Common Questions and Answers about Pregabalin studies

lyrica

Avatar f tn Studies showed that the drug made male animals less fertile. Also, birth defects occurred in the offspring of male animals who were treated with pregabalin. The plus side is that there are other medications that can be used in place of Lyrica to treat certain issues. I would encourage your future son in law to explore other options if possible.
Avatar f tn He/she would know that men being treated with LYRICA who plan to father a child should be informed of the potential risk of male-mediated teratogenicity. In preclinical studies in rats, pregabalin was associated with an increased risk of male-mediated teratogenicity. The clinical significance of this finding is uncertain.
Avatar f tn ve had a look through PubMed database to see if there have been scientific studies specifically on the question of tolerance, but without joy. As far as I can tell, the main assumption/claim is that because pregabalin is not known to be metabolically active (ie, the liver and body don't metabolise it into other molecules) the patient shouldn't develop tolerance. I am now a bit more sceptical of that claim.
1664023 tn?1302961166 Hi there. One of the various side effects of pregabalin or lyrica is increased blood creatinine levels, which can be a sign of muscle injury, and there have been studies to prove severe muscle injury or rhabdomyolysis in few patients taking this medicine. Hence, you need to report to your neurologist if you are experiencing unexplained muscle pain or weakness. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn An electromyelogram (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) may be helpful tests to confirm a diagnosis, although not always necessary. You would likely benefit from an appointment with a neurologist who can further localize the problem and provide you with treatment options. Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first.
Avatar f tn Hair loss (known medically as alopecia) is a rare side effect of Lyrica® (pregabalin). In previous clinical studies, between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people taking Lyrica experienced hair loss. The exact percentage of people who developed hair loss while taking Lyrica was not reported. Because hair loss is so common in the general public, it is difficult to say whether hair loss is caused by Lyrica, genetics, other factors, or a combination of these things.

1722607 tn?1335747858 I have been given 5 studies to choose from. They are all different and Im feeling a little overwhelmed. How should I choose? What questions should I ask?

Avatar f tn I am using both gabapentin and pregabalin. Pregabalin gave me some fairly major side effects, some fading within a few doses, others lingering for weeks and a few for the first year! The fatigue and word forgetfulness were the longest lasting side effects, but given the impact of pain at the time, I chose to stick it out for quite a while. Weight gain was another concern.
Avatar m tn I'm 21 and male. I was having arm pains which was caused by neck pain for bad posture on computer desk. So I went to the GP (general medicine) and he said the pain is for the neck, and it will go away and asked me to do some static neck exercise and swimming and prescribed 'Pregabalin m-75' to take for 1 month and stop.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Hi i wondered if anyone could explain there experience of Pregabalin (Lyrica?) i have been on Gabapentin for the last 3 months with only a little success (the twitches have reduced considerably) but no relief pain. Now the Dr is going to swap me to Pregabalin which has to be done slowly to switch from one to the other, so this will start as soon as I'm home from holiday. I wondered if anyone had done this and what there experience of the drugs are?
Avatar m tn no it is not arthritis.....my question is....what will happen if she combines the methadone and the pregabalin?...she takes methadone about every other day...a bottle of 130mg methadone will last her almost 5 to 6 days....any info would be helpful.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Anyway just before we went, I had an dr. appointment. In short he is changing the Gabapentin to Pregabalin which he is asking my GP to over see when I'd returned from holiday. Also did a blood test for sarcoid, as I have had eye problems, he felt this was unlikley but wanted the test done. If that is negative he is refering me to a specialist for botox which will help the TN pain. So I have returned to find a letter from my GP to go and see him as soon as I return from holiday.
Avatar m tn John, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum has written a book about treating pain, and this article taken from the book may be helpful to you: Effective Treatment for Neuropathic (Nerve) Pain http://www.ei-resource.org/expert-columns/dr.-jacob-teitelbaums-column/effective-treatment-for-neuropathic-pain/ If that url doesn't work, you can google for the title and author. Also, you can look at Amazon for his books, and read the reviews.
901222 tn?1399142874 Lyrica (pregabalin) is a GABA analogue, similar to Neurontin (gabapentin). Even though pregabalin is approved for The results are still out on whether or not people suffer neurological dependance on this medication. People using high doses of pregabalin (> 1000 mg/day) report problems stopping this medication. My attitude about certain reported side-effects, like weight gain, is that I'll never know what they'll do to me until I try.
3122908 tn?1342154651 I can guarantee not only will your pain come back, but you will so miserable! I take its cousin, pregabalin, for nerve pain in my back, and occasionally I run low on them and you would not believe how many aches and pains a person really has until they quit a drug to help all that. It is a fairly mild drug, however, so it's not like you won't be able to function, you just won't be a happy camper.
983008 tn?1329925830 t spoken to my Dr yet as the surgery has been shut over Xmas and I did expect evrything to calm down since increasing the Pregabalin, am currently visiting my lovely stepdaughter for a few days (sitting with my feet up and playing with her laptop) I am seeing my neuro in a few weeks but am wondering if I should visit my Dr again as at this rate I doubt I will be back to work next week - the Hospital did mention putting me on a steroid drip and then changed their minds - is this the way forward?
Avatar f tn I have recently seen my Neurologist, who has confirmed I am suffering with Anxiety and has suggested I go on a drug called Pregabalin and he has said it will help my sleep problem. My question is has anyone had any experiences with this drug, if so comments very welcome.
Avatar f tn In the last 4/5 weeks I have experienced face pain, which is a completely new symptom, but still my neuro will not budge on her diagnosis, although has suggested I go on to Pregabalin and am seeing my Doctor on Monday about this. I have buzzing feet/pins and needles, burning mouth, face pain, burning sensations all over my body like stabbing pains, I keep forgetting where I put things, and have difficulty recalling words when speaking.
Avatar m tn So my GP prescribed me static neck exercise, swimming and prescribed to take Pregabalin-M 75 (Pregabalin-Methylcobalamine tablets 75mg) For 1 month and then stop. I took 5 doses yet. But I'm having this following side-effects - dizziness, sleepiness whole day, lack of interest and and concentration, bad mood, sexually charged dreams, erection problem and lack of libido or interest in sexual desire. I have a high libido by default. But I'm not feeling it since I took the medicines.
1253197 tn?1331209110 I was on 1800mg a day and put on a stone over 4 months! I have now swapped to pregabalin and I am beginning to lose the weight. I changed drug because the Gabapentin was not controling my symptoms enough nothing to do with the weight gain, I am now on 400mg of Pregabalin and I am try to lose the weight I have gained so far I have lost half a stone in about three weeks. I know that there are many people who feel that Pregabalin also makes them put on weight.
Avatar m tn I was wondering, I was diagnosed as having generalised anxiety disorder following a major breakdown (no surprise there then!!) and after many drugs, ended up on pregabalin (600mg per day). This stabilised my anxiety, but now can't seem to feel a thing emotionally, not even my kids and other family members and friends. The problem is, I have been on it for a few years now and am wondering is it the pregabalin, or is it a result of actually having an underlying anxiety condition?
