Avatar n tn Hi Doctor, My wife has consulted the doctor as advised by you and he has prescribed Cetapin 1000 mg 1-0-1 (metformin) along with Glimy-4(Glimepiride)1-0-0-. Hope this is OK.
Avatar n tn To test the effectiveness of pioglitazone and vitamin E, Sanyal and colleagues at 11 other medical facilities identified 247 people who had severe fatty liver disease. None of the volunteers drank alcohol excessively or was diabetic, but all were overweight or obese. Their average age was in the mid-40s. The researchers randomly assigned participants to one of three treatments β€” vitamin E, pioglitazone or a placebo capsule β€” taken daily for nearly two years.
Avatar f tn Study Confirms Benefits of Vitamin E in Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis Megan Brooks May 4, 2010 β€” Supplementation with the natural form of vitamin E (800 IU/day) has beneficial effects in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), but pioglitazone's benefits are less clear, according to the latest findings from the Pioglitazone vs Vitamin E vs Placebo for the Treatment of Nondiabetic Patients with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (PIVENS) trial, reported online April 28 in the New England
Avatar m tn Thank You very much for your reply, As I mentioned above, she was given new medicined once she experienced high blood sugar level few weeks back. She was given Metformin (850 mg) and Pioglitazone (30Mg per day). Once she started experiencing low blood sugar level, the doctor stopped giving Pioglitazone and asked to continue Metformin with few other medicines and the my mother was told that she experiencing such low levels of sugar due to Pioglitazone.
1068689 tn?1325827206 My new doctor changed my prescriptions from regular Met to Met XR and added 2mg of Glimepiride. My BG's have been above 300 for last few months and nothing seems to get them down. Doc thinks this change should do it. I've only taken it twice now but since taking it I've been dizzy. Quite enough I need to lay down. I know it says this may be a side affect but does it go away? It brought my BG's down as I said from over 300 3 hrs after eating to 180 just now.
Avatar f tn Metforman is good Glimepiride not so much, Many people think that taking drugs that FORCE the pancreas to pump out more insulin only burns the pancreas up faster. As I said carbs raise BG what does he eat. the heat in the kitchen should not prevent him from controlling his BG. I found control was easier and better when I went on insulin.
Icecream The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Just make sure you're watching for the signs of low blood sugar, which are, sudden headache, feeling shaky, and weakness. There are many more signs of hypoglycemia and I encourage you to research it more yourself.
Avatar f tn For women who are unresponsive to clomiphene, the oral hypoglycemic agents like metformin could be of little help, or pioglitazone, may bring resumption of regular cycles and ovulation. These agents reduce the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia in PCOS. These are actually medically prescribed medicines for PCOS.As this syndrome is very common in women the case is often individualised and treatment option will be processed and prescribed.Fell free to talk to your Doc.
Avatar m tn the drug glimepiride, is not making my blood sugar level lower; instead is higher 250! I am taking 2mg twice a day. My doctor says all is OK.
Avatar n tn My Dr said that because both my parents were diagnosed w/ Diabetis type 2 at age 50 and 55 I am at increased risk of getting it. He said to be careful and reduce my weight by 10 lbs and watch the sugars and things should be ok or at least I could prevent the onset for now. I am 39 and male all cholesteral results are normal and BP is very good. What do I make of this? Also are glucose monitors accurate? I bought one and reads at 85 (fasted 8 hrs)?
Avatar n tn After this happened a couple of times I quit taking the Metformin. About a year later I was then diagnosed with T2 and am now on Glimepiride and have since began having these episodes again. They begin in the jaw area primarily the glands just below my jaws, with a sting/tingling that intensifies and radiates out all around my ears, neck throat and surface of my chest, and my upper torso goes ice cold. This takes place any where from a 30 second to a 3 minute cycle.
Avatar m tn among the two drugs Pioglitazone (Actos) has less sides and also active against HCC but i didn t find a study on its activity against hbsag and hbvdna http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180ΒΊ. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.
806995 tn?1265823176 agreed that the '08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize.
Avatar m tn My MD switched me to Glimeperide my BG is good but my appetite and weight have increased a lot. Any one have the same issues? Also, my vision is fluctuating from blurry to sharp during the day, I do have Myasthenia Gravis which can have vision issues too. Any comments?
Avatar n tn How are you doing with monitoring your diet? Do you get regular exercise and drink plenty of water? Sometimes the medications that are helpful and keep things under control for a while, stop working or just need adjusted.
Avatar n tn 5 years ago I started doing cardio and weight trainig 5 days a week with a trainer and eating a clean diet and have lost 50lbs and have maintained it. BUT my stomach WILL NOT go down. My trainer thinks it could be some of my medications and/or its interactions with each other. Here's a list of what I am currently still taking: Clonidine, Glimepiride, Byetta, Metformin, Amlodipine, Crestor, and Losartan HCT. Is it possible that it could be these meds? Please help!!
Avatar n tn I currently take glimepiride 4mg twice daily and actos 15mg once daily. What is the sucess of these two meds. I continue to have high blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn I am on hydrochlorothiazide (water pill) and Zocor for high cholestoral. Also take Humalog and Lantas insulin (4 shots per day). Take Prilosec for GERD and a potasium pill. Also on Peri-Colace for stomach problems. Spoke with the Dr. and discontinued all pills for a few days to see if it had any effect and it did not. Still swelling. Right now about 5 pounds of water, by tonight it will be 10 pounds.
Avatar f tn Nowadays doctors are stopping to use metformin kindly read and do some r&d. Initially even i was on Metformin for PCOD and my doctor suggested to stop it.
1273125 tn?1365077526 I was doing well enough after 6 months to be taken off the Insulin, and the Dr added the Glimepiride to the Met. It controlled my sugar fairly well - A1C was never higher than 7.1, and is currently 6.8 - which the Dr is thrilled at for me only having half a pancreas... I still have highs (300) and lows (49), but overall not bad. If I were you, I would TRY ALL avenues with oral meds before making the decision with your Dr. to start Insulin shots.
538277 tn?1214680105 He has put me on Carvedilol 25mg 2x a day, Nifedipine (Procardia XL) 60mg 1x day, Glimepiride 4mg 1x day, and continued me on Phenytoin EX 300mg @ night (had 3 seizures in 20yrs -age 24, 34, & 46)& Ecotrin 325mg 1 @ night. Have major problems with diaherra, and diverticular disease. Hospitalized in May of '07 w/preferations starting - there for 3 days, back in ER 1 wk, no insurance - kept me on antibotics for about 2 months. Alegeric to pencillin, tetracycline, & opiates.
Avatar n tn I went to an endocrinologist who put me on Vicotza and glimepiride. M numbers have dropped drastically. I am never over 150 now. Have been on it for maybe a month. So insulin is an option but there are other medications that help too. Problem with insulin is it cause weight gain which can perpetuate the over -weight high blood sugar issues! Vicotza can work as a weight loss aide as well. Call an endo soon!!
