1580703 tn?1651904887 Hello and hope you are doing well. The normal range of potassium is 3.5-5.2 mmol/L. Increase in potassium level (> 6.5 mmol/L) is considered a clinical emergency because it is associated with high risk of cardiac arrhythmia and, ultimately, cardiac arrest. If plasma potassium is > 8.5 mmol/L, it will inevitably lead to lethal cardiac arrest. So, it is not possible to have a value of 15. Please recheck the values. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Mild hypokalemia could be treated with oral potassium chloride supplements and nutritional supplements like bananas, oranges, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables etc. The tachycardia at night is most likely due to anxiety and stress of an upcoming cardiologist appointment. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Insurance company has refused to pay for genetic blood test for Long QT due to her age (usually diagnosed much earlier) and not having a sudden cardiac arrest herself. My older sister's insurance company has refused to pay for her ICD (done at out of network hospital) leaving her with a $90,000 debt. So our family will never know if Long QT is the cause of so much early death (in 50's) in our family. Where does that leave me (age 58)?
Avatar f tn a couple of weeks ago and he looked at the echo that was taken after the arrest and said her heart looked fine and the reason for her cardiac arrest was not because of her heart. He ordered a stress echo and halt monitor. When she went for the stress test the cardiologist said that her mitral valve has become severe and needs replacement. I need to know anything and everything about this if possible.
Avatar n tn Before I found out that I had 5 noduals and 2 having cancer cells as well as hypothyroidisum i was crashin all the time like that only to find out that my potassium was at a level that was almost at cardiac arrest level. a good level is 4.0-5 where the dr likes to keep it to but mine likes to run 3.3 - 2.8 cardiac arrest is 2.6 - 2.
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
Avatar f tn We know the electrolyte is needed to regulate neuromuscular activity of the skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle. So, when the potassium level becomes low, it results in muscle malfunction and muscle twitchings, and you have experienced muscle crapms. Low Potassium can also cause the heart contracts prematurely.... muscles that assist in breathing become weak and lead to respiratory arrest. The kidneys become unable to concentrate urine and this leads to excessive urination and thirst.
Avatar n tn what is the difference between Potassium Chloride, Potassium Nitrate and Potassium Citrate?
Avatar m tn My wife and I have a low potassium diet and need to supplement with 1.5g to 2.5g per day depending on how active we are and how much milk we drink for added protein. We are getting a lot of contradictory info about potassium supplementation products. We have been told by a PA and MD that that we are wasting our time taking OTC potassium gluconate because it is not being absorbed. Online comments often repeat the same message.
Avatar m tn How long does it take for someone to go unconscious during cardiac arrrest? And can the heart be "reset" back to normal if the person hits their chest before going unconscious?
Avatar m tn t know if I would go so far as to say you are going into cardiac arrest the fact that you are sensing a long pause of some sort needs to be investigated. Please visit your doctor to get reevaluated. If you do not have any other troubling symptoms that may be a good sign you have nothing to worry about but please do go get checked out, a doctor really needs to make that call. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn then they said they were successful in bringing the heart at normal rate and wanted to observe him for around one night and that night went terribly horrifying leading to failure of kidney and many organs and BP went too low ,cardiac arrest grab him again and he is no more ! They told no problems with stent placement , no infection , level of potassium and sodium at normal count ! We even neglected to ask the precise reason becz of the demise of my lovely dad !
1118724 tn?1357010591 But elevated as well as too low potassium can be bad for the heart and cause arrhythmia. Potassium chloride should not be taken with some blood pressure medications such as losartan, lisinopril, and some others. Are you on any medication? If yes, write them here and I will try to check for you if they are OK to take with potassium chloride.
Avatar n tn Many cardiac patients experience cardiac arrest and are successfully resuscitated. Generally the heart goes into ventricular fibrillation and is converted to a normal rhythym by means of an electrical pulse from a defibrillator. Unresolved cardiac arrest is essentially death.
Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.
Avatar f tn Hi! Thanks for responding. I am using the OV watch and was just wondering if there is a "loop hole" in this technology. Meaning to say that just because the watch is reading the chloride activity and indicating so on the watch, could I assume I was ovulating as well. Guess I'm just tired of disappointment. This is the first month I have used the watch and it has indicated Fertile Day one-four and OV Day 1 and so on. We've been going at it!
7569019 tn?1460135460 now down to 10) 4 days of major charlie horses Dr said stop taking Gemfibrozil.. and to help with the swelling I was put on lasix furosemide 20 mg and pot chloride 20 meg.. I am drinking more water but not peeing anymore than normal..dizzy tho.and sometimes short of breath, especially when walking or talking..how much water should I be drinking, an the muscle cramps and weakness of my legs will they get better? This kills me.. the pain last for hours after a cramp.
Avatar n tn Ok...I was confused as I was not aware this could happen like this, I thought they were in tandem....huh....well If I find ne info I will let u know. Didn't ur Dr advise u how to do this?
Avatar f tn A bit of history on me. I am 36 years old, have had bulimia since I was 17, doctors and family have only known since 2006 when I was hospitalized. I have some cardiac damage from purging and use of laxatives, diuretics & ipecac.
Avatar n tn Cardiac arrest indicates the heart has stopped beating. Heart failure is a condition of the heart's inability to pump adequately and can lead to cardiac arrest. An arrhythmia is condition of irregular heartbeats and can lead to cardiac arrest as well. Thanks for your question and take care.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar n tn s electrical system is sensitive to medication and the interaction of chemical elements, electrolytes, sodium, etc. can disrupt an electrical impulse and cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest causes heart failure and would be secondary to cardiac arrest (an electrical dysfunction). From the information you provide that appears to be the situation.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Salad binge?! I eat salads every day. LOL! But I'm highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it.
Avatar n tn Mild resuscitative hypothermia after cardiac arrest improves neurological outcome and reduces mortality in comatose survivors. The ability to survive anoxic no-flow states is dramatically increased with protective and preservative hypothermia. Outcome of brain injury depends on various factors like duration of ischaemia to the brain and extent of damage in the brain.
406412 tn?1217438384 Hi Sudden cardiac death is also known as sudden cardiac arrest. All known heart diseases can lead to cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death. However, the most common cause are cardiac arrhythmias where irregular heart rhythm causes the heart to suddenly stop beating.
