Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.
Avatar m tn There seems to be conflicting information out there regarding how metoprolol (and selective beta blockers) effect potassium levels in the blood... I know that non-selective BB can raise levels, but not sure how selective BB effect potassium levels. The reason I ask is that I like to have a high-potassium diet to control my palpitations, but wonder if I need to be careful how much I intake...

Avatar f tn s rarely caused by a lack of potassium in the diet. Hypokalemia can be life-threatening and should always be treated by a doctor. Connection with blood pressure is not conclusive but there is some evidence it may lower blood pressure. Hope this provides some insight into the questions you have asked. Thanks for the question, and if you have any further question or comments you are invited to respond. Take care.
Avatar n tn I've been told I should increase my electrolyte intake. I've done so but am still having problems. I'm wondering if it's because of the type of electrolytes I've been using, mainly potassium citrate and magnesium citrate. I'm mainly interested in the best electrolytes for neural and brain health and was wondering if someone could suggest me some. I'm kind of interested in magnesium chloride.
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
Avatar n tn My doctor thought nothing of it, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here for a second opinion. Can anybody tell me HOW abnormal the following values are: Sodium: 133mmol/L (normal 135-145) Potassium: 3.2mmol/L (normal 3.5-5.0) Chloride: 96mmol/L (normal 101-111) Are my levels abnormally low to the point they should be corrected? Would my levels cause symptoms? The reason I ask is, I do have muscle ache issues, dizziness, and general fatigue.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Salad binge?! I eat salads every day. LOL! But I'm highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it.
Avatar f tn You may want to get your blood electrolytes take (sodium , potassium, chloride and CO2) to see if you have a imbalance of these. You can also drink gatoraide and a banana to try to increase your potassium.
Avatar n tn Potassium and Calcium and important electrolytes in muscles. Potassium is one of those electrolytes you dont really want to be messed up in your body. High potassium levels can cause heart dysrrhythmias, since your heart is a big muscle, Other signs of hyperkalemia(increased potassium) are nausea vomitting, restlessness, irritability, I am looking in my book right now to make sure i can give you the most accurate information. Chloride there is not much on.
Avatar n tn Whatever you do not let anyone perform the Potassium Chloride test (KCl test) because this test is only 70% reliable. Plus if you do react to potassium chloride (that is one of the theories) then it will be a very painful test. I was on the 30% who came out neg luckily my doctor (another doctor than the one who ordered the KCl did not go by the results but by my symptoms when he decided to the cystoscopy with hydro-distention.
Avatar n tn Liberal use of salt substitutes that contain potassium chloride can add to the potassium load. Liberal use of these products in people with kidney disease can cause dangerously high levels of potassium to build in the bloodstream.
12850046 tn?1427502279 I'm not a vegetarian but I will try the Magnesium Oil treatment. The potassium level may be the problem. I'm not exactly one to have a "balanced diet". I'll try that before I do the oil treatment.

We don't have a definite diagnosis on the composition yet, but the vet believes they are the calcium oxalate type. Until we know for sure, she wants to put her on a RX diet - Royal Canin S/O, which offers support for all types of stones by controlling the minerals in the food.
Avatar f tn A bit of history on me. I am 36 years old, have had bulimia since I was 17, doctors and family have only known since 2006 when I was hospitalized. I have some cardiac damage from purging and use of laxatives, diuretics & ipecac.
Avatar m tn After that event I get arrhythmia time to time, accompanying with nerve impulses travelling accross the chest. In hospital doctors usually detect potassium level in blood 3.8. Basing on that doctors infused potassium chloride and I take additinally potassium supplements. Recently I noticed that when Arrhythmia occurs, I heal it not with potassium restore, but with neck streching up. When I stretch the neck up, arrhythmia dissapears even before infusion of potassium chloride.
Avatar f tn I know how irritating the extra/missing beats can be! and unfortunately by worrying about it, you feed your heart adrenalin and that makes it 10 times worse! Avoid coffee and caffeine and add a banana per day, to your diet! banana's are high in potassium and it is good for your heart.
