pacemaker

Avatar n tn Thanks for your comments. We decided to put in the pacemaker and she will go to rehab later this week. I am feeling hopeful.
Avatar f tn t helping me), 2) increase the Metoprolol (which would have lots of side effects and make the pacemaker need to be used more; resulting in pacemaker surgery again since I only have one lead now since they couldn't get the second lead in the first time) or 3) ablation. I never knew of anyone who had ablation and the thought of it was extremely frightening. I go to see him again in two weeks to discuss what I would like to do.
492869 tn?1285018933 I have never heard of a pacemaker for the stomach. Please tell me more.....I'm really curious...........
Avatar f tn Light-headedness Dizziness Syncope (Fainting) The goal is to find the underlying cause. Temporary pacing has been used, but this is typically for those who are experiencing bradycardia (slow heart rate) until the cause has been addressed.
Avatar n tn I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
659608 tn?1318289366 Should a 93 year old female diagnoised with a blood clot on her heart, with the top & bottom of her heart not beating correctly, be given a pacemaker? She is in good health for her age, & never had surgery before, but getting a little demetia. What are the risks for this age, and is the cure worse than the problem? She is currently on Warfin to thin her blood. What will the quality of life be if she has this done?
Avatar n tn The frequency of the machine ranges from 2.9Hz to 50Hz....will this be harmful to the pacemaker if it is being used on her feet? I am hoping that she will be able to use this for her neuropathy and solve her pain that she has been experiencing.
Avatar n tn Or at least we are lucky that this is the case for us. Now that the pacemaker has been in for 9 days, his current cardiologist and EP doc think it happened this way: the vasculitis did a silent stealth attack on the electrical system of his heart. This cut off a small amount of blood supply through the small to medium arteries, caused the damage that initiated the bradycardia and the Mobitz II block. Most significant — we now know that he is being “paced” 30% of the time, both day and night.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for an ablation because of atrial flutter. It used to be atrial fib - have had 3 cardioversions for that and only the first one worked (for 3 weeks). Now on flecanide and toprol but is it common to have an ablation when I also have a pacemaker? It was put in last March after a fainting spell.
Avatar n tn Would ablation, pacemaker or another drug be a better option for a 77 year old man? I have been told that PVCs are originating in the left ventricle. Would ignoring them lead to more serious problems like ventricular tachcardia? My heart function is good with ejection fraction 60% to 65%, and normol exercise tolerance. My heart rate is 55 beat, however, at night it slows to mid forties.
512694 tn?1216161406 Have any of you tried Amitiza? My gastro doc wants to put me on that for my motility issues, but I don't like the side effects. Would love to hear from real people if they have taken it and their thoughts on it. I don't know of any other drugs used for motility besides Reglan, which I won't use. Thanks for any help!
1835862 tn?1318373061 Removal is not always legally possible. For example, if the atrial pacemaker is not functioning, removal of the implant could result in death. Discuss this openly with your physician. The case for implanting a pacemaker is sometimes absolutely clear-cut and in other cases more of a precautionary procedure.
Avatar n tn Need an upgraded pacemaker? Pacemaker recall? What kind and what brand of your pacemaker? Do you have the serial number? You can directly contact the producer and find out why? Mine is St Jude and implanted in 2002. Still got 3 years to go. Once stage they said all the professional needed to download a programme because it reading the battery life in error. The programme in error but NOT the pacemaker itself. http://www.medscape.
Avatar n tn His cardiologist does not recommend surgery to fix the valve (too risky) but suggested a biventricular pacemaker be considered (he currently has a pacemaker). He went for assessment and the dr at the clinic said it would not benefit him. We are running out of options. Do you know of anyone with a similar background that has had success with the biventricular pacemaker? would you recommend any other treatment? thanks.
Avatar f tn You say you did not pass out from any of the more recent episodes even though you had a long pause? A pacemaker is a big deal for sure but your heart stopping is also a big deal. When it stops blood is not getting to your brain and oxygen depravation can lead to memory loss and loss of overall brain function. How are you tolerating the pauses that aren't causing you to pass out? You do have to keep in mind that if you pass out while driving you may injure yourself or others.
Avatar f tn Not only was this in 2005, but this was for an external pacemaker which is used for a few days in the hospital. The leads are generally removed before the person leaves the hospital, but one of mine could not be removed. It is dangerous to forse it, so in a case like that they just leave it in. In any case, I am sure that even today they do not use those new special leads for a temporary external pacemaker.
Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
