pneumonia

242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.

Avatar f tn My question is are there any guidelines/protocol for stopping tx if your ALT/AST reaches 150 each even though you are UND? Mine have been consistently rising each week and today, week 25, my AST=130 and ALT=124. My Hepa Dr said we would have to stop tx if they both reach 150. I cannot find any information on this anywhere. So any help would be greatly appreciated!

Avatar f tn I'm hoping someone can help me. I had community acquired pneumonia at Christmas 15 for the first time which required 2 nights hospital stay. Prior to this if not had any real health issues, ex social smoker ie maybe 2/3 cigarettes every couple of weeks for about 8 years until about 13 months ago. 7 months later I got pneumonia again (still recovering now 3 weeks later).
Avatar n tn and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
Avatar f tn My husband had flu and pneumonia April of 2017. Had xrays taken by his rheumatologist in Aug 2017 and there was a shadow on his lower right lobe where the pneumonia was. On the 6th of this month (Dec) a follow up xray was taken and two days after they called and said the radiologist recommended a no contrast ct scan. So (two days ago which would have been the 11th) we made an appointment to have it done on the 18th of Dec. Today they called and now want to do the contrast. What is going on?
Avatar m tn Professionals like Hook and Hansfield may feel confident in giving advice based on new research, before formal guidelines change. But nonprofessionals on a community forum probably should stick with formal guidelines, like those of CDC. You'll notice that Teak no longer participates in this forum. Many (most?

Avatar f tn My question is, how much longer before he loses his ability to swallow? He has aspirated a few times, but no pneumonia, even though there is fluid in his lungs. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me, any time guidelines, though I know each case is different. I have children and a very stressful job and live far away, and it is hard to be there until close to his death. Thank you all so much.
547368 tn?1440541785 Hello my friends in pain, As you may recall I have discussed the proposed involvement of the CDC in pain management in the last several months. If you don't know I disagree with their involvement. The "Draft" for their proposed Guidelines is now complete. It can be viewed and their web-site and a link to that can be found in my journal. I'll that link at the end of this thread.
707563 tn?1626361905 Hi everyone - Our Pregnancy Communities have age guidelines, and we will be limiting the Pregnancy 35+ community to 35+ years old exclusively, with few exceptions (high risk pregnancies, for example). Support is GIVE and TAKE. It isn't just about giving. We need to make sure that everyone is in a safe place to get the support and info they need, and right now, that community doesn't feel like that place for our members that are 35+.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 22 year old woman, I don`t smoke, I was treated with levaquin for community acquired pneumonia for a little more than a month (horrible side effects), I was in the hospital 3 times, for 5 days in two of them (the second one was a relapse) and only ER the third one. What is unnusual for me is that the last hospital diagnosed me acute bronchitis and the other ones pneumonia,(the gap between the 2nd and the third hospital was 2 weeks, is this logical???).
620048 tn?1358018235 I was given some guidelines to help prevent the pneumonia and the acid reflux...evidently I didnt do so good and got the pneumonia. I am doing very well now, nothing like a slap in the head to get me going. I am eating correctly now, even if I am overdoing it its fine. I will do anything to get rid of this. I have never used steriods for a flare..think it might help?

Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to our little MS community! Over the years we have had a small number of community members, that have had issues with recurring pneumonia, a small number with verbal speech and 'or' swollowing issues. Though again there isn't many and not necessarily has pneumonia been an exclusive issue for the ones with swollowing or speech difficulties.

Avatar f tn I have already felt the burn from this B.S. new guidelines! I have been w/ my Pain Clinic for 8-9 years and I have always followed the rules. But this last visit they cut my MSContin from 30mg. 2x/day but left the percosets at 4x/day. Gee, how nice they are! GGGggggggrrrrrr!! They told me it was due to "new guidelines" from the FDA & CDC. I had no warning this was going to happen! I am pissed off!

Avatar f tn Has the medical community settled on whether it is normal and healthy for elderly people to have higher blood pressure readings? I see 140/90 mentioned but no credentials.
