Avatar m tn Improvement in NASH, as measured by using a composite of standardized scores for steatosis, lobular inflammation, hepatocellular ballooning, and fibrosis, was observed in 43% of patients receiving vitamin E compared with 19% of patients receiving placebo (P = .001). Specific improvements conferred by vitamin E in comparison with placebo included significant reductions in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT)/aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (P < .001), hepatic steatosis (P = .

Avatar m tn As physicians, our job is to weigh the risk to benefit ratio in each case based on the special circumstances of that particular patient. Trazodone has a high benefit to risk ratio for most patients and thus considered a relatively safe medication. Only you in a consultation with your doctor who is aware of your complete medical history and other extenuating circumstances will be able to judge how beneficial Trazodone prescription will be in your particular case.
Avatar f tn Hives Gastric analysis with histamine stimulation was performed on 40 patients with chronic hives (urticaria). Approximately 65% of the patients had either hypochlorhydria or achlorhydria. Of the patients with reduced acid output, 65% obtained almost complete or partial relief of symptoms with hydrochloric acid (HCl) therapy. These patients previously had been unresponsive to all other forms of treatment. The best results were obtained in the 22 patients with achlorhydria.

Avatar m tn The Symptoms for the over production of HCL, and the under production of HCL, are virtually identical. The both cause Reflux, Belching, Bloating, Abdominal Discomfort, Irrecular Stools, etc. Unfortunately many doctors are prescribing Proton Pump Inhibitors or pH Blocking Medications to their Patiens which is making them Achlorhydric.

Avatar m tn We are patients or people dealing with patients on a personal level, not professional medical level. That is not to say a medical doctor or other profession never reads posts here, but it is best to assume they are not. So, I think your questions can not be answered here. I also think your question is too general even for someone who understand it. Seems one might find a article or a whole text book needed to fully address your question. Wishing the best in your career.
Avatar n tn If you are not sure about meds , Please go back to your Doctor or Phone him/her and ask about your meds that you are on, Take care
Avatar n tn Many doctors are prescribing Proton Pump Inhibitors to patients that are not over producing HCL, causeing the Patient to become Achlorhydric. If you are Hyperchlorhydric you should be taking a medication that mimics the Normal Physiologic buffering the occurs in the Digestive Process, which is a 2 to 1 ratio of Sodium Bicarbonate to Potassium Bicarbonate. Proton Pump Inhibitos will cause the Parietal Cells to stop producing HCL.
Avatar m tn A diagnosis of NASH requires the best medical care which is why I recommend seeing a hepatologist at a liver transplant center because they treat NASH patients as part of their daily practice and they are aware of all of the latest develops in the field. Here is what the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC) has to say about NASH. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/nash/#treatment "Currently, no specific therapies for NASH exist.
Avatar n tn Distressing heartburn is often the first symptom to disappear following withdrawal of carbohydrates from the die However severe, and even if made worse by factors like the back-flow of gastric juice into the esophagus in hiatal hernia, the chances of success are good. If patients come back with the complaint that the diet is no longer effective and their heartburn has returned, a closer look usually reveals that some carbohydrates have again crept into the diet.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm assuming you're referring to Gemzar (generic name: gemcitabine), which is a chemotherapy drug commonly used for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. I'm not sure what particular side effect of gemcitabine you're thinking of which could be counteracted by taking Lugol's solution. I have used this drug on a lot of my patients and have never used Lugol's to counteract any of Gemzar's adverse effects.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I have many patients that safely take metoprolol and prozac (as well as other SSRI medications). I have not seen clinical interaction between these drugs. It is probably best to call your doctor to ask them if it is ok.
Avatar f tn IC Sotalol or Sotalol HCL are the same BUT Sotalol AF is completely different Do NOT take Sotalol AF it might kill you. When you start sotalol AF you have to be in a facility with resuscitation devices it might stop your heart. Once I was given at a Pharmacy by mistake and I ended up in the ER. Always take the oval light blue pills, AF are round orange pills.
Avatar f tn All new and existing patients currently taking BetapaceR (sotalol HCl) or generic sotalol for atrial fibrillation should be transferred to BetapaceAF™. Betapace and generic sotalol are not approved for the AFIB/AFL indication and should not be substituted for BetapacAF™. BetapaceAF™ is the only sotalol approved for highly symptomatic AFIB." Called the company who said they are not the same and are not interchangeable.
