Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker and mri

pacemaker

Avatar f tn Hi, you can ask all the questions you want, even if we've covered them before! We like to point people in the right direction for more discussions. Whenever I see a new name pop up here, I always click on their name and see if they are truly new or if I have forgotten them. That's how I saw you were on the thyroid forum as well. Lots of people here have multiple problems - having MS doesn't preclude us from having other things wrong too.
368646 tn?1208393887 t know would they let me have a MRI or not because I have a pacemaker. They all brushed me off with the dizziness and complaint. They told me the pacemaker will prevent any cause of faint (anti faint). Until last week, the blackout caused the lost of control while I was driving. Now they're refering me to a neurologist. Take care.
Avatar f tn t really want another MRI, worried me to death with the pacemaker in place. As it was, I could feel the leads tingle. No more, absolutely no more! (pacer was for "lazy heart" not hypertension. thanks for your thoughts!
Avatar f tn My neuro agrees and wants to get an MRI of my t and c-spine. Well, guess what..... my MRI safe pacemaker is good to go for a brain MRI, but not for anything between the cervical and thoracic areas because they have to position me differently in the machine.
Avatar f tn Interesting re the pacemaker. My mom has an older version and was to NEVER have an MRI, this is exciting it me and will share this with my Mom so she can tell her fantastic team of docs about this. Her docs are excellent and would research this themselves given just a hint of the possibilities. Sending good luck wishes and thoughts your way on the 28th. I hope all goes well.
Avatar f tn My husband had a pacemaker implanted 6 weeks ago. The doctors implanted the wrong type (not MRI compatible) and now they tell us that they are willing to replace it! How dangerous is it? The leads are more likely to have grown into the heart tissue by now. We are very afraid of this operation!
987762 tn?1671273328 The MRI The purpose of a MRI or magnetic resonance imaging machine, is to harmlessly work out what internally is physically wrong with you, without involving exploratory surgery. MRIs have 3 types: conventional, open bore and fully open. In an conventional MRI, a long toroidal (Doughnut-shaped) electromagnet supplies the electromagnetic force, and the subject is put through a long 'tunnel', where a full-body scan is supplied.
Avatar f tn My neuro is reluctant to do another and we both declared the radiologist who read it and said no signs of MRI ( I already have at least 8 lesions) and totally missed the3 new ones! I can't speak for anyone else but they will have to drag me kicking and screaming if they want another!
Avatar m tn The only electrophysiology patients ive ever seen go downhill in the procedure were pacemaker patients, not ablation patients, and they technically went downhill in the cath lab. Among these patients that went downhill during pacemaker implantation, 100% were high risk and already inpatients within the intensive care unit. None were healthy 35 year old outpatients.
Avatar m tn I have had a pacemaker for the last twelve years and have been told I don't really need it any longer. I would like to have it removed but would rather not go through the complicated procedure of having the wires removed. Is there any reason I can not just have the device removed? I have been told that if I got an infection in the pocket where the device is in having the wires in could cause the infection to spread. Also with the wires still in could I do an MRI is needed? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hi,my pacemaker was put in August 2015 and been having shooting pain in my pacemaker inserting and my shoulder and neck and hand swollen the pain stinging so bad it wake me up out my sleep and I sit up and try to sleep I went to my doctor they keep saying nerves pain tender pain I'm in pain everyday I'm getting where I don't want to eat I feel sick in the stomach from the pain dizzy
Avatar m tn Hello Doctor My wife has been implanted dual chamber pacemaker from Medtronic named EnRhythm MRI SureScan in May 2010 as she has heart disorder - Bradycardia and specific name is Sick Sinus Syndrome (SSS). She is currently in 30th week pregnancy. I need expert advice on following things: 1) Is pregnancy risky for the patient/child having pacemaker implanted for SSS? 2) What can we do to avoid/minimize the risks or what precautions should be taken before and during delivery?
Avatar f tn My grandfather is 85 years old age, having pacemaker. He has Solid and Cystic mass & extensive edema seen in right cerebral found in his brain, though not detectable clearly whether it is a tumor or brain metastases. He was diagnosed with thyroid papillary carcinoma & it was operated 10 years ago and a follow through was kept with the cancer center and he was cancer free. Now he is having a left sided midline shift of 5mm and small infarct seen in right caudate nucleus.
Avatar n tn 150 lbs and exercise regulary (5K)...Is there a downside or risk to pacemaker other than the risk of implanting (now passed) and dealing with magnets, dental work. and MRI is there ant downside? higher morbidty rate, etc? In my original question I forgot to mention when I got pacemaker I also was switched from aspirin to Coumidin. Also in my original question I meant 11PM I was taking the 25mg of Atenolol.
723800 tn?1230887234 When it came to having my second pacemaker inserted about 5yrs ago, they decided to put in a smaller pacemaker and replace the problem lead, after I recovered my chest felt better with the pacemaker not bulging out so much and everything was normal until yet again with the new lead that they had inserted was not working properly.
Avatar m tn The only rationale to this decision is that the patient is not a surgical canditate for invasive surgery and the pacemaker is only for symptom management. Of course the patient should be involved in making an informed decision. If you are a health care provider involved with this patient, you have every right to ask the cardiologist for the rationale for which he is basing his decision. You offered a great critical reflection.
Avatar f tn s done hundreds and the pacemaker rep will be there and they will turn off the pacemaker and then turn it back on later, but I am still soooooo nervous. They are only going to do a 1.5 with contrast....... Should I relax? I've scanned the internet and so many articles are so old or contradict others Anyone have this done yet?
Avatar n tn Dr. Kantor: I am 51 and have for months been experiencing what the doctor calls "chorea," treated now with clonazepam. Other symptoms that are wrosening are immense fatigue and feelings of weakness in my left arm and both legs below the knees. Because I have a pacemaker, I can't have an MRI. Tests done include a CAT scan, two EEG's and a PET scan, along with lots of blood and urine work. All "normal.
Avatar n tn I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
Avatar n tn Is the pacemaker actually working? Are the settings correct? It sounds like sounds like he may be going into a dysrhythmia and the pacemaker not kicking in, therefore causing him a lack of oxygen to brain so he passed out? He may be dropping his heart rate too low and the pacemaker not kicking in lick it should be, therefore causing him to pass out.
Avatar m tn How is cardiac microvascular disease diagnosed since typical tests only show blockages to the major arteries? This discussion is related to Pacemaker Findings.
Avatar f tn to put it mildly. Fortunately, all errands are done for a few days and I can relax and recharge myself, both mentally and physically. They even let me keep the original battery! Told them I "earned it" LOL Thanks again, it was nice going down knowing everyone was thinking of me! Hugs Sarah....good for another 7-8 yrs.......
Avatar n tn 1 beat every 3 second) and that the pacemaker lower rate limit is 60ppm (1 pulse every second) then what happens? how the heart reacts to our stimulus? if the heart make a contraction based on the pacemaker stimulus, then when the next natural contraction is supposed to be?
Avatar f tn I have a pacemaker and still have pvc's and pac's but the pacemaker is set to only let so much time go between beats so if there is too long a pause it will pick up and beat for you. Yes, they are frustrating but not dangerous at all. I also had pauses for seconds before pm and I know how scary that can be but don't worry!
