Avatar n tn Meanwhile, he and his colleagues are investigating the biological mechanisms by which vitamin E or pioglitazone might reverse fatty liver disease. Cusi’s research group is testing pioglitazone against fatty liver in Hispanics, who seem prone to the disease, and in people with diabetes." http://tinyurl.
Avatar n tn Went to ER with severe vertigo that wouldn't stop. They did a CT scan of head/brain w/o contrast. Part of the findings state "Artifact degradation of the pons is noted. The gray white differentiation appears symmetric with artifact degradation through the posterior fossa and near the skull base.
806995 tn?1265823176 agreed that the '08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize.
Avatar f tn For women who are unresponsive to clomiphene, the oral hypoglycemic agents like metformin could be of little help, or pioglitazone, may bring resumption of regular cycles and ovulation. These agents reduce the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia in PCOS. These are actually medically prescribed medicines for PCOS.As this syndrome is very common in women the case is often individualised and treatment option will be processed and prescribed.Fell free to talk to your Doc.
Avatar f tn Is the pitting edema progressive? Are you on pioglitazone? or rosiglitazone? Answers to these questions would further help.
Avatar m tn I am obese (300lbs), diabetic (type 2) and require medication to control hypetension. I take the following medications – Metformin, Pioglitazone, Victoza (liraglutide), Amlodipine, Ramipril, Bendroflumethiazide, Asprin and Statin. I have a strange and embareasin problem. I hope someone out there may be able to offer some insight. I have always had sensitive nipples but in the last few days sensitivity in my left nipple has gone crazy.
Avatar n tn HI, It sounds like your wife will definitely need an additional medication--if not restarting the Pioglitazone, then an alternative. There are lots of different diabetes medications available that will help. Those glucose levels are indeed too high and should be addressed soon. Please ask your wife to contact her doctor as soon as possible(I suggest within the next 2 days a most) and discuss being started on another medication to bring her levels down.
Avatar f tn Evangelin posted about this youtube video. "Sugar , the bitter truth" It is a long video , but what I did not know before watching it is that High Fructose Corn Syrup metabolically is as bad as alcohol for the liver. The majority of processed foods we find in the supermarket have High Fructose Corn Syrup which can majorly effect obesity and fatty liver.
Avatar f tn Other newer insulin-sensitising medicines include pioglitazone. This is not currently recommended for PCOS. For certain people with PCOS, a specialist may advise that metformin be taken. However, further research is needed to confirm the role of these medicines in the treatment of PCOS.
Avatar m tn Degradation of viral DNA in the cell nucleus opens new Hepatitis B treatment possibilities Scientists from the Helmholtz Zentrum München and the Technische Universität München have discovered how the viral DNA of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) can be degraded in the cell nucleus of liver cells, consequently allowing the virus to be eliminated. Viruses such as HBV can persist by depositing their genetic information (DNA) in the cell nucleus, where the DNA is normally not degraded.
Avatar n tn hey, my grandfather has been recently diagnosed with dementia (although not a finite diagnosis). but his memory degradation is not consistent, during the day his memory and behavior is fine (although not as great as it used to be), but in the evening his memory and behavior gets alot worse. i wanted to ask if someone in this forum has any new diagnosis or can explain why its like that. thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. Macrobid is nitrofurantoin, not clarithromycin. You may also look here: http://www.ehealthme.com/drug_interactions_side_effects/Nexium-2792078.
Avatar m tn Hello, Histamine intolerance results from a disequilibrium of accumulated histamine and the capacity for histamine degradation. Symptoms can be reduced by a histamine-free diet or be eliminated by antihistamines. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn I've been on it and it is addictive. Not as addictive as oxycontin, but addictive nevertheless. It causes a degradation in thought processes. Sort of "brain-fog. In and of itself it isn't very good as a pain reliever.
Avatar m tn This is a follow up on one of my previous thread... I met again with my hepatologist today and went over the different options available. So instead of treating right away I am going to do a new liver biopsy in early 2009 (the previous one was 3 1/2 years ago). That way I'll know how much time I can afford to wait.
Avatar m tn Should I try another antibiotic to battle the sinusitis (eg Amoxycillin/Clavulanate 875/125mg) ? Could the sinus infection be causing a problem in the root of a perfectly good tooth? Will a CT scan help? Any other info you can suggest would be appreciated. PS.. I am in Brazil and having some trouble trusting the medical system here.
Avatar n tn I am not sure what you are looking for exactly, but there are some current studies out on low dose interferon only used as maintenance to defer the degradation of the liver. These trial results reflect that it is not helpful.
Avatar n tn As you may know way back when the original practice was to attach EKG leads to the wrists and ankles. Modesty was an issue. You have two problems. Degradation of signal and artifact. With a 12 lead there will be some diminishment of signal. It is a better idea to place the electrodes under the breasts, even though that involves a bit of privacy invasion. This is ocasionally a problem with paramedics, who don't use a 12 lead. An ST depression will usually show up in either case.
Avatar m tn I live in Hong Kong, have cataract and have been trying to choose between multifocal IOLs and Crystalens HD. I tend to prefer Crystalens because of its advantages in reading computer screens and less halos, while realizing its shortcomings in near vision (40cm and under). As Crystalens HD is still kind of under a trial peroid in Hong Kong, it may be more convenient for me to have surgery in Singapore which has passed the trial stage.
