drug while trying to learn how to work with the other at the same time. Not easy to do.
Avatar f tn If you're doing well on Effexor, I don't see any reason to switch. I've never been on Pristiq, but side effects when taking PRISTIQ 50 mg may include nausea, dizziness, sweating, constipation, and decreased appetite. In clinical studies of the recommended 50-mg dose, the percentage of people who stopped taking PRISTIQ due to side effects was similar to placebo (sugar pill).
Avatar m tn Hello all, I hope I can get some support thru this forum. Here's my story. I've always suffered from anxiety from time to time growing up. Had my first encounter with anxiety when I was 18 and I'm now 29. I've tken antidepressants a couple of times during this time period. About early december 2009, I decided to try Pristiq for my anxiety since I had already taken effexor for 2 years few years ago and it supposed to be very similar.

6726276 tn?1421126668 m now on Pristiq which is Effexor metabolite. Pristiq is less side effects. Both may work differently. For me, Pristiq work better. Pristiq may also reduce sexual desire but not like Effexor. Also, it work differently from one to another. Google on Pristiq if it available where you live.
Avatar m tn I doubt that's a worry at your current levels. Your Zoloft dose is very low. Psychiatrists have many different ways of tapering someone off of meds to avoid withdrawal. I'm not a fan of the approach your doctor is taking -- when you're quitting one med while starting another, it's impossible to tell if side effects are from withdrawal or from the new med.
