Avatar n tn what is the difference between Potassium Chloride, Potassium Nitrate and Potassium Citrate?
Avatar m tn The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium. This means that if I am willing to take 20 of these cheap little pills a day to get my 2000mg (2g) of potassium that is just fine. I don’t need to buy relatively expensive potassium chloride. Is this true?
1118724 tn?1357010591 Hi there - I have the same question about the salt substitute becase I read that it needs to be approved by your dr before you use it. I have cirrhosis and have had to really watchh my salt. I'm going to do that on Feb 1st. I had ascites and I have trouble keeping the fluid down in my legs from the calf down and I know there is still some fluid in the abdomen but I don't look pregnant anymore. Back to the salt substitute.
1500525 tn?1458529998 Hi, I'm 43 & in hospice bcuz of CHF. Lately, I haven't been able to hold anything down. I'm not dehydrated (IV in the arm) but I'm extremely thirsty, and it seems nothing quenches my thirst after I take a drink I actually feel more thirsty. And when my mouth gets so dry like extremely dry, I get nausea, dry heave, then up comes bile ( the same thing is happening out the other end & same color/no smell I am told) I'm guessing that's bile too.

Avatar n tn I've been told I should increase my electrolyte intake. I've done so but am still having problems. I'm wondering if it's because of the type of electrolytes I've been using, mainly potassium citrate and magnesium citrate. I'm mainly interested in the best electrolytes for neural and brain health and was wondering if someone could suggest me some. I'm kind of interested in magnesium chloride.
471949 tn?1236904026 s office, ask to see if you can have your blood work done and for the doctor to look out for your BNP level (a marker indicator for CHF). An elevated level can be an indication for CHF. Usually the doc might prescribe some kind of diuretic med along with blood pressure meds to help with CHF. A common diuretic med to help get rid of excess fluid is furosemide, otherwise know as Lasix. However, diuretic pills should be prescribe by your docs. Best of luck and stay positive.

456906 tn?1208569831 Too much potassium can be bad for anybody...they actually use potassium chloride in HIGH concentration for lethal injection. They use the same thing in IV's in low doses to keep people hydrated in the hospital. Too much of anything can be bad. I think it would be VERY difficult to bring yourself to the point where you had too much potassium.

Avatar f tn As a CHF patient, I of course weight daily. Was just recently put on Lasix in past week because of problems with fluid in lungs, and have been taking it religiously every day. My weight is the same, but I can't take as deep of a breath as yesterday, I'm slightly wheezing, and I can feel fluid come out of my throat with every little cough. This feels exactly how it felt when I was first diagnosed with CHF a month ago.

Does she have blood work frequently to test the Coumadin? When people get into their 90's, sometimes their blood does not clot as it should or as it did before. It helps. when you spray it on, it goes thru the skin to your blood to the cells where its needed .. 94% of the population accdg. to studies is low on Magnesium, this is one way to get your supplementation. There is no overdose on Mg spray, your body will only absorb what it needs.
