Paroxetine and anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Paroxetine and anxiety

paxil

Avatar f tn I was given Paroxetine for depression/anxiety over a year ago. I didn't take it however. Tried talk therapy for 6 weeks instead. I feel now, however, that I need to go on meds. I was just wondering if someone can tell me what to expect after taking paroxetine. Does it really work? How long does it take it to work? And are there any noticeable changes at all the first few weeks. Before, I did take one pill when I was given the meds.
Avatar m tn My doc immediately prescribed me 20mg of Paroxetine and 10mg of Buspirone. He wanted to up my dosage to 25mg of Paroxetine and 15mg of Buspirone. I didn't want this however because I know there are some withdrawal problems with paxil. I'm just worried about taking these two medications together. Thanks.
Avatar f tn The switch is not abrupt, she first reduced the dose of paroxetine and started with a low dose of the new drug for a while.
Avatar f tn I'm a 21 year old female, and I've been suffering from depression and anxiety since childhood. My question is what are the similarities between Paroxetine and Xanax, and what are the differences? Also can anyone tell me if both medications have similar effects on a person; I'm currently on Paxil, but I was wondering if it was anything like Xanax? Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn My mother who is 79 years old, has severe arthritis and has dealt with anxiety for many years has been prescribed for sometime by her doctor to take 20 mg Paroxetine and 2 mg Alprazolam in the morning, 1 mg Alprazolam at lunch and 2 mg Alprazolam before bedtime. Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?
Avatar n tn t function without paroxetine, I have been weaned off once and I was not too bad for 2 months but the Anxiety did return and I couldn't eat or function at all, lost a stone before I went back onto paroxetine. I was trying for a baby, I will wait for a while now. BUT I want kids however I can't do it without meds i'm affraid, None of my Drs seem to know what's safe and what's not and they don't want to make any comments about it yet.
Avatar m tn thanks for the reply, it has been 10 days now and my social anxiety and o.c.d.
Avatar m tn The paxil helped me very much for depression - not so much with pani or anxiety although I know it is prescribed for that purpose. I went off of it in July and back on it in November as I was very depressed. I recently went back off of it and am doing O.K. I was lucky in that I never had much of a problem in going off or on paxil. I believe it took 3 to 6 weeks for it to work. How many mg. are you on?
Avatar m tn I have been officially diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (the sort that was originally called "pure obsessional") and Generalized Anxiety Disorder over the years. Over the last 6 months I have been experiencing a huge amount of financial and job stress, such that my doctor was concerned enough to put me on Paroxetine HCL (Paxil), starting at 25mg and now 30mg. It is the first drug I have taken for treatment of my issues since 1995 when I was on Xanax for 6 months.

Avatar f tn Post-partum depression is a hormonal imbalance, and no antidepressant will change that. You might feel better, but then you're on an antidepressant, and they have their own problems. Because these meds have different effects on different individuals, nobody can tell you how you'll experience it -- their experience won't necessarily have any resemblance to yours.
Avatar f tn Ive been switched from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 5 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I've went to the doctors yesterday because I feel terrible terrible - headaches, feeling incredibly depressed and crazy!
486038 tn?1300063367 Infact I was placed back on the Zoloft and a low dose of Xanax after the Paroxetine made me so ill, and saw stabalization of all anxiety and depression within three weeks back on my meds. I take these medications because I have clinical depression and anxiety disorder and had been dx with this condition 15 years ago. I was already on disability for this years prior to this neurological attack.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've recently been changed from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 2 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I'm off work today as I'm so depressed. All I want to do is cry and lay in bed.
Avatar m tn I was also reading the papers that came with the meds and it says Paroxetine is an anti-depressant and buspirion is an anti-anxiety pill.. I think ill just take both. I hope I turn out ok. Anxiety is a serious issue. I was so outgoing, fun and really cool guy tot talk too. Now I'm always thinking before I say ANYTHING! I just hope this works.
Avatar f tn I just lay down and try to resist it and think of something else and after some time it gets normal again.I did not had this before it has just started about a week ago and happens once daily. It does not make me suffocated as to hyperventilate through mouth oxygen. It just makes me uneasy and restless that my breathing is being blocked or pressed at the moment.
Avatar f tn Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.
Avatar n tn I was having such a high level of anxiety and depression, and being that pregnancy often makes those issues worse...we decided to keep me on the Lexapro. Definitely discuss this with your OB...sooner, rather than later...that way, any needed changes can be made now, and you can adjust to a new med if you are actively trying to get pregnant. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I had a severe allergic reaction to Citalapram and was taken off and had to wait for my appointment with the psychiatrist which was a week and a half ago. He perscription for Buspirone and Paroxetine. I didn't start taking the medicine right off the bat because of fear that i was going to have another bad reaction and ended up having another attack last night. I started taking the Buspirone this afternoon and was wondering how i should take it and the Paroxetine.
Avatar f tn HI again. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Anxiety/Do-I-have-anxiety-or-asthma/show/1931761#post_9025765 The above link is the thread the other day where we discussed pretty much all of the same topics that you repeat here. I also noticed looking at your posting history that you're posting the same question in numerous communities. There's nothing wrong with that at all, it just stood out to me, kind of showing your level of anxiety about this. It kind of boils down to this...
Avatar f tn I found out i was pregnant very early in the peace, at about 2/3 weeks. I immediately stopped taking the paroxetine and as soon as i was free from the withdrawal effects of that i worked on getting off the xanax. This has proven to be very difficult! within 2 weeks i went from 3mgs of xanax to .5mgs per day. I just couldnt get down any further. My psychiatrist has kind of loosely monitored this. He just tells me to start taking .25mg a day and then after a week stop taking it altogether.
