I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.

She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.

I have been on lo loestrin fe for the past 4 months. This past month I had breakthrough bleeding. I've been told that breakthrough bleeding means that I am not protected anymore, but does that mean that my pills were not working for the entire month prior to breakthrough or just the time after that? I am experiencing breakthrough bleeding on ortho tri cyclen, between days 11 and 14 in my BC pack. The doctor syas it happens and it is only annoying but I really would like to not have to endure three or four days of breakthrough bleeding or spotting every month. It is messy and not very pleasant during inter course. What other pill combination would lessen this? I am open to a type and dose that will stop this.
I liked it better then Loestrin, since while on Loestrin I had breakthrough bleeding every single day. (So annoying.)
But even with Femcon, I had breakthrough during the third week, but I was reading that a lot of women get breakthrough bleeding during the first couple of months.
