Common Questions and Answers about Paroxetine drug

paxil

Avatar n tn have to say depends upon how long he has been on the paroxetine for and whether there is any interaction with the introduced drug and how long it takes for the new drug to build up to it's therepeutic effect. I can't remember how long for Paroxetine but remember that that was something like a couple of months. Prozac with me took something like 3 months this year although i was on a high dose and had been on it for a number of years where i steadily reduced and had consolidation weeks.
Avatar m tn I have been on Paroxetine for 10 years on and off and whenever I have a question about any medications that I can safely take I call the pharmacist and they are good about answering my guestions.Good luck!!
Avatar f tn Has anyone been perscribed Paroxetine for their neuropothy symptoms? I saw my physiatrist last week for the increasing pain I am having related to my syrinx. He advised me to check back in with my NS, and gave me a script for Cymbalta. Apparently, this anti-depressant also works on nerves. I'm definitely not a depressed person - so I had my reservations for Cymbalta, but the pharmacist re-assured me that my dr prescribed it for neuro issues.
Avatar m tn So I have been taking Paroxetine(Paxil) for 4 months now and it changed my life, took away my O.C.D. and my social anxiety. But i had side effects so i started taking Bupropion(wellbutrin) So after 1 days dose which was 1 pill twice a day, I had my O.C.D. back about half as bad and my social axiety came back about half as bad. So i stopped taking the Bupropion and i am still taking the Paroxetine but it's not working as well as it did before.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've recently been changed from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 2 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I'm off work today as I'm so depressed. All I want to do is cry and lay in bed.
Avatar n tn I have not been able to locate a drug by that name. Please double check the spelling, provise the generic name, ot describe what it is used for, and perhaps someone will be able to help. Regards...
12182312 tn?1427683956 There's a moderate interaction between those 2 drugs. From the drug interaction checker: "Using metoprolol together with PARoxetine may increase the effects of metoprolol. Contact your doctor if you experience uneven heartbeats, shortness of breath, bluish-colored fingernails, dizziness, weakness, fainting, or seizure (convulsions). If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications.
Avatar f tn The switch is not abrupt, she first reduced the dose of paroxetine and started with a low dose of the new drug for a while.
Avatar n tn My mother who is 79 years old, has severe arthritis and has dealt with anxiety for many years has been prescribed for sometime by her doctor to take 20 mg Paroxetine and 2 mg Alprazolam in the morning, 1 mg Alprazolam at lunch and 2 mg Alprazolam before bedtime. Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?
Avatar f tn I really do not want to go back up on my dose of Paxil since it has such severe withdrawal effects if I ever go off it again. Any suggestions WHICH drug out there would be a good one to switch to? I am confused by so many and my doc does not seem to have a preference...?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn m not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising. My old doctor told me Fluoxetine has very few reported side effects, and now that I'm in college and that previous doctor retired I'm unable to contact a professional about my questions. Any advice? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.
Avatar m tn I have, in fact, seen restlessness listed as a side effect of paroxetine but just have not personally known anyone before who experienced it from this drug. When you first posted about your insomnia, I just did not think of it in terms of restlessness, and I wish I had, because I would not have been as skeptical about your suspicion of paroxetine. Hopefully, things will continue to get better for you. I appreciate your keeping us posted.
1563026 tn?1295031701 It is important to justify the need to replace your current SSRI with some other drug, as Paroxetine seemed to have helped you earlier. Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn ll see new warnings not to combine tamoxifen with certain SSRIs..paroxetine, fluoxetine, and sertraline. .... Women have a higher risk of breast cancer recurrence if they take tamoxifen along with paroxetine, fluoxetine, or sertraline... but NOT citalopram, escitalopram, or fluvoxamine. .....About 30% of women on tamoxifen also take an SSRI for depression or hot flashes. FDA will add new warnings..
Avatar m tn I've been on Paxil, i.e. Paroxetine for about 6 years now. I ran out about 5 days ago. As has happened in the past after quitting Paxil my sleep is interrupted with such stressful nightmares. I mean I wake up and I am either screaming and my heart rate goes sky high. I am a about 3 days from when i can get another refill. I don't think i can make it and have so much to do this week during the day. When I call my doctors office and especially on call, they go berzerk.
190885 tn?1333025891 One of the nasty treatment side effects is insomnia. Paroxetine (Paxil) is also prescribed to help restore the sleep cycle. But it's not successful in everyone. Some people get a bit wired on the drug, and for them it's not appropriate. Others get sleepy and calmed, and for them it can be helpful. In the latter case, it's often prescribed along with a valium analogue for sleep.

486038 tn?1300063367 Everything except for the brain lesion has been documented by the drug company from the clinical trials of Paroxetine. But it does list Meningitis, Optic Neuritis, peripheral neuritis, myalgia ect..., so who's can really say if it can cause brain lesions?????????????
1326416 tn?1370927001 After six weeks, symptoms of depression decreased 57% in the group taking hyperforin-rich Hypericum and only 45% in the group taking paroxetine. Patients taking Hypericum were 42% less likely than patients taking paroxetine to experience negative side effects. The researchers concluded that, "In the treatment of moderate to severe major depression, Hypericum extract... is at least as effective as paroxetine and is better tolerated.
Avatar f tn Ive been switched from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 5 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I've went to the doctors yesterday because I feel terrible terrible - headaches, feeling incredibly depressed and crazy!
Avatar m tn i lost 55 pounds in 7 monthes now gained it back..if i start to discipline myself again will i lose this.. is this to do with the drug??
Avatar f tn I could be wrong. Does anyone else take Paroxetine (Generic for Paxil) and does it help you with the MS pains? I took Paroxetine before and switched. I think had I been on a higher dose I would have done better on it. Instead, my PCP switched me to Welbutrin (I call it Hellbutrin because it made me CRAZY!!!!!) Any of your opinions will be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
