Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia antibiotics cat

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with pneumonia about 3 weeks ago. I've been on a Z pack, Avelox, predniszolne, and Albuterol pump. After 3 visits to the ER, I am still coughing and wheezing and have shortness of breath. The last ER doctor gave me a nebulizer machine and Albuterol solution. I am also on Allegra. When will the coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath end? 3 chest xrays and a lung cat scan all came back clear after the antibiotics were finished.
Avatar n tn Hello: since I had my baby 2-1/2 years ago, I have had pneumonia 5 times. I am always tired. I recently had a CAT scan and bronchiscopy to see if there was possibly something more wrong with me. Nothing unsual found. My right lung, middle lobe is where the pneumonia continues to reoccur. I have always been healthy. I used to workout 5-7 days/wk. prior to having Sam. During and after the pregnancy, I have not worked out at all. I am 5'6, 130 lbs. Please help.
Avatar n tn I don't have any experience with pneumonia on tx. but I believe there was a post a few days ago about respiratory issues. Glad you are seeing your gp. Just wanted to send my best wishes!
178345 tn?1242539846 But in November I developed a cold which turned out to be pneumonia well i was on the antibiotics for 14 days..In December I went to the Dr and again I had pneumonia in the other lung. Again I was placed on 2 antibiotic treatments..My Docotor didnt like that I developed it 2 different times and is having me see a pulmonologist. Well I am concerned and was wondering if this could be from being weakend after so long?
5915949 tn?1396191827 They say its a class B which means there arent any studies whether its safe or not. 16wks and have a sinus infection and I'm wondering has anyone taken a Z-pack for antibiotics and had any complications?
Avatar f tn I had a slight case of pneumonia that began Dec. 11. I was given antibiotics, etc., and felt much better by Christmas. My daughter gave me a lovely kitten for Christmas (having checked with me first), but after a week, I had so much trouble with weeping itchy eyes, shortness of breath, that I had her take the kitten home with her. Now I wonder whether the pneumonia may have made the problem worse and now that I've recovered, could I have the kitten back?
Avatar n tn The doctor that took over reviewed her case and ordered a CAT scan. He said she had pneumonia and admitted her for treatment. I was so happy that the doctor really checked her out and so I filled out an evaluation letting the hospital administration know what a good job that second doctor did in carefully checking my Mother's condition. Unfortunately, a few months later, there was an "infection" where the regular doctor again instructed me to bring my Mother to the ER.
250084 tn?1303311035 I notice a LOT 'missing here' ?? In ER Monday. Attending Dr. did cat scan, found pneumonia, feel's immune system not so good yet (as I figured) , also may have stomach virus (more vomiting than on any of tx) wanted me back today but didn't want to do the ER thing again :( If not better, keeping me there :( :( The compromised immune is why I am more concerned with this, 2nd time I've had in 2 years. May go to Shands tomorrow, than their all off to Italy for study seminar.
Avatar n tn I spent 6 days in the hospital, 4 in ICU with an unknown strain of (presumably) pneumonia. I was on antibiotics for typical and atypical strains and recovered fairly quickly after discharge. I spent two additional weeks resting before returning to work. They never actually made a complete diagnosis; something I am told is not uncommon. I went for a chest CT in early October to check the lungs.
Avatar n tn Every time I would get better something else would happen and my most recent sickness is pneumonia that I was diagnosed with about 3 weeks ago. I was told it was in every single part of my lungs it could be in and I have been on antibiotics since. The first 10 days I was on levaquin and I did not get any better. I was still running fevers and when they did my follow up chest x-ray it looked exactly the same as it did before they treated it.
Avatar n tn Two days later after still hacking my lungs out I could not stand it anymore I went to different ER and found out I have pneumonia! Got tons of antibiotics and they also thought I had a blood clot, so got a cat scan. Low and behold what do those wicked doctors find? A tumor could be benign or malignant. Something more to worry about. After I get discharged I go to get prescription filled and I eat a dang burger with small sprite. Now guess what, my PVC's are raising havoc.
Avatar f tn I took her to the vet last night and they gave her some antibiotics and a fluid shot because she is so dehydrated. Today will make it a week she has been sick. I couldn't afford to pay the vet to keep her overnight with an IV. I left her with my mother in law today who use to work for a vet many years ago. She plans on giving Lily some mineral oil to try to help her pass the stool that is in her intestines. The vet wanted to get her hydrated and go straight in for surgery.
Avatar n tn Nov 17 - Surgery was done to clear dense fluid and tube to drain fluid to treat bacteria pneumonia. Vancomycin was used as antibiotic. Nov 18-Nov 23 - difficulties getting Vanomycins to Therapeutic levels - culture fluid from lungs showed streptococcus pneumoniae - Switch antibiotic to Bactrim due to sensitivity - Spiking fevers but has slowly shown improvement in blood number and fever level.
Avatar f tn I'm SURE he needs antibiotics. I can not afford a vet. I have some Augmentin, Is that ok to give a cat? I know amoxicillin is, but augmentin is a combination of amox. & something else. I really want to help this cat; i'm afraid he'll die if i don't. What should i do?
Avatar n tn these are your antibiotics? why do you think your kitties need antibiotics? what strength are they and how much do the kitties weigh? you do know that using an antibiotic on cats can be have to be very sure there is an actual infection, than the culture needs to show what antib will work for that strain.
Avatar m tn Each time she shes a DR she gets different answers. The 1st time was you are allergic to your cat, so she got rid of her cat. She quit her job working in a kitchen because they thought that was the problem, however this is still ongoing. Her DRs dont seem to be overly concerned and tell her she just has colds often and her lungs get infected easily. This has been very frustrating, any suggestions as to what we can do?
Avatar n tn It commonly leads to bacterial infections that require antibiotics to cure. Pneumonia is also a somewhat common complication. Most cats will stop eating when suffering this infection due to mouth pain. Adult cats usually aren't as affected as kittens are, but this is a tough infection for cats of every age and can be fatal if not managed. Hospitalization is needed from time to time if the cat will not eat.
Avatar f tn Have you tried give your cat a laxertives for your male cat? have you also tried exercising his legs for him while he is laying down?
Avatar n tn Is there a web site that may have info about taking Antibiotics while on Pegasys/Copegus? No one I've contacted seems to know. I have contracted a terrible sinus infection and first called Pegasys. They have no research data about antibiotics in combination with their tx. How bizarre is that? Yet, they told me my GI should be able to advise. I called them. They won't advise about any other problem not directly related to my liver. So...
Avatar n tn might have helped the doctors to find the pneumonia. On the other hand, pneumonia this virulent superimposed on radiotherapy would be associated with a high mortality rate. Your father might well have died, even if the pneumonia had been found and treated with antibiotics and intensive supportive care. Please do not feel guilty. You obviously loved your father. Your acceptance of the advice offered by his doctors was made in what you deemed to be your father's best interest.
Avatar n tn His teeth have gone from a beautiful white to a dark grey. I was told today that the antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria and that that possibly his diarrea was caused by this and that they will have to treat this with another antibiotic. Is My question is this, I don't really understand any of this can you explain this to me in plain english? I'm very frustrated because he is so small, almost two.
Avatar n tn I had pneumonia five months ago. I am 42 year old female, non-smoker, otherwise healthy. Thought it was viral but couldn't tell. Was hospitalized 11 days. Have been on Advair 500, Atrovent, Salbutamol,Allegra, and numerous antibiotics. CT scan showed normal. Saw Pulmonologist who thought it was either asthma, inflammation from pneumonia persisting, or bronchitis or combo. Tested normally on his "glass box" tests.

Avatar m tn My 69 year old husband (MRSA +ve noted on hospital routine rectal swab) who had been in excellent health other than an infrequent, harsh, dry cough for the past year, acquired pneumonia 10 weeks ago. Chest xray showed right lower lobe pneumonia. Put on Biaxin XL 500mg. Symptoms worse after 5 days of antibiotics- also developed severe headache, dyspnea, hypertension and was ashen. No history of hypertension previously. Went to ER. O2 saturation 85%, BP as high as 220/110.
176135 tn?1314756238 My 17 year old cat has always been a hearty eater. He had a hyperthyroid condition that we treated successfully with radioactive iodine a few years ago. Lately he hasn't eaten much and has gotten very thin, and he tends to stagger when he walks, like his back legs are weak. We went to the vet, who tested him for diabetes, hyperthyroidism and did general blood work that all came back negative.
Avatar n tn My son is 4 1/2 and has had pneumonia on and off since he was 5 months old. He was on Pulmicort and albuterol after a short visit in the hospital at 5 months old but the pediatrician gave me no valid reason for him to be ont hem so long so I swithched pediatricians when he was 7 months. The new pediatrician took him off of the pulmicort only to put him on albuterol when he would get pneumonia; which was about 5 times a year. The Dr.
Avatar m tn Because of FIV he was slower than my other cats, and I looked out for him when he was outdoors. If you want to torment your cat with all those antibiotics it is your call.. If you want to spend thousands to try and save him that is your call 2. My vet wanted to clean his teeth at a cost of 400 dollars . I declined that. Cats with FIV tend to get a lot of plak buildup on there teeth. You can brush your own cats teeth which they hate with a passion, or you can have the VET do it.
Avatar f tn she operated September 7 for cholecystectomy , she was discharged after 2 dayes, and after a week she hospitalized again for bilateral pneumonia with atypical symptoms such as a slight dry cough (only one time daily without sputum), persistent fever, and a middle-high-right-back pain , who has become stronger initially stabbing to become atrocious performing small movements of my chest. My mother was hospitalized and she done a CT scan that says' When cost baseline vertebral mostly right.
