Hi I am sorry I don't know the answer, I am sure someone else will come along. I have heard of people injecting in their arm subcutaneously but not intramuscular. Did the nurse say anything after she did this? Can you talk to your doctor? Is the nurse going to inject you every week?...if so I would try to do it myself.

I chose pegasys because with it there is a chance of HbsAg loss even after treatments is stopped and long term virus suppression which you can not reach with antivirals I suppose but surely it is like 50/50 chance which I still thinkg worth trying. My ALT was not that high - 52 when the upper limit is 42.

s not fun, but it is actually kind of interesting and it is bearable. Certainly beats the alternative.

Has anybody out there been treated with COPEGUS and PEGASYS? I saw a gastroentoligist today and he has ordered all sorts of blood work, but says if I start treatment this is what he would give me. I asked about the new VERTEX drug coming out next year and he said it probably wouldent be out that soon.

I tolerated Pegasys much better than Peg Intron.

I found a few posts from 2006 but am hoping for more/newer info. I was on Pegasys the first time so I guess I am not as afraid of it as I am the Pegintron. I am 5" 5 and weigh 140. I have learned so much from so many of you since 2007; I am very grateful. I am hoping no one minds me asking this question. Since going on Metformin my VL has gone from 7m to 340K which I hope is a good thing. So all you wonderful people, can you tell me the difference between the two interferon's?

i think docs fall into two categories on this. docs who give pegasys do it because its easier on the patient. the other docs including mine think that the pegintron is stronger and possibly better, even though there are no numbers to prove it.

Hi All, Well it looks like my docs office wants to treat me with Peg Intron (80 mg) and Ribaviron 1000mg tablets. She said the Peg Intron in her experience causes a more "predictable" decline in red blood cells than pegasys. I am only 110 lbs, so she said because it is weight based too, that is better for me. Any thoughts on Pegasys vs. Peg Intron? My stats again - female, mid 20s, type 3a, VL 950,000. I have been infected since birth (my mom was HCV). Thanks!

What I also liked was the Pegasys weekly diary. I kept that religiously my first treatment and refer back to it now to compare treatments. PegIntron only has some cheezy diary pages you can download and I don't like them so I made my own diary on excel and I record each pill, shot, lab, and general comments about my week.

t want to stop the tx unless you absolutely have to, I would wait till the doctor gets back and have him change the prescription over to Pegasys. It will be ok as he gets here the day you need your next shot.

According to Roche 2004 trial ( posted in NEJM) 48 week of pegasys resulted in 42% of HBV DNA<20000 copies/ml but it maintained in only 30% after 3 years f/u ( P Marcellin) A pilot trial ( AM J Gastroenterl 2007;102:2718-2723) pointed out better results of 60 weeks pegasys ( 69% HBV DNA<20000 after 24 weeks off-pegasys periods). It also mentioned greater supress of HBsAg in those who succeed.

Based on what I've read it looks like viraferonpeg is an alpha 2b pegylated interferon. Further, it looks the same as what's more commonly referred to as Pegintron Redipen. If that's true I'd prefer the Pegasys.

For hbeag negative people it would make sense only in combination with pegasys, together with which it could, but most likely not to a great extend, improve patients chances of cure. For example, instead of having 15% chance of cure with pegasys alone, one could have maybe 20% (or 25%) chances of cure if pegasys would be combined with 520. Pegasys can cause substantial side effects though...pegasys + 520 could be even tougher on side effects....

I think the efficacy is pretty much equal with Pegasys perhaps having a slight edge. It was the tolerability of Pegasys that enabled me to extend my treatment duration and achieve SVR.

also i have a problem with thyroid, Roche med representative said before i take pegasys i should have other check ups for my thyroid as it may affect it while on pegasys. My doctor gave me two options, pegasys or tenofovir, and get rid lamivudine. i am in doubt to take pegasys for now.
