Common Questions and Answers about Potassium chloride electrolyte

Avatar n tn High potassium levels can cause heart dysrrhythmias, since your heart is a big muscle, Other signs of hyperkalemia(increased potassium) are nausea vomitting, restlessness, irritability, I am looking in my book right now to make sure i can give you the most accurate information. Chloride there is not much on. that electrolyte just does not have the effects that other imbalances have. But did the doctor treat her potassium level? or do you know what it was?
Avatar f tn In physiology, the primary ions of electrolytes are sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (Cl−), hydrogen phosphate (HPO42−), and hydrogen carbonate (HCO3−). The electric charge symbols of plus (+) and minus (−) indicate that the substance in question is ionic in nature and has an imbalanced distribution of electrons, the result of chemical dissociation".
Avatar m tn I can't find the source of my information but I remember reading that metoprolol is potassium sparing drug - meaning it doesn't cause potassium levels to drop. I don't believe that consuming fruit with a high K diet alone would raise K values to the point of side effects. At the moment I am more interested in the magnesium deficiency/arrhythmia information that I have read about. There seems to be something to that side of the electrolyte balance.
Avatar n tn All of your values are a bit low, but the potassium is of most concern. Low levels of potassium, an electrolyte, can cause many symptoms: * Muscle cramps/aches * Fatigue, malaise and intermittent dizziness * Abnormal heart rhythms if the deficiency is not corrected (known medically as arrhythmia) Your symptoms could be due to lower than normal potassium and sodium. I advise seeing that same MD for follow up.
Avatar f tn This looks like electrolyte imbalance involving sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride. Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 deficiency should also be looked into. You may need to run blood tests for the above mentioned deficiencies. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I am a 35 year old woman. I have dealt with "skipped heartbeats" occasionally since I was about 20. But the last week has been HORRIBLE! It's so bad at night that I can't sleep, convinced I'm gonna die. I also have major shortness of breath. Went to the doctor yesterday and mentioned I've been taking a lot of potassium lately "for my health" she said I was killing myself! Apparently potassium can increase dis/arrhythmia if you're already prone to them.
Avatar m tn Potassium Citrate. Magnesium Citrate or Chloride. Sodium Citrate. Sea Salt. Electrolyte balancers such as Pedialyte.
Avatar f tn A bit of history on me. I am 36 years old, have had bulimia since I was 17, doctors and family have only known since 2006 when I was hospitalized. I have some cardiac damage from purging and use of laxatives, diuretics & ipecac.
Avatar n tn what is the difference between Potassium Chloride, Potassium Nitrate and Potassium Citrate?
1823499 tn?1370090289 People with bladder problems related to CM who experience severe fluid loss may show an increase in potassium, sodium, and chloride. Some forms of muscle and nerve problems may also have one or more abnormal electrolytes.
Avatar m tn Electrolytes are salts that conduct electricity and are found in the body fluid, tissue, and blood. Examples are chloride, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. Sodium is concentrated in the extracellular fluid and potassium is concentrated in the intracellular fluid. Proper balance is essential for muscle coordination, heart function, fluid absorption and excretion, nerve function, and concentration.
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it. 941118 tn?1312281926 I agree about the electrolyte imbalance causing irregular rythmns... even when my potassium is LOW normal.. i can tell.. I do take the magnesium calm.. I also drink beet/celery/carrot juice which has alot of potassium in it... plus.. I also have calcium vitamin D chews daily.. i try to drink water.. and stay hydrated.. for some.. thats just how it has to be... I also make sure that i get enough sodium.. because i have a very healthy diet that does not include alot of salt..

Avatar f tn Potassium is used to maintain a balance between chemical and electrical reactions in the body, potassium being an electrolyte. Excess Potassium is removed from the body by the Kidneys and so this would be a starting point. The Hormone aldosterone controls the rate at which the kidneys remove potassium, water and sodium from the blood and this hormone is a steriod type produced in the adrenal gland. Some medications as a side effect act as a aldosterone inhibitor.
