Common Questions and Answers about Overcome fear heights free

fear

Avatar n tn I have developed a fear of heights that has interfered with my ability to enjoy my favorite winter sport...snow skiing. The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing.
Avatar m tn One of the ways that people do this is by steering clear of the situations that make them anxious. If you have a fear of heights, you might drive three hours out of your way to avoid crossing a tall bridge. Or if the prospect of public speaking leaves your stomach in knots, you might skip your best friend’s wedding in order to avoid giving a toast. Aside from the inconvenience factor, the problem with avoiding your fears is that you never have the chance to overcome them.
Avatar m tn Fear of driving off the road. Fear of losing love. Fear of failure.
Avatar f tn I'm 28 years old and ever since I was a boy I had this fear of heights and staircases that lead up to buildings which have floors 2 and above, coming to the floor fear, when I'm on the 2nd floor or a floor level higher than that, if there are inverted reflections on floors and ceilings, I panic badly.
Avatar f tn The first type is beneficial and is to be encouraged. The second type is a detriment and is to be overcome. The first type of fear is fear of the Lord. This type of fear does not necessarily mean to be afraid of something. Rather, it is a reverential awe of God; a reverence for His power and glory. However, it is also a proper respect for His wrath and anger. In other words, the fear of the Lord is a total acknowledgement of all that God is, which comes through knowing Him and His attributes.

Avatar m tn 8 weeks ago I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and have been overcome with fear, guilt, anxiety, stress, and border line depression. I tested at 6 weeks and 4 days, and it came back negative (4th Generation, from what I understand pretty much conclusive). Anyhow, symptoms mean nothing as I swore I had almost every symptom. Now it's on me to trust in God and forgive myself. Trust the advice givers on this forum, repent for your sins and God will see you through.
Avatar m tn Agreed. But some of these fears can be overcome. Puppies and chicks tend to be fast moving. Find the right kind of puppy at a pound or store, and I bet his response will be different.
Avatar f tn My advice would be to gradually start exposing yourself to that fear. For instance just swimming a very short distance the first day (then monitoring how you feel) then gradually build it up from there. I think they call it exposure therapy or something. Please don't avoid swimming altogether as you will feed that fear to such an extent that you will feel anxious anytime you go near the water.
Avatar f tn So, this type of problem make an issue after some time so as soon as possible you go for the eye care specialist. I hope your problem overcome early.
454863 tn?1208306979 You fell, (or were pushed????) 7 stories and you're still here to tell us you now have a fear of heights. What is there for you to NOT GET about this phobia? You are SO incredibly lucky to be alive! I can't begin to imagine the terror you felt when you went over the railing. Your fear/phobia can be dealt with in therapy and if you don't want to be freaked out anymore, then that is really your only option.
Avatar f tn Talk this over with your parents so they can get you therapy to learn how to break free of this fear. Good luck and take care!
Avatar n tn I had a traumatic experience when I was a young child which left me with the fear of uncontrolled bleeding. I have attempted to overcome this fear through therapy and work in medical and dental offices. However, it returns to paralyze me at times. I need a molar extracted due to an abcess and the fear of bleeding has returned. I have had extractions in the past and obviously I survived but the anxiety continues to be huge.
Avatar m tn Just curious if you eventually had the crowns re-worked? I've had a worsening fear of heights whereas I could climb up a ladder 10 years ago...it's gotten to a point now that I can no longer transition from the ladder to the roof. I've gotten crowns in between that time, and while I doubt it's connected, your comments got me wondering.
Avatar n tn Suppose your heart rhythm is caused by the anxiety...It's a vicious cycle. If you were to go into a CBT program to overcome these fears, they would have you do exactly what you just did, face things that give you fear little by little. Very soon you won't be fearful of it, as long as you keep immersing yourself to higher and higher levels. It's called "intensive exposure". I've overcome phobias through intensive exposure.
583178 tn?1219071463 t want that fear anymore, than you need to confront it. You need to meet the fear of heights and not run. That's step one. Sure, there will be setbacks. However, keep trying. Eventually, the final step is to submerse yourself (in this case go to the highest point in the world) and just allow yourself to do it. Be with the fear. Allow it to wash over you. Once you surface, you will feel less fear the next time and so on. That's the same thing with anxiety.
2183887 tn?1338721728 I understand, although I don't fear crowded spaces, or the toilet. I am absolutely terrified of heights and bees. I cant stand being to high off the ground or i start to hyperventilate. And when there's a bee near, I either run away screaming or start to shake with fear. But what I do is try to convince myself that I'm not going to die, an I try to regulate my breathing. That's what I suggest to you. Better yet, you should go see your doctor, and see what they have to say.
Avatar m tn See a Dr, we can't diagnosis you.
1257523 tn?1269570177 Some phobias make sense, to a degree. The dictionary defines a phobia as an "irritional fear." Fear of snakes, spiders and other creepy crawly things.....millions of us have this one! Fear of heights.........who hasn't stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon or a tall building and gotten that sense of vertigo that may cause us to pitch off the edege? Fear of flying.........hers's a biggie. It combines a fear of heights, claustraphobia and being totally out of control.
Avatar f tn All I could do was laugh hysterically when I went to a haunted type attraction in London a few months ago so no adverse effects there, apart from feeling like a looney.
Avatar f tn Many have found becoming a phone patient of Westover Heights Clinic a good way Og obtaining the WB test to overcome ignorant doctors.
Avatar n tn This is one of the best sites for help with anxiety that I've seen, and there's not too much else I can say that others haven't already. Just know that's a very common thing to have fears of certain things. For me, it's not a fear of being closed in that bothers me, it's the opposite. I'm TOTALLY freaked out with heights. But I agree with Angie. Show your parents this website, and how people have been responding to your post.
Avatar m tn I get this too, but it's because my anxiety includes fear of heights. So it could be that.
1390847 tn?1344657468 I have learned that facing your fear is the best way to overcome it, you'll learn that the only thing to really fear about vomiting is the fear itself. I can only base this on my own experiences. Before I had children I had a horrible fear of seeing someone after they've fallen and hit their head and I would run the other way. I had my first child and he fell on the side walk and my first instinct was to run but this was my little boy and his well being meant more to me than my fear.
