1472764 tn?1287588186 When I had pneumonia with my daughter, I was on antibiotics to clear it up and everything was fine. I was just put on amoxicillin for a dental infection. Both amoxicillin and the medication in your z-pack (I'm assuming that is what you are taking?) are both Pregnancy Category B and considered safe during pregnancy. I even specifically asked my Pharmacist and she assured me it is safe.
Avatar f tn I’ve been diagnosed with lobar pneumonia and was put on antibiotics. It’s been two days (5 doses of antibiotics, so far) and nothing has changed! There is still no congestion, no coughing (I’ve even had 5 doses of Musinex)...just fatigue and shortness of breath. The pain is on and off....I feel crazy!!! HELP?!? (No, I’ve not been sick...my Mom was treated for the flu, but I only had contact with her after she had begun her medication...
Avatar n tn s new to me also that asthma causes a 103 degree fever! Asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around. When steroids are inhaled into the lungs to treat asthma it creates an immune suppression and can make the person more susceptible to infection. This is a scary thing for a mother not to mention your son and should be investigated further. I would recommend they refer you to a Immunologist, and have the level of antibodies your son has evaluated.
242516 tn?1368223905 If your doctor knows that your own area is experiencing an outbreak of influenza, it may be reasonable to treat with antiviral drugs, especially if your temperature is more than 100 degrees and your symptoms have lasted less than 48 hours, and you don't have pneumonia. This is because antivirals won't help if given after 2 days of symptoms.
Avatar m tn He was ok for another 10 months with on and off colds, but this time he developed pneumonia again and had to be treated with oral antibiotics. I want to know if there is anyway to help prevent reccurence of pneumonia? Will there be any damage to his lungs because of reccurence of pneumonia? Is his immune system weak? Please help me.
Avatar f tn right basal pneumonia just means its on the right side at the bottom of youre lung it doesnt really tell you what type - ie really you need to have some kind of culture and sensitivity done on the mucous you cough up to a)find out what bug is causing the infection and b)what antibiotics is best to treat it with - also you have been ill a really long time - why is it not improving - ie do you have other health issues have youre dr's investigated this??
4498734 tn?1355501804 I was on antibiotics for an impacted tooth and was then put on antibiotics for pneumonia and told to stop taking the antibiotics for my tooth. Now the pneumonia seems to be clearing up but the infection in my mouth seems to be coming back. What could I do?
Avatar m tn You have to treat Chlamydia pneumonia completely on CDC i have not found any treatment guidelines for Chlamydia pneumonia but you have to take combination of Antibiotics for at least up to 8 weeks to completely eradicate the bacteria.. As of CAP protocol you can check the website cnphelp.org , i have started taking Azithromycin 500mg once in morning & Doxycycline 100mg 2x a day , and i have only prescription for 14 days i will try to get more as i do not want this disease to progress..
Avatar f tn to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say. Pneumonia can be contagious until about 48 hours into antibiotics (the viral kind that some will have treated with antibiotics any way). So, does that long winded info above answer your question?
Avatar f tn Thanks that's what I was thinking. I don't think it is normal to forget where I am when driving and miss turns, along with continuously being sick. I need a new doctor.
Avatar n tn Hopefully they have cultured your sputem. Sometimes they want to do a broncoscopic exam to get the sample. I disagree, but this is often the protocol. Have they prescribed an electrical albuterol inhaler, or any asthmatic meds? The albuterol inhaler will break up the mucus. There are other asmthmatic meds you can use in the inhaler. The use of prednisone while you have an infection is controversial. I know they use it.
Avatar f tn But, GBS can be passed from a mother to baby during delivery and cause serious illnesses like pneumonia, sepsis, and meningitis. Only a small number of babies born to mothers colonized with GBS will become sick, however. If You are considered high risk for transmission your doctor will likely treat you with IV antibiotics during delivery - or possibly regardless of risk level. If baby developes signs of illness, they can do the same for him/her.
620048 tn?1358018235 Meg, in my opinion if they want you in the hospital to treat this pneumonia then that is where you shoud be. There are too many things that can't be monitored well from home. One thing is the amount of oxygen you need get enough good air to your body without shutting down your brain's trigger to breathe. It's a hard thing to balance when you have COPD as well as pneumonia and could be why they are asking about the sleep apnea thing.
250084 tn?1303307435 My Mom had leukemia and was thus prone to pneumonia. It happened twice that she had to change antibiotics, as the one used was not working. So be aware of that.
Avatar n tn It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok. They can treat you with antibiotics if you have the secondary bacterial pneumonia but if it is Mycoplasma or Chlamydia they may or may not. I have had both Mycoplasma and Chlamdia pneumnia at the same time after getting the flu. You may just still have the viral pneumonia. You should revisit your doctor to be safe. If you have any other questions feel free.
4250330 tn?1388621179 I haven't had it checked in a few weeks last time I went to the doctor they told me I had a cyst on my liver I went for chest pains and they did an EKG blood work and chest X-ray and said everything was fine besides the cyst
Avatar n tn And has been said many times on this forum, there is no medical condition and no medication that delays HIV antibody or otherwise alters HIV test results. That includes all kinds of pneumonia and all the drugs used to treat it. (Potent chemotherapy may do it, but even that is theoretical without any actual known instances of it actually happening.) If indeed you have had no HIV exposures in the past 6 months, you can be sure you do not have HIV.
Avatar n tn If you have been in sexual contact with a person of unknown HIV status and feel there is a possibility, then it is best to get complete HIV screening at 1, 3 and 6 months post exposure. Consult a PCP to treat the cough, which in all probability will need decongestants or anti allergics or antibiotics. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
1901977 tn?1333991726 They gave me penacilin for a tooth infection and I refused to take it, so I know how you feel but I would think pneumonia would be alot worst.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar n tn it is simple and effective combine this with your current regimen it will break up the biofilms from the bacteria so that antibiotics will actually be able to get to te bacteria to kill it.peroxide and the saline will also kill the bacteria.
1227988 tn?1276504453 Doctors here in our country treat UTI by just urinalysis and symptoms. I have a history of pneumonia and was treated via IV of broad spectrum antibiotics back then. It would have cleared the infection if I have still any.
Avatar f tn I called my doctor who said it was most likely due to the pneumonia I had rather than the antibiotics. Sure enough, the next day after that phone call I got my period.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
