Dee unfortunately you are incorrect...again. Opana ER is a stronger medication but it has to be given in equivalent dosing to the percocet that the poster was taking 5 times a day.
5 times a day*5 mg of oxycodone = 25 mg of oxycodone
Next, convert oxycodone to equivalent dose of Opana ER = 25 mg/2 = 12.5 mg of Opana ER.
Hello i think you have a very high tolerance to pain meds and i think you will do fine taking the opana er, as long as you do not take more than your told to take,i don't think it's gonna knock you out or anything,and you can continue to function as a wife and mother,it's sorta like methadone,it can be fatal if abused,it is also an extended relielf med.
You may not necessarily need a higher dose, sometimes a change in medication can do the trick and rotate every year or so, that can help keep your tolerance down a bit. As for Opana, it will either work great for you or not at all. It's bio-availability is only around 10-15% so it really just depends. But, like I said, some people respond really well to it and some don't. Its worth a shot if you have insurance, it is really expensive, even the new generic is expensive. Good luck to you!
I am currently taking Opana ER 30mg /2 TID for long term spinal pain due to breaks and fusions. I am going to try replacing that for a short time with a Fentanyl Patch to see if I have any improvement in Pain Mgmt. I am just wondering what regimen I should use to safely do this. For example. Is it as easy as waiting 12 hrs. after my last Opana ER and then apply the patch (it's a 3 day patch) then take another ER once the 3 days has expired?
My fiancee' was recently prescribed Opana ER, when he started three weeks ago he was on 5mg twice daily, then the doctor moved him to 10mg 2xdaily, now it is 20mg 2x daily. I am very concerned?
A quick history:
-Migraines that were unusually resistant to standard treatments until the age of 18
-At 18 my neurologist increases my Valporic Acid dose to 4000mg/day
-ER neglected to perform any tests except for a spinal tap (no bacteria, just the worst headache of my life)
-Spinal tap pain is supposed to subside, but I am discharged with constant head pain and simply don't feel right
-I see a psychiatrist to address my mental status's acute change
-It turns out I have a traumatic bra
t know how many 5/325 mg Percocets you were taking a day before switching to the Opana ER 5 mg, but to have equivalent pain relief from the Opana ER, you had to have taken only 2 Percocets a day. If you were taking more than 2 Percocets a day then the switch to Opana ER 5 mg was a step down in terms of pain relieving strength.
I have been taking Opana ER 30mg. 3 times a day for several months. My doctor has moved to Alaska and gave me 3 months of prescriptions while I find another doctor. When I dropped off the 2nd prescription the pharmacy told me they have ordered Opana several times over the last month and the order has not come. I called every pharmacy in my town and they said the same thing. Tapering is out of the question, so I guess its time for me to stop taking it, and it will have to be cold turkey.
I do trust my doctor and he is a very reputable physician that has been featured on the local news in our state but despite this, he did not apply a cross tolerance at all when he switched me from morphine ER to opana ER (you may remember responding to my post on this subject awhile back). In fact, it was even more medicine than I was already taking in both morphine ER and breakthrough pain medicine in the two 30 mg opana ER pills I take per day.
