Avatar m tn MY 6 YR OLD SON had a round red swollen area on his right forearm and after applying fudic bnf cream and teczim syrup for one week , the area developed into a red swollen lump around the size of around 15 mm x 10 mm and the size of the lump after 4 weeks is not decreasing in size and is also not increasing in size but is inflammed red and warm to the touch. 806995 tn?1265823176 agreed that the '08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize.
568812 tn?1379165794 So anyway, the pain he says, is the worst hes had in 18 months and his doctors are suggesting he uses amitriptyline but he doesnt want again and personally i agree that he shouldnt be on them. Ive looked in my BNF (British National Formulary) and i cant seem to see anything that might help. So my question is to ask if anyone has similar IBS symptoms and can suggest anything that might ease his pain. Thanks.
Avatar f tn For women who are unresponsive to clomiphene, the oral hypoglycemic agents like metformin could be of little help, or pioglitazone, may bring resumption of regular cycles and ovulation. These agents reduce the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia in PCOS. These are actually medically prescribed medicines for PCOS.As this syndrome is very common in women the case is often individualised and treatment option will be processed and prescribed.Fell free to talk to your Doc.

I hope someone out there may be able to offer some insight. I have always had sensitive nipples but in the last few days sensitivity in my left nipple has gone crazy.
Avatar n tn HI, It sounds like your wife will definitely need an additional medication--if not restarting the Pioglitazone, then an alternative. There are lots of different diabetes medications available that will help. Those glucose levels are indeed too high and should be addressed soon. Please ask your wife to contact her doctor as soon as possible(I suggest within the next 2 days a most) and discuss being started on another medication to bring her levels down.
Avatar f tn Evangelin posted about this youtube video. "Sugar , the bitter truth" It is a long video , but what I did not know before watching it is that High Fructose Corn Syrup metabolically is as bad as alcohol for the liver. The majority of processed foods we find in the supermarket have High Fructose Corn Syrup which can majorly effect obesity and fatty liver.
Avatar f tn Other newer insulin-sensitising medicines include pioglitazone. This is not currently recommended for PCOS. For certain people with PCOS, a specialist may advise that metformin be taken. However, further research is needed to confirm the role of these medicines in the treatment of PCOS.
Avatar n tn Recently, I have been a bit more tired than I usually am, I have these really slight cramps in my lower stomach very similiar to period cramps, but WAY less painful, I experiened a 24-hour headache once and some very dull back and neck aches. I took one test the day I was due, but it was a BNF and another yesterday and the same results. I didn't use first morning's urine, though. About an hour and a half ago, I used the washroom and, once again, when I wiped I saw the same thing.

Avatar n tn Weight loss through improved diet and increased physical activity has been the cornerstone therapy of NAFLD. Avatar f tn Hi, I am 29 years old and I have suspect that I have PCOS. I was overweight/obese as a child and teenager until my early 20s. Aged 21 I started getting excess facial/bodily hair and my weight increased to its highest (can't remember what but I was a UK size 18/US size 22). Then aged 22 my periods went from being 5 days long, 3 days heavy 2 light to lasting just 3 days, none particularly heavy.
Avatar m tn do you think that there is any mileage in switching from the generic versions to extended release type?? i forgot to say that i do have a Lumie SAD light and utilise this also. UK GP's won't prescribe over those levels despite what has been indicated elsewhere as you rightly say, as there's significant variation on this on the internet within the western world it seems. In the course of my work i've not seen patients being prescribed over these BNF levels.
Avatar f tn Studies of these medications—including metformin, rosiglitazone, and pioglitazone—are being sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and should answer the question of whether these medications are beneficial in NASH.
